A fee may not be a bad idea. The undocumented could use some of the estimated $5,000 each gets in government handouts/subsidies when they cross the southern border.

We are spending billions at the border. American should donate more to churches and non-profits who are trying to help them. We shouldn't keep hitting up the taxpayers for billions more to care for all the people fleeing oppressed gov'ts. We are our brothers keeper but not at the expense of leaving millions of our own citizens without affordable housing, health care, education, and child care. There is something wrong with trying to provide it for people in our country illegally or hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers when we don't even ensure that for our own citizens. You can only tax people so much before you push more of them into poverty.

" . . . real leadership: doing right things and doing right things the right way!"

Do you really think charging a fee to file for asylum in the United States is the right thing? People with little to no money, escaping dangerous conditions, determined to reach a place of safety only to be turned away because they don't have money to pay Trump's greed?

OK, so you do. Anything to make it more difficult is what you want, right? Send them back appears to be your stand on this issue. You make it very plain. And do you want to do this for any person seeking legal admission to the United States because seeking asylum is a legal process. The only people not having to pay Trump's charge will be those undocumented immigrants who slip across the border (or gain access by some other means) and into the population.

You do realize that your White America will be a minority by 2046 and history is against you. Even Trump can't stop the demographic change that's coming. His desire to stop asylum seekers would only be a very small effort, but very cruel, attempt at halting the reality. It only make the U.S. look less in the eyes of the world.

It's all transactional to Donald Trump. You pay the money and you get to play. Now we see him becoming the coyote demanding payment to access to the United States. One group (the original coyote) gets paid to bring people to the border, and the new coyote (Donald Trump) gets paid to let them apply for asylum. Go figure.

This guy would make millions charging people escaping war, famine, pestilence, death to come to some safe zone where they can live their lives peacefully. It doesn't matter as long as he makes a buck. This is particularly cruel since it is taking from the least of us for the benefit of the most fortunate. The sadness is that Trump can now say he has monetized human suffering on a national level, extorting poor people in the most vile way imaginable.

The only thing worse are those who take these people's money and lead them into the desert to die. Where is the humanity. There have been human wolves who have always moved in to take advantage of those seeking escape from danger, but who would have thought an American president would take a similar path? Trump is just another coyote in an expensive suit doing his con at the expense of those least able to pay.

Absolutely absurd. People who are seeking asylum are by definition people who are in an oppressed state. Part of the reason they are seeking relief is most don't money. So if you make it legally impossible for those seeking help, they will turn to illegal methods.

Thats like saying well send you an ambulance if you can first walk a block to get to it.

Now for non-asylum seeking immigrants, if he wants to increase fees for that... lets talk. If a company needs a foreign worker to come in on a work visa - let the company pay. If you have a large golf course - oh say hypothetically in Florida - and decide to hire 80% foreign seasonal labor.... by all means charge those employers for that privilege.

But asylum seekers are just that. They are the impoverished of the world. Help them based on need, not whats in their bank account.

Exactly correct Mr. President! Let them pay for the wall! This is real leadership:doing right things and doing right things the right way!"

Please. Give it a rest. Trump promised Mexico would pay for the wall. Not Honduras. Not Guatemala. Mexico. Then, he was caught, on camera telling Mexico's President that "he knows that Mexico isn't paying for the wall, but please tell the press you will". Mexico's President told him No. That's real leadership.
