We most stop the drilling and save the planet. Hmm!

Some folks believe fossil fuel is a gift from god while others feel it's a tool of the devil to destroy mankind.

We all must make up our minds.

Warren and Obama "worked hard" and "understand the everyday person".

Well, in my opinion: not so much.

How hard does one work to be a "Community Organizer"?

As racially divisive as Obama was (Harvard professor and several other examples) I question whether he understands "the everyday person".

I have heard nothing from E. Warren to indicate that her understanding is any better.

More about the common interest. Drilling is essential to maintaining our economy, which benefits the country as a whole. We need petroleum for fuel and for synthetics. That affects almost all Americans. Do People from Maine want to walk to our National Parks ? How can the parks benefit people who can't get there ? Yes, drilling companies make profits. They also pay wages and buy drilling supplies and equipment and provide maintenance. Profits are also spread out among investors, including private individuals, and entities such as insurance companies, retirement funds, benefitting the public sector. And the companies are required to respect and restore the environment. If they do not, then the Federal Government has been derelict in it's duty.

In 1995 congress set apart the Mojave National Preserve, and one thing congress is responsible for is providing a budget for parks. For the fiscal year 1996 congress allocated one dollar for startup costs. Because the Interior budget had already been set for that year, look it up if you don’t believe me.
Now each president who has invoked executive actions to create, expand, reduce or eliminate a national designation has no Fiscal Responsibility to fund those units. That is left to Congress.
If she is elected and follows through, how much will our debt increase?
On the other hand, when President Trump reduced the Bears Ear and Grand Staircase monuments, did congress reduce their budgets? Or did Interior fight tooth and nail to keep the previous amounts funded.
We have several million acres of federal lands designated for various reasons, we the tax payers maintain those lands, yes 1/4 of national parks and monuments charge and entrance fee, 1/4 of which stays in the unit if lucky. The rest goes to assist parks and monuments who don’t rely on fees for upkeep and maintenance.
Don’t forget why this country was formed.

Moag she's between .06% and 1.5% which means nothing.

Glad she will never be elected President. She'd screw up the west.

Her assertion that families have to pay the equivalent of a days pay to get into a national park is incredibly naive. Fees are $25.00 to $30.00 to get into a park currently. Some may go up.

Where is she going to cut to get that money to the national parks so that the parks can be maintained without the entry fee? The parks are already under funded and can't keep up with maintenance needs.

She just plain has no clue.

"European-Americans had genomes that were on average 98.6 per cent European, 0.19 per cent African and 0.18 Native American." 2014 New York Times study. Progressives and liberals are angry at Trump because he is human, but hasn't been politically correct. They want someone like Warren because she will tell them what they want to hear while living completely the opposite. Trump hasn't presented himself as a saint. He just said what he was for and has by and large stood by it. Warren, Clinton and others will decry all sorts of things, declare they are for the middle class and then give us higher taxes, Obamacare, and abortion on demand! They made it through the abortion mill, so for the rest of us, too bad! Bernie is a millionaire, but wants everyone else to live on welfare and minimum wage (or a little higher if he is feeling really generous with other people's money). Of course, AOC is so absurd to defy description. Youth, ignorant youth! I don't care about Trump's tweets. Who cares what he tweets? Would you rather have someone who makes promises that they can't fulfill and know they won't, but talks nice or someone that sets for policy and then tweets? Trump 2020!

Rita B: No, her DNA testing did not prove what she is claiming. In fact, the DNA testing unequivocally showed that she is 1/64th or less American Indian! However, that did not stop her from listing her ethnicity as “American Indian” instead of “White” on her application to the Texas Bar Association in 1986 (and on several other occasions), even though she had listed herself as “white” on still other occasions. Such self-serving conduct is simply not defensible.

If she takes a special interest in Native American issues because of her family heritage, I think that it is very inappropriate and tasteless to make fun of that. In a Medium.com post, Warren also pledged that "on my first day as president, I will sign an executive order that says no more drilling — a total moratorium on all new fossil fuel leases, including for drilling offshore and on public lands."

