Your article was very well researched and informative. Sadly, it failed to address the myriad problems that this move will cause. The loss of downtown resources such as transportation, employment opportunities, medical support, addiction treatment facilities and food bank access will compound the problem, not solve it. The current shelter is completely filled almost every single night, and the new shelters do away with 300 beds. Where will those 300+ people go? Also, over 57,000 people moved to Utah just last year, most of them to the Wasatch front area. A certain percentage of those people will inevitably become homeless. Where will those people go? Last year, they buried an appalling 122 homeless people. I firmly believe that we will easily eclipse that number in a single winter this year. You may ask with what authority I speak on these matters, a valid question. The truth is, you see, I'm homeless veteran myself.
