Meanwhile, according to ESPN, Arizona, USC and Oregon are under investigation and likely to see sanctions. With these teams depleted, and if Utah somehow escapes scrutiny, maybe Coach K will see enough victories that his average salary per win will drop below $199k

One thing Rock doesn’t have to worry about: Frank Layden, or anyone else, stealing his jokes.

It is funny, however, that Majereus got run out of town for NCAA violations and Kuzma took money at the U, and Ute fans are pointing fingers. Oh, wait. Not funny, typical.

The NCAA doesn't care about coaches paying players. If it did, Sean Miller wouldn't be coaching at Arizona right now.

    -----

They do care about BYU boosters paying players. BYU gave Rose a contract extension for cheating.

Stay in your lane coach. That wasn't funny and it's a stretch to call it sarcasm. I don't see how that would make a young player want to come play for him.

Anything you say can be used against you in a court of NCAA. I like his humor--but there those humorless folks can do some pretty rash things like erase seasons apparently.

Coach Pope is funny in the way that Rock is funny. Make of that what you will.

Thank you for your input Ute fans. Now you and your basketball program can go back to being irrelevant.

    Great comedy timing!

Isn’t BYU-P still appealing the NCAA sanctions?

I don't find it one bit funny. I think he needs to show a wee bit more professional maturity.

I’m buckled over, I’m laughing so hard.

    Go coogs!

Pope's sarcasm shows an underlying disdain for those who truly are that crooked. They are so stupid, it's actually funny, if it weren't so sad. Even if you don't care about the ethics, cheating is just bad business, but he knows some don't get that and so he's poking fun at the mindset.

For those who are missing the humor gene, as well as those who love to "pounce" (on whatever they think they can turn against someone), lighten up.

"The NCAA doesn't care about coaches paying players. If it did, Sean Miller wouldn't be coaching at Arizona right now."

But the NCAA does care about coaches paying players at mid-major and low-major schools. So Pope really does need to be careful.

Rose wasn't exactly forced out by the NCAA. So you must right.

Oh Rock. Time to rock on to more traditional journalism.

I'm not a fan of his sarcasm. Saying with a straight face Gonzaga is way overrated has made me so skeptical of his lack of media tact. This story is yet another example of that.