Makes me wonder if she is getting from one campaign stop to the next on horseback. I find it highly hypocritical that liberals preach to us about reducing fossil fuel consumption while they ride around in black SUVs and fly between campaign stops in jets.

Liberals want you to do as they say not as they do. They are the "smart" ones (sarcasm). I will stick with Trump. He keeps his promises. The economy is doing well. My taxes went down and I am not one of the 1%. I don't hate the people who are part of the 1%.

Thank you, Brad Peterson. You have recognized that the real problem is the defective Antiquities Act itself.

It was justified to congress as an emergency power to protect archaeological sites from looters. So, because a site could be destroyed before congress could act to protect it, Congress delegated emergency power to act quickly to the POTUS.

The part they forgot was to require Congress to follow up with a more deliberative solution, which might involve excavation, restoration, preservation, investigation, or rejection. Not every trace of every man is worthy of becoming a monument, but certainly many are. And that is where Congress has responsibility because they need to make those judgement calls and balance them against funding available to do so.

Special deals were carved out for Wyoming and Alaska protecting them from Presidential excesses, not a bad approach. Better would be to put a time limit on every Monument. If Congress fails to give a more permanent designation within some appropriate time frame, it would expire and return to it's former status, not to be attempted again within 10 years.

Forget who is the candidate flavor of the month. Fix the AA.

Excuse me, but doesn't the land belong to all the American people? Or does the person quoted want Utah public lands for Utahns only. Well, we can play that game in Montana too. Don't like our rules, then stay out of Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. And a bunch more of the state on top of that.

Come on folks, when western states got admitted into the Union, these states knew that much of the land in state borders was considered national property. It belongs to all of us, even in places like Montana where our national lands are every bit as important as Bear's Ears or whatever other national park, forest or land the pitch forks are out to protect.

    @marxist:
"Fascists" and "Nazis" are indeed completely socialist. Socialism is defined as "government that controls the means of production and distribution of wealth". Hitler and Mussolini were just two different countries' versions of "National Socialism". They allowed private corporations, but under government control. The profits were also directed to the Party.
Socialism is the "transition state" between a free market and full communism, exactly as planned by the communist theorists. These things have well-defined meanings and history. But because they all failed, Marxists devotees claim "That wasn't true socialism."....a variation of the "no true Scotsman" fallacy.

    Please, Sen. Elizabeth:

    1. Federal public lands are leased, not sold, to oil and gas and coal miners.

    2. Rigorous impact studies are conducted and post-drilling and mining reclamation is required to ensure abuses of the past aren't repeated.

    3. There are better ways to prevent desecration of sacred Native American sites and destruction of fragile ecosystems than a monument, which attract unregulated tourism that accelerates the destruction.

    3. A ban on drilling would undercut national security and wreak havoc on the economy.

    4. Every American buys vast amounts of products manufactured by use of fossil fuels. Those tourists you'd lure to Utah national parks cannot get there without pouring carbon pollution in the air. Until consumers drastically cut back on their lifestyle, a ban on drilling to fight climate change is hollow rhetoric. Sources from overseas would just fill the niche and our trade deficit would shoot up even further.

    5. Royalties from oil and gas fields in San Juan County pump millions into county and Navajo Nation coffers. There are virtually no other sources of good-paying jobs down there. Your proposal targets the poorest of Utah's poor.

I enjoy visiting our National Parks and believe they should be preserved. However, Senator Warren's bad math is bothering me.

"charge families who make the minimum wage more than a day’s pay to access our parks,"

The minimum wage in MA is $12 per hour so shortly after two hours, a single minimum wage worker can get their entire family into Zion ($25 per car). Even at Utah's 7.25 per hour you can make $58 per day. Where is she going that costs that much money? Acadia is also $25 per car. Minute Man national park is free!

