Human beings have been downgraded by 'technology' that plays to our worst instincts, says a group advocating for 'humane technology.'

I just laugh so hard I about fall out of my chair. Humane technology. Now that is a joke. There is no humanity in creations of computers and social manipulation. Technology was meant to be a tool in a very big tool box to help man achieve his full potential. Now we have killer robots being experimented with by our military. Forget teaching kids humanity. Now it is easy to log into social media and live a holographic life. Not the hard work, blood, sweat and tears type of life those of us who lived through history worked hard for to only see it shredded by social manipulation on a computer screen. Now it is easier to slit one's wrist to escape the technological horrors of the hive mind on social media. Back in the day surfing the web used to be fun, safe, and really really cool. Now we get search suggestions from paid advertisers telling us where to go, where to eat, and where to sleep. Where technology and money join hands, a sickening evil lurks not far behind. And as long as there are Facebook, snapchat, YouTube, and google, your free will will be surrendered just so you can hit the like button.

This is just rubbish. The end of humanity doesn't hinge on some social media or technology. What a clever ploy to make money.

For about a decade or two I've been thinking the species Homo sapiens is like a cancer on Earth. I don't claim to have the answer.

William Cowper, "The Progress of Error," c.1780:

460 How shall I speak thee, or thy pow'r address,
461 Thou God of our idolatry, the press?
462 By thee, religion, liberty and laws
463 Exert their influence, and advance their cause,
464 By thee, worse plagues than Pharaoh's land befel,
465 Diffus'd, make earth the vestibule of hell:
466 Thou fountain, at which drink the good and wise,
467 Thou ever-bubbling spring of endless lies,
468 Like Eden's dread probationary tree,
469 Knowledge of good and evil is from thee.

And very few people fill the press with nonsense like the thoroughly discredited, Bill McKibben, yet DN eats it up uncritically, when it could be doing its job educating the public. --AGF

The worst thing we can do for our children is give them cell phones. As a teacher of 13-14 year old kids I see every day how harmful these devices are. Parents please, please, please do not subject your children to the horrors of the internet 24/7, 365.

"Free" does mean that you are the product.
But Bill McKibben? I'm sure he does have a solution, it's the same as his solution to climate change. Turn control of your life over to him. Yes, you'll have to make sacrifices but his climate model says disaster is looming and YOU need to change. Western free trade is evil and control, by the right people, is necessary.

Mankind was never meant to be able to comprehend the cacaphony of conflicting ideas thrust upon us by the printing press. Then, the horseless carriage made it possible to hurtle through space at nearly Godlike velocities! A person can be in New York one minute and be seen later in Boston on the same morning! Blacksmiths are being put out of work in favor of those who serve smoke-belching "iron horses". Humanity's end is in sight!
