    @curtaco

Earlier I posted " know I'm hoping Utah will win another skiing title both for the University of Utah and the PAC-12. We'll know the results of that in two more days."

Well we now know. Utah won the NCAA skiing championship. One more championship for the University of Utah. Also one more to add to the 517 championships (as of 1/1/19) for the Conference of Champions - the PAC-12. This adds to the 215 championships that separate the PAC-12 from the Big 12 which is in second place.

A great day to be a Ute and a great day for the PAC-12!

The PAC-12 is very competitive, it is not weak. Anybody can beat anybody on a given night. I think Coach K has done his best coaching job this year.

If Utah wasn’t in the PAC 12, coug fans couldn’t care less about how “weak” or “not deserving of a P5” it supposedly is. They only act that way, because of envy. Would the school permanently stuck in the 80s rather be independent/WCC, or in the PAC 12?

We all know the answer. Hence all the comments degrading the PAC to make yourselves feel better!

    Go Utes...beat UCLA!

“When they accepted Utah into the PAC 12, the conference acknowledged acceptance of the 20 national titles they had won prior to that. So yes, Utah is part of the PAC 12 legacy now.”

    All in non-revenue sports like...

Coed Skiing, in which there is vitually no competition except for Denver and Colorado,

and in Women’s Gymnastics, in which the Red Rocks haven’t won a Natty this century.

A Utah Man is practically non-existent in the world of National Championships.

4th in the state, but 3rd in the PAC? 🤔

The PAC-12 is very competitive, it is not weak. Anybody can beat anybody on a given night. I think Coach K has done his best coaching job this year. The freshmen class has been incredible and if the incoming talent is as good as this year, the Utes are on the rise and that is exciting. When the three's are raining down, the Utes look as good as anybody. It will take three good shooting nights to get to the NCAA tourney, so impressed with Parker Van Dyke, he has really developed into a very good player. I hope Barefield's confidence is up and he let's the shots fly in Vegas, his shot is pure beauty. With a win vs. UCLA, Utah will have accomplished the unthinkable considering where they were at the start of the season. GO UTES!

A good win, now beat UCLA. Where is my friend Troy town? He’s not here to congratulate the winning team? Now that’s curious?

One comment states that the PAC-12 IS the conference of champions because "we have won more NCAA titles (in all sports, throughout history) than any other conference." We?

The utes don't have a problem connecting themselves to those championships even if the vast majority of it happened a long time ago, well before ute inclusion in the conference was even imagined. But they do have a problem with another school which achieved national championship status (also back in the day) and chide expressions of school pride regarding same.

    Hypocritical?

Looks like USC didn't have a very good team this year.

BTW, I'm not a BYU alum.

"Utes win and comments from two Y fans focused on the PAC 12. Does it still bother you that your rival is in a P5 conference?"

No more focused than I am on any other conference. And no it doesn't bother me that Utah is in the PAC. They earned it. I wish my team were a member, but not at the expense of Utah.

And finally it warms my heart to hear a Ute rightfully admit that we ARE STILL your rival.

Plenty of young talent to build on...but I'm nervous about our coach's willingness or ability to do so. With that salary came expectations that haven't been met. Our AD and our boosters should make it clear that his performance has been underwhelming.

"One team will enter the NCAA tourney because the champion gets an invite. Does this sound like the conference of champions?

No, it does not. This year is such an exception. Typically there are multiple teams from the PAC-12 invited to the NCAA tourney, as your post implies. That said, Utah fan can be proud of a team which was picked to place 8th in the conference standing in third place, with one game remaining.

As for the Conference of Champions, we'll see how the PAC-12 does when all the championships are decided at the end of the year. I suspect, once again, we will do better than the other conferences. I know I'm hoping Utah will win another skiing title both for the Universiry of Utah and the PAC-12. We'll know the results of that in two more days.

"One team will enter the NCAA tourney because the champion gets an invite. Does this sound like the conference of champions?"

Yes it does. You see, the conference of champions moniker is given because we have won more NCAA titles (in all sports, throughout history) than any other conference. That's a simple statement of fact. It's not open for debate.

So the fact that the conference is having one bad year in one sport is no way reflective of its status as the conference of champions.

By the way, how many national titles has the West Coast Parochial Conference won?

Pac 12 basketball is weak at present. I believe that it is more a case of bad coaching than not having the talent. We saw a good one on the sidelines for the Utes, however and he is the best thing our program has going for it right now. Let's be honest--this guy took a team that was woefully devoid of Sr. leadership at the beginning of the season and turned Barefield and Van Dyke into two of the best leaders in the conference. He also took a bunch of freshmen and a talented but tentative soph and made them gel while allowing them freedom. They are in a position to finish 5 slots higher than predicted and to go to the NIT. Think about that. Don't try to tell me Larry K can't coach 'em up a bit, son. Or, if you do--don't pout when I pat you on the head and send you outside to play.

According to the national press and prognosticators, the pac is extremely weak this year. If Washington wins the tournament, (I give them 90% chance of doing this), the pac will have 1 team in the NCAA tournament.

Curtaco - You're right. It sounds more like the WCC, if they only get one invitation to the big dance and you ignore the hundreds of national championships the PAC 12 has in its history.

Good win. First time I watched since the last UCLA game. They are an entertaining team. Just a thought, but against USC did it seem they played better and more fluid without Johnson?

While the balanced scoring was nice, the D was nicer. Everybody rebounded, and in Johnson's absence, Topalovic played aggresive interior defense, which I thought was huge.
