Officials did agree to expand the 'Remain in Mexico' program. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, says he floated a similar plan with Mexican officials last year.

Look at who are telling the lies (and exaggerations): the liberal left.

This is a great tactical move by Trump. He cuts out the Republican RINOs like Mitt, and the anti-American Dems in the congress.

Trump is Making America Great Again!

I sure hope he has a "secret" deal. It is obvious that the Democrats currently serving are not going to do anything that protects American citizens from the invasion taking place on our Southern border.

Sad point in our otherwise noble history. (mostly "noble).

A "Safe Country" agreement would be a huge, huge win.

Let's see if Mexico will do it. They need to stop the human traffickers, as they are destroying their country as well.

So far, Mexican officials are taking actual measures. This contrasts with years and years where they have given lip service, then turned around and enabled the drug cartels to smuggle people across the border.

I will take action over words any day.

    @Herbert Gravy,

When Clinton made the deplorables remark she listed the beliefs that were prevalent among *a fraction* of Trump's support: those who are racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, etc. If you're proud to be deplorable, which of those titles are you appropriating?

Trump's got a lot of secret deals. Just none that he wants the public (or the FBI) to know about. And no deals, secret or otherwise that are beneficial to America.

    @10CC

Oh, yes perhaps there are "more pressing issues" the President MIGHT be working on.

Does the same apply to Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats in the House of Representatives including Jerry Nadler, Maxine Waters and many others?

They spend their time trying to find "secret deals" instead of fixing our broken immigration system, etc., etc.

For Trump, there doesn't need to be a secret deal with Mexico, just getting some folks here and there talking like he does serves the purpose very nicely. That auspicious aura of dark mystery is its own power trip.

Headline: "Does President Trump have a secret deal with Mexico?"

    Really?

    Let's stop indulging this guy.

Otherwise tomorrow's headlines might as well be:

"Does President Trump have a secret decoder ring he got in a cereal box?"

"Does President Trump have a secret clubhouse in the Oval Office his staff helped him build from cardboard boxes?"

"Does President Trump have a secret handshake he uses with leaders of America's adversaries?"

Just as many American voters want immigration reform from our political leaders, Mexico's voters want specific things from their leaders. I believe, if I am not mistaken, that engaging with Trump in border and immigration agreements that Trump wants would be politically opposed by Mexican voters. In such a case, any secret agreement would make Mexico's political leaders look suspect by its voters, and perhaps undermine an agreement, if there were one.

So either Trump is claiming an agreement that is not actually there, or he is undermining Mexican political leaders too early in the process, or maybe something else is going one that is not apparent yet. However, I suspect it would be better if Trump was acting more in coordination with Mexico.

Let's suppose there really is a secret agreement.

Why does our President feel compelled to let everyone know about the secret deal, this childlike fixation with being "right"?

Aren't there more pressing issues a President is supposed to be working on & thinking about? Won't the great secret deal bring acclaim when it no longer is a secret?

It's like a grade school kid spending his homework time trying to convince his parents he actually got a "B+" on a spelling quiz, instead of a "B".

"Don't you have other homework, Donald?"

    Sheesh.

Donald Trump did this old flim-flam before. He held a news conference with stacks of documents in manila folders on stage and said it was all real information. However, no one was allowed to look at the stacks of paper and we were left wondering what was there beyond what Trump said was there. But it came out later that it was all fake.

This is all reminiscent of Joe McCarthy holding up some papers supposedly listing communists in the State Department which he used to great effect in leading one of the most disgusting attacks on American rights we had seen beyond such insidious acts that have stained our history.

Now Trump holds up a paper, refusing to let anyone see it, and tells us it's a copy of the secret agreement he has made with the Mexican government. However, the Mexican government says there is no secret agreement. Why would it be secret if it was a a fair and honest agreement between the two countries? The only thing to come to mind that it is "secret" only in Trump's head and exists only there.

This seems to go along with Trump's requiring his aides to lie about internal poll numbers carried out about his campaign showing him losing in 17 critical states.

    Don't worry Mr. trump.

You told your base to not believe anything they read or heard or saw with their own eyes.

The base will always be there for you.

However, your words and actions seem to Americans to be more frantic and emotional and unhinged everyday.

You are acting like a man who is guilty.

Walking around waving a piece of paper promising that the paper documents some secret agreement is simply pathetic.

However, as you continue to preach to the base your actions speak louder than words to Americans who no longer believe whay you say about anything...let alone some secrets on some piece of paper.
