The speed with which a prosecutor acts varies.

There's the Sim Gill urgency and then there's the Kim Foxx. Utah County has already said they are overworked and are pushing off cases.

The politics of gun control enters in, as does the race of Sorensen.

The facts of the case, if substantiated, are quite clear.
    The Good Sam gave warning.
The woman fled to stand behind the Goo Sam.
    Sorensen continued to advance.

The availability of witnesses wasn't clear from the article.

There is a long-standing common law doctrine as well: Never look in a woman's purse.

I hope Leavitt moves quickly to clear this man of wrongdoing.

Good job Mr. Taylor. Thank goodness he was ready and able to assist. If more responsible citizens were armed, maybe we could stem the rising tide of violence. Thank you to the family for not crying racism or police brutality as so many do without knowing the facts. I am sorry for your loss. I am sorry your son acted the way he did. I pray for the woman.

Concealed weapon permits are essential to public safety. I would hate to shoot somebody but the girl may have been permanently brain damaged if the neighbor didn't have a concealed weapons permit.

What a thoughtful, classy response by this family. All my respect and condolences to this family who must be suffering because of the mistakes of their loved one.

Still waiting for the name of the shooter. Why is law enforcement protecting his identity?

By my count, this is story #5 about this case.

This one left out a previous assault by Sorensen that involved co-workers, police officers and hospital staff...all claim to be victims of his aggressive behavior.

It's fine for the family to claim he was a gentle soul, but let's see some balance in the reporting.

I'm impressed with the family. They are not mindlessly demanding that the shooter be arrested as happens in other similar situations.

There can be some big downsides to beating women.
