    Vermonter: Who is the aggressor when the US has military essentially surround Iran?
    Does Iran have the right to defend itself? Is it a sovereign nation?
    If some aggressive nation had their military right off the US coast would you support the US defending itself?
    The US not invading Iran is NOT isolationistic.

    I would like to second Ralph’s comment to Vermonter.

    “If you wouldn't mind, please comment on the influence that Saudi Arabia and Isreal have over our White House, regarding our middle east foreign policy.”

    Am I wrong in thinking they would like nothing less than to see us fight Iran for them.

    Impartial7: “In case you haven't been paying attention, or just ignoring reality, WE are no longer part of the international community. Trump has alienated all of our 70+ year old allies.”

    Which of our “70+ year old allies” no longer considers us an ally because of Trump? More NATO allies are paying their fair share of the costs than they have in a long time – easing the burden on the US. Mexico is doing more to help us with illegal immigration than ever before. Both Canada and Mexico have signed a trade agreement (USMCA) that helps the USA way more than NAFTA. Where are these allies that have done so much for us in the past but are now thumbing their noses at us? Please name these countries that have be clutch for us in the past, but are no longer willing because of Trump.

    @ETB.
    You’re comment is a throwback to 1940 and isolationists who said we shouldn’t get involved unless one of the 48 states was attacked. I’m not saying you’re wrong. But, America kind of made a decision back then. Was it right or wrong? I don’t know.

    Thanks for the comment.

    Does Iran have warships and drones right on the US coast? When that happens we can blame them for being the aggressor.

    As long as it is the US with warships and drones at the Iranian border, we can not blame Iran for being the aggressor.

    scrappy do : "how many appeasement cowards are on the left anyway??"

    --Well, let's see... this one time I used my wealthy family's connections to get me out of going to the Vietnam War (I pretended I had bone spurs).

    "I love liberals all over the news saying that Iran is truthful when they say the drone was well within their air space"

    --Iran may or may not be truthful, but we can bet the farm that Trump is fabricating, no matter what he has to say on the matter. None of our traditional allies trust him or his administration in this matter at all.

    My prediction is that Trump will do nothing militarily in response to the drone. This just adds another strike in turning the international community against them and tightening the sanctions. "

    In case you haven't been paying attention, or just ignoring reality, WE are no longer part of the international community. Trump has alienated all of our 70+ year old allies. He's ignored all their input. He can't call for help now, their phones are off the hook.

    And with every passing day their economy continues its death spiral. The Central Bank is draining foreign reserves; there are shortages of food and basic medicine, inflation hit 40 percent earlier this year, consumer prices went up by 40 to 60 percent and the waivers for oil exports have now expired which will drive them close to zero.

    @Happy Valley.
    You make some good points. I think you understand the Iranian perspective quite well. And it is important to understand their perspective.

    Perhaps it is time for the US to apologize to Iran and leave the Persian Gulf. It might be that the US is no longer an adequate match for the Iranian Military.

    But, I don’t think even Jimmy Carter would endorse that strategy.

    As always, thanks for the dialogue.

    @Ralph.
    Uh, yes. An attack would be morally justified. But, not an all-out attack.

    The Iranian Military uses speed boats and mines to attack military and non-military ships. Additionally, they are the largest state-sponsor of global terrorism.

    An appropriate response would be to sink the Iranian Navy as Reagan did in the 80s. Additionally, shutting down Iran’s oil refineries would be appropriate. These well-measured actions would largely take away Iran’s ability to put innocent lives in danger outside of Iran. And that is the morally responsible thing to do.

    As an aside, most Iranians in America will quietly tell you that the Iranian Government is quite oppressive and the country is a mess. Most of them would actually be in very much in favor of an overthrow of the current hard-line Islamic Iranian regime.

    Vermonter said: @Happy Valley. To answer your question. It isn’t drones. But, Russian Military Aircraft have frequently flown close to US airspace in Alaska for the past 20+ years. "

    Yes and completely different, how does once escort a drone, what channel to you call them up on?

    On a side note remember the RQ-170 incident, when Iran took control of one of our drones landed it, studied it, probably disassembled the whole thing and copied it, then returned it to America?

    They are within there rights if we violated their airspace, and America has been less then honest in the past about "airspace" disputes.

    Vermonter or any other Trump suporter, please comment on the wisdom of attacking Iran, a middle eastern country of 81 million people. If you wouldn't mind, please comment on it's strategic position and the influence that Saudi Arabia and Isreal have over our White House, regarding our middle east foreign policy. Do you support an all out attack of Iran, or do you think it would be foolish?

    Would it be morally justified?

    Just curious, thanks!

    To answer your question. It isn’t drones. But, Russian Military Aircraft have frequently flown close to US airspace in Alaska for the past 20+ years.

    The US usually escorts Russian Aircraft back towards Russia and reminds Russia through diplomatic channels to keep their military aircraft clear.

    @Hutterite.
    I think you are right that this is getting stupid. But, Iran’s government and military is putting people’s lives needlessly in danger. Perhaps its time to help them correct course.

    If another country was buzzing our coast with drones in questionable proximity, what would we do?

    ...and we only have an acting secretary of defense, who wants out.
