Measures need to be taken to undo the mandates that are destroying the teaching profession. Some are mandated by the Legislature, and others by school districts themselves. As a start, allow teachers the freedom to do their job without constant micromanagement. Go back to one reasonable statewide test without 12 expected pretests. Give teachers the tools to deal with difficult students, even in elementary school. Pay subs enough to make the job worth doing.

Although we need to be very careful as to how it is spent and make sure that most of it goes to the people actually doing the teaching, more money needs to be invested in education. Additionally, we need to reduce standardized testing and place more trust in teachers over the curriculum presented in their classrooms.

    In my opinion,
If the writer is intent of raising the status of children’s education to the level that we give to medical care, I yell yea Kirstin Park. But if the change asking is for more community control of the subject matter and it’s presentation, I have to say boo.

A healthy body is a major part of the joy of life. We often seek and accept the best health care we can get from the entire world. Education is health care for our minds and deserves at least the same importance. It should not be left to the whims and desires of locals.
