Utah-Hawaii Alum@ Lone Star - When BYu's owners decide that
they will not float BYu D1 sports any longer, will you act like a gentleman and
realize that the "gig is FINALLY up?"Are you even capable of
acting like a gentleman? It's hilarious how you're forced
to desperately make stuff up to soothe your BYU-hating angst.BYU
building a new basketball practice facility, adding state-of-the-art WIFI
to LES and the Marriott Center, making many other enhancements to LES, scheduling football games well into the next decade, and endowing more
than half of BYU's athletic scholarships vehemently contradicts
your made up fantasy of the imminent cancelling of BYU's athletic
program.Go peddle your snake oil somewhere else; nobody is buying it
@ Lone Star,When BYu's owners decide that they will not float
BYu D1 sports any longer, will you act like a gentleman and realize that the
"gig is FINALLY up?" I sure hope so, and I also "hope" that you
can find happiness and peace someday.
Utah-Hawaii Alum" let me rephrase my claim?....... Utah has
beaten BYu hoops the last 3/5 times they played."You're
struggling with your depth perception here, so let me help.Utah has
LOST to BYU hoops the last 13/17 times they've played.BYU has
owned Utah since the last remnants of the Majerus era (Bogut) left Utah.Despite being one of the most overpaid college coaches on the planet,80k is no Majerus. There now, the picture is much clearer.
@ Factsckucked,U are correct sir! Utah dropped BYu in 2016 due to
poor sportsmanship and dirty play.If U would be so angelic to let me
rephrase my claim?....... Utah has beaten BYu hoops the last 3/5 times they
played. Does that work for U now? I hope so, saint.
Utah-Hawaii"Utah has beaten BYu 3/5 years"Utah
hasn't beaten BYU in basketball since December 2nd, 2015!

@ Skywalker,Utah has beaten BYu 3/5 years and averaged higher

How about the rest of the team? How is his bond with Nick Emery? A field trip
to Harry Potter land would build some much needed camaraderie.
ut-HAW seems to be having trouble remembering that it’s BYU who has
dominated Utah for most of the last decade and a half.
@Utah-Hawaii Alum:The way you talk you'd think that this BYU
team will be fodder for the Utah basketball team. Well we already know how that
matchup has gone right? So just keep flapping your Ute lips and see if that
bold talk can increase the chances for a win by the boys in red. So far you
haven't convinced many fans besides yourself I'd say.
Can not wait to attend the Maui Classic this year and watch some big time
programs compete with the Y ! This is going to be a great year for BYU
It's early yet and the season hasn't even started, but I'll tell
you what, I am getting very excited! There is just such a new and much more
elevated vision and attitude now with this new coaching staff. It's
starting to rub off on the players I think and it's that kind of chemistry
that has the potential to attain something special.
Coach Pope did incredible things for and with Noah Hartsock and Brandon Davies.
No doubt Child’s will develop significantly under Popes direction. I
don’t expect a conference championship or an ncaa invite but I really like
the energy around the basketball program.
he definitely has the physical tools to be a DPOY in the WCC, (7'3"
wingspan, nearly 40" vertical), he just needs to match those tools up with
some defensive intelligence, grit, determination and effort. He'll get out
of it what he puts into it and it will only help his chances at the next level
(where ever that ends up).So excited to have him back, it has my
appetite piqued for next bball season.
I think we all knew that Rose was 'burned out," his heart and passion
didn't seem to be in it the last few years. That could be a HUGE reason for
the Y's seriously inconsistent play (remember the Weber and San Diego
games). Pope has the passion, the fire and the heart. Coaching at the college
level is everything and players respond to an upbeat, demanding and encouraging
coach. I think we will see a much more united, consistent and focused team this
year. Hoping for big things.
Uh, back to the article and away from some of the moronic vitriol expressed
above... I took it for granted that Yoeli was leaving BYU even before last
season began. Kudos to Pope for "recruiting" Yo back to the team for
his senior season when it looked like he had almost no chance of doing so. Lots
of people have opined that Rose was a mediocre coach of Bigs. Maybe there is
something to that based on Childs' comments about Pope's coaching
And so the summer talk of optimism and childish hate begin. It sure would be a
lot more fun if there weren't so many spoil sports claiming to be fans!
@ CF Miles,I love following BYu these days big hitter............It
is like watching Maury or Geraldo.
Gotta love Yo and his character on and off the court. So happy to see him back
in school, not just because he’ll be a major force on the court, but
because he’ll have another year of academic progress and development that
will pay life dividends in the long run. The article used the word
“special” numerous times, and that’s how I think of him.
I’ve watched him interact with little kids and adults alike, each wanting
an autograph or a hand shake. He just gets it. Always gracious and
accommodating. He’s a fierce, tough competitor, who hates to lose, but
knows what’s most important in life. Wish he was a Ute!
I think Childs has been brilliant. He declared for the draft which got him in
contact with agents and scouts and others in workouts who could assess his NBA
readiness. Seems like he was coming up short but the NBA can give some brutal
assesments of what he needs to improve to up his NBA draft status. The new
coaching staff at BYU is heavy with former frontcourt players. I think Childs
has confidence that they can coach him up. I was not a Childs fan last year as
it seemed that he was just playing out the year with not a lot of dynamic
energy. I think if he comes in with an infectious and aggressive energy, he
could elevate all the other players. I look forward to the coming season and
the very real possibilities.
Utah-Hawaii Alum..........Why are you hiding behind the fact that you are a huge
BYU fan? You can't fool me. You love the Cougars and watch every sport
they offer on BYU-TV. I know it's hard to admit you are a homer and love
the Cougars due to their losing ways. But come on man, just admit you would
follow them to the end of time.
@ UoU 1991 - "Wow, the inane, childish comments never end. It's good that he only represents a very tiny portion of an
otherwise great fanbase."It's telling that he knew exactly
who you were talking about without even mentioning him by name or quoting
anything he said.Fortunately he does only represent a very tiny
portion of a great fanbase.

