    As far as I know, the first real marathon in Utah was in 1970, the first Deseret News Days of '47 Pioneer Day Marathon held on July 24th. It ran from Lagoon down into SLC and finished at the Brigham Young monument. As I recall, the winner was Ray Barris. As a 15 year old (too young to run a marathon, in my opinion), I ran in that race and finished arm-in-arm with a U. of U. runner, Doug Rideout. I still have my official bib, number 47. Great memories of that day.... (I hope my memories are accurate.)