"No fees should be charged to enter taxpayer-funded national parks"

Making parks free will destroy them. They are already over-crowded and it's not the mountain goats causing the damage. I am scared to think of what would happen to Zion or Arches if they are free. Have you seen them on Memorial Day?

Senator Warren, please preserve our most beautiful national lands by increasing the entrance fee a little. Or you could just do nothing and that would be great. Here's a compromise, lets make it free for some semi-randomly section of the population that changes from year to year, like say 4th graders. Oh wait, they already do that. Perfect.

Just give Utah the same deal as Wyoming and Alaska. Want a big national monument? Great, do it through Congress.

Ms. Warren needs to come and study out the facts of the issue (Bear's Ears, etc.) before making blanket statements about what she obviously has little or no understanding of.

The courts will have overruled the Trump administration long before Warren or any other Democrat sits in the WH. We're a country of laws, held together by our constitution, until proven otherwise.

She knows she could never win a state like Utah so she is using Utah as a way to entice radical leftists in blue states to vote for her over other radical leftists, all promising to give away that which the government has no constitutional basis to give. The politics of the left is based on exploitation.

Unifying? What is one thing she has done to appeal to constitutional conservatives? We thought Obama could be unifying, too, until he turned into an all-out race baiter. Remember the "Hands up, don't shoot!" lie? Personally, I'll never forget what Obama and Democrats did to sabotage race relations in America.

WE lived in Boston for 3 years, during that time, I heard more people talk about Senator Warren, these were democrats, and they all talked about how she has never gotten done anything she said she would do before the election... she is all talk and no action, so if any of you environmentalist , think she is your answer to everything you hate about Utah, you could not be more wrong,,, I have seen the real Senator Warren, she will say anything that she thinks you want to hear....

Thank you senator Warren for giving me another reason to vote against you and the dooms day fanaticism of the environmentalist movement.

@ Baccus what about the gas oil & uranium? I remember a time when Natural gas was suggested as a clean alternative to oil and coal by environmentalist until it became viable. Or the extremely clean nuclear power until they went China syndrome schizophrenic. Clearly Virginia is ignorant about the land mismanagement we have been subject to. I am not surprised from a state where the federal government only owns 9% of the land . Would you like to take a drive with me between nephi and St george and see the miles of dead junipers and habitats for wild life destroyed by parasite infestation because we can't touch it. How about come up with me above strawberry where almost one third of the forest is standing dead wood starving our wild life because we can't log to clean out the old deadwood choking off the younger plant life. We have a natural disaster crisis developing here that will make the Rodeo Chedeski fire in AZ seem a cake walk all result of of environmentalist policies treating it like a museum rather than a garden.

@embarrassedUtahn - we already had our moonshot created nuclear power. Unfortunately, many on the left have decided we don't want the obvious solution, we would rather have a solution that produces 300x the toxic waste, despoils huge tracts of land with windmills and solar panels, doesn't produce energy if it's night or the wind isn't blowing, and makes our energy bills skyrocket.

I assume Senator Warren has stopped using the products of mining and drilling in her own personal life and in her campaign in order to show us how wonderful life will be when we no longer have reliable or inexpensive energy sources - not. Park entrance fees will the be least of our worries if we take the path she is promoting.

Our nation needs an all out, moon shot approach to developing renewable energy!

The Democratic Party is the only option for this.

The Republican Party wants to lead from behind. “We’ll do it when India and China start doing it“ .......what an Un-American attitude!

"These lands are sacred and must be protected for future generations."

Do you have scientific proof that these lands are sacred or this your religious belief?

Why should your religious beliefs determine public policy?
That is why I oppose making these lands into a monument, the motivation is religious and as such is not a reason for guiding public policy.

Find a secular reason to protect these lands and then I will listen.

Another reason the Democratic Party is losing the American people in favor of ruining the economy. The extreme left and right of both parties are clueless on how the world, or the economy actually work. The courageous work for real solutions and hard work in the middle.

Talk to me when someone actually fixes important issues like the federal deficit.
