Maybe we should be asking what would drive a 19 year old with an A average in high school, a talented musician, no criminal record, to do such a terrible thing? It was not the gun that created this action.

"John Earnest — the 19-year-old man who police say entered a Southern California synagogue, murdered a 60-year-old woman and injured several more people on Saturday — claims to have acted, in part, to avenge the death of Simon of Trent.

“You are not forgotten Simon of Trent, the horror that you and countless children have endured at the hands of the Jews will never be forgiven,” he wrote in a manifesto uploaded to the text repository"

And before anyone tries to blame Trump, Jake Tapper just came out and admitted Trump did not say neo-nazis were good people too.

Ask Venezuelans what they think now of total gun confiscation. Ask them who is running around the country indiscriminantly killing citizens, armed Maduro supporters who are the ones allowed to have guns after they stripped gun ownership from everyone else.

This is part of the socialists plan of controlling the population. I mean how often are we told we should have no fear of our government.

"Anyone with merely a cursory knowledge of Sanders' career knows that during the 1970s and 1980s he supported and defended "authoritarian" communist regimes.

Bernie not only supports the cultural prowess of the Soviet Union, he praises Fidel Castro and the Nicaraguan Sandinistas' leadership, both of which were "authoritarian" regimes. Castro's regime killed "tens of thousands" of Cubans"

To get to were Bernie and a dozen of the other 2020 candidates want to go will end up no better than Venzuela.

"NoNames Accepted, gun laws by state in the US don't matter. There are no checks at the borders and people are free to purchase guns, ammo and clips in one state and drive unimpeded into another state. Your railing against the gun laws in California mattereth not. The entire nation will always be subject to whatever the weakest gun law is in any state."

It is already illegal for a California resident to purchase a handgun in any other state, and even sale of a long gun must comply with California laws, which require it to be sent to a California dealer for their background check and waiting period.

The lie that high violence in gun ban areas is because somewhere else has weak laws is absurd. If weak gun laws caused violence then that location would have even more violence than places like CA, but they don't.

It's not the guns, it's the criminals and crazy people.

" Over 11,000 people are killed in drunk driving accidents each year in the United States – and one person dies in a drunk driving accident every 45 minutes Far more people are killed by drunk drivers than by guns"

We average 10,000 gun related homicides a year.

    Thid, here are the facts:

"There were 39,773 gun deaths in 2017, up by more than 1,000 from the year before. Nearly two-thirds were suicides. It was the largest yearly total on record in the C.D.C.’s electronic database, which goes back 50 years, and reflects the sheer number of lives lost."

    Please keep it real.

By the way, an armed, off duty border patrol officer returned fire against this shooter and saved lives! Thus we see, again, that a good guy with a gun was what stopped a bad buy with a gun!
    ---

From the report the suspect was running away from the scene. There was mention that the firearm he had, had malfunctioned. The CBP officer fired on the suspect as he was leaving, missed, but struck the car.

According to the article the fact that there was an armed person in the congregation, did not 'stop' a bad guy from firing into the synagogue, killing and injuring members, and then leave the scene.

By your logic it's ok that a few get killed in such incidents because eventually an armed person may eventually stop the carnage.

How about effective gun control, and limiting the type of weapons available to the general public. Of course criminals will always find a way to circumvent law. That's a definition of a criminal. But the point of control is to limit the number of firearms available for such criminal use.

Frozen: Over 11,000 people are killed in drunk driving accidents each year in the United States – and one person dies in a drunk driving accident every 45 minutes Far more people are killed by drunk drivers than by guns! Any death is terrible, yet we have people who don't get outraged at drinking. Why, I wonder?
By the way, an armed, off duty border patrol officer returned fire against this shooter and saved lives! Thus we see, again, that a good guy with a gun was what stopped a bad buy with a gun! Obviously, what we need to stop bad guys with guns is more good guys with guns! Can't say that about drunk driving laws!

"If Cali gun laws won't prevent horrible crimes--and they won't, and neither with total bans such as in GB, NZ, et"

Not when your standard requires elimination of all gun violence. Policies can certainly reduce gun violence. After all, it's not like any beer law eliminates 100% of drunk driving so by your logic we shouldn't even bother with the .05 standard.

    This should not have happened.

The ownership of assault weapons and handguns should require proper training and certification.

The head in the sand mentality of Republicans is ridiculous.

If we can greatly reduce intoxicated drivers, we can reduce gun violence.

It's a good thing an off-duty police officer was there to take a shot at him or things might have been much worse. Too bad he missed but I imagine that was a pretty tough shot under that kind of pressure.

@Hutterite: "No room for discussion of real solutions."

But demonstrably never too early for people to use horrible crimes for their own political purposes.

What "real" solutions do you propose?

And how do you have any idea such ideas would have any benefit relative to what just happened? We know nothing about this except a location, number injured, and a gun of some sort was used. So what do you propose that Cali doesn't already do?

Cali has red flag laws, safe storage laws, limits on magazine size, has banned scarey looking guns, has a waiting period, bans private sales--all sales go through a dealer with background check--and in most counties, refuses to issue permits to carry for self defense.

So what do you propose that Cali doesn't already have on their books?

Don't expect me to give any more respect to your favorite court invented rights than you will give to my constitutionally, explicitly enumerated rights.

@Hutterite: "Thoughts and prayers, now is not the time, where is the outrage?"

We are all outraged. Did you notice this happened in Cali where all magazines over 10 rounds are outlawed. Sportster model rifles are also illegal. Private party sales are illegal. California imposes a safe storage law. It has a red flag (or extreme risk) seizure law. And in most counties, it is impossible for regular people to get permits to carry.

Which laws exactly do you propose to prevent these crimes that Cali does not already have?

It is one thing to falsely equate outrage with justification to pass more laws in places like Utah or Idaho. But in Cali? Give it a rest. If Cali gun laws won't prevent horrible crimes--and they won't, and neither with total bans such as in GB, NZ, etc--then no laws will.

My rights to an effective self defense against the very criminals lefties release from prison early, are subject to irrational phobias or emphatic demands.
