what the article fails to take into account is, for instance, EVERY team passed up on Manu Ginobili at least once if not twice. Also, Klay Thompson was on the end of the bench for a while. It may have been he only found confidence to succeed because of the system he was in with Curry. You never know if a guy is going to succeed in your system only to become an all star in another (Stockton might never have become who he was had he not had Malone and Sloan). Derron was an all star under Sloan but nothing basically under everyone else.

If we are going to do the coulda would shoulda, Portland who with the 1st pick in 2007 got Greg Oden who was MVP, all star, Champion... oh wait wrong player... OKC got Durant at 2 in 2007...
Heck they could have gotten all 3 of the following: Durant, (Aaron Brooks,Glen Davis or Afflalo), and Marc Gasol that same year. Instead they got no names.

Yawn. . .would'a, could'a, should'a. He gets paid for this frothy fantasy stuff. Readers who can't deal with reality read this stuff and think this is insightful journalism. Living in the past and in fantasy land. . .

Brad, good article. If they are shooting for future talent, they ought to look at Bol Bol. He's an athletic freak, a good one. 7'2" and can play. shoots 51% from the 3. Can play defense, and has a great all around game, and with the way the Jazz develop players, he's a real diamond in the rough. They may have to trade up a few spots to get him, but if they pass they are going to regret it.

Based on the way the Jazz picks, it's all guess-work. It has been in the past and it will be now as well. Carsen Edwards will be as bad a pick this year as Trey Burke was just a few years back. The Jazz, however, never learn from their mistakes.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a wonderful Christmas, Brad.

Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda sounds like picking great stocks in the market! I guess that is why some teams win championships and others shoulda, and coulda!

The biggest bust was Luther Wright. I recall Frank Layden saying on the radio "We didn't know; we aren't 'Boys Town'" But it sure looked like they were snookered on that pick. Either that or they just don't know how to pick out talent. That seems a better explanation with the exception of Stockton and Malone, which I guess every team gets a break occasionally.

Interesting that the jimmer haters spend more time talking about him than his supporters, thusly he will never die.

Kawhi refused to work out for the Jazz in 2011 which was the reason the Jazz passed on him according to what I remember hearing from David Locke. They could’ve had both Rudy and Giannis in 2014 if they did trade up for a player not even in the league now.

Well earlier in the week, a BYU bright booster who consistently makes super intelligent comments (nearly every hour) at the Desert News, stated that the Jazz should be glad they didn't draft Kawhi Leonard, after all, the universe has gifted all of us the all mighty unstoppable power house China league player, known as "the jimmer," who apparently put up 50 points a game on Kawhi back in his college days, therefore implying Leonard is not a good player. Yes, that is some really great logic, hence why Kawhi has two NBA Championship rings, while the defenseless Jimmy boy can't land a gig in the NBA nor will he ever play for an NBA Championship title. Congrats to Leonard and those San Diego State fans who have some redemption now, after having to watch the annoying one trick pony show that Mr. Forget Fredette mastered at the circus and then took the globetrotter show on the road.

The Lakers buy talent because they can't develop it. The Jazz are much better at developing talent, but have a hard time holding on to it when the big market teams come calling. Personally, I wouldn't have Davis on my team if yo gave him to me for free, because no team can survive the type of drama he brings to the game.

    Wow, 2011 really hurts.