Wow, someone's true colors are really showing and they're not
pretty.I'd be embarrassed to be a Ute fan and have to claim
that as my own.
Utah-Hawaii Alum"Since when has your tribal culture NOT

@ Skywalker.Yeah, we Utes also heard about "Sheriff Sitake"
and the "Kalani effect" too........how is that work'n for "you
people" these days.....not good in fact. I remember that slogan y'all
threatened Utah with......."Be afraid, VERY AFRAID!"
Very good positive story. Nice to hear that the coaches and players
are working right up to the midnight curfew. Dont want to get reported for
being outside their homes/apts past midnight.
Wow, the inane, childish comments never end. It's good that he
only represents a very tiny portion of an otherwise great fanbase.---I think Pope is going to be a great basketball coach for BYU
and Utah fans have every reason to be concerned that BYU's dominance over
the runnin' Utes will continue.
I hope they can help Yoeli be even better on D, and I'm confident they can
unlock the skills he'll need as long as he has the ability and talent to do
so.I'm also very interested to see what they can do to help
Baxter hone his skills.
Pope is assembling the pieces of a very good team next season. Our
BYU-obsessed little friend from the molehill should be scared.Safety
Utah-Hawaii Alum"Is that going to help an inferior player play
defense when they are so slow that they have no other choice but to foul or eat
the bucket?"You're just sore that Yoeli and BYU have never
won a game versus Utah...by less than double digits.Childs owns U!
I have one important question for Y fans that frequent the BYu
Creamery..............now that coach Dave Rose's infamous
"Sneakerdoodle" ice cream has been stricken from the menu........"Will BYu Creamery fans, all Y fans as well, now favor the new
flavor ice cream now available....."The Pope's Sainthood?" Or, will
they opt for the newfangled BYu football ice cream offering........"Bubble
Yoeli's return is significant and along with the other changes in
personnel, including the coaching staff, increases BYU's chances for an
NCAA bid. How long they hang around in the tournament is a different
question. What interests me more is next year and beyond. If you can
move Harward to the 5, have Baxter at 4, rotate Wyatt at the 3 and 4, Harward
the same, and put troublemakers with quicks at the 1 and 2, with a bench to
boot, you may really have something. What is the most telling and
interests me most is the recruiting for 20-21, with Pope having one year to show
his stuff. He'll lose Yo, Haws, Toolson, Nixon, Seljas and Emery. Can
Pope reel in this Wasatch kid who hails from Mali? Shoes to fill, scholarships
to use and questions to answer.Go Cougs.
Utah-Hawaii AlumAs it stands today, Pope is a BYU-obsessed Utah
fan’s worst nightmare, a consummate professional who surpassed 80k while
he was working with UVU resources, who is now rebuilding a BYU basketball
program that will continue to dominate Utah for decades to come. It’s absolutely hysterical that you’re sarcastically mocking the
bonding of BYU players and coaches.
More u fans melting down. Great day again for BYU and the DN website hits.
So, Pope and Childs are "bonding" allegedly?????Is that
going to help an inferior player play defense when they are so slow that they
have no other choice but to foul or eat the bucket?NOTTA!
Yoeli coming back to BYU is the best news to happen to the team since, Yoeli
coming back to the team last year. Go Coogs!
Sounds like a conference championship and a sweet 16 NCAA tournament. Would
that qualify as "special" for BYU?
I'm so glad "bonding" is happening again at BYu, like their annual
"leadership" claims......same rhetoric, same results, same excuses, same
hope for next season is the fact.I mean really....... Yoeli Childs
may get a 2-3 year deal for tiny coin in China next year? "May" is the
operative word.As it stands today......there are no potential pro
players on BYu's 2019-20 roster.
Hope so. Hope so, so much.
