There is a Catholic Church somewhere in the neighborhood near the Oakland
Temple, but the Church right next door to the Temple, that shares a
common fence to the Temple, is a Greek Orthodox Church.I, too,
had a chance to visit there at the Oakland Temple during the recent open house.
Great Experience!!God Bless!!
Congrats to Elder Bednar for being such an amazing man and having the
opportunity of coming home etc. but I wish these articles about new temples put
the spotlight on the Lord and His gospel instead of on the men who go there to
perform the dedication.
In the mid '60s I frequently attended the Oakland Temple while I was in the
army stationed in the Bay Area. I have good memories of those temple sessions.
Because of the worldly atmosphere throughout much of the area it was a spiritual
lift for me to go to the temple on the hill whenever I could. About three weeks
ago my wife and I were in Oakland visiting family and we attended the open
house. It was a thrill to visit again and feel that the aura of the temple is
still a beautiful and uplifting spiritual experience. It isn't just the
visually impressive architecture of the building but also the feeling of the
love and concern of our Heavenly Father which radiates from the temple's
place on the hill. There is a beautiful Catholic church next to the temple and
the two buildings compliment each other and are a spiritual reminder that God
loves his children in the Bay Area.
