Those of us who still value faith, freedom, and family appreciate Gayle's efforts more than we can say. If more people were as knowledgeable and committed, our communities, state and country would be better off. Unfortunately ignorance, apathy, and negligence have taken their toll. We need more people who value correct and lasting principles over self aggrandizement, financial gain, and political power. Thank you, Gayle and God bless.

I hope not. She has always been on the fringe, at least to my thinking.

Im sorry to say it but Gayle Ruzicka is out of touch and her values only benefit the few.
Her stance on issues are dated and she no longer able to be open minded to todays values.

You championed the state and the people during your time but Its time for Gayle Ruzicka to retire

The republican political party has prostrated itself in complete total obsesiance to the likes of trump who is unquestionably the complete antithesis of all that was good about the republican party namely fiscal restraint and family values.

The republican political party will persist in ignoring/excusing everything trump has done, does and will continue to do.

The only thing politically relevant in trump's iteration of the once proud republican party is to blindly follow trump however low he takes the party in terms of ethics, integrity and morality.

For one thing, the party doesn't even look like the party she spent years identifying as her party. They have gotten more extreme right in some cases and in others put their party to shame with fiscal irresponsibility especially at the federal level.

She is no longer relevant. Few pay much attention to her anymore where at one-time a law would suddenly be passed or not passed just by the look she gave legislastors over her glasses.

This is a women who seems to hold on h he past more than move into the world as it is today. Things that were black and white when Mrs. Ruzika began her political career are not so black and white today. The definition of "family" has changed. Schools have changed dramatically from the time I was in grade school in the 1040's. Our laws have gone from black and white to grey. Listening to Mrs. Ruzika she is still a dedicated worker to her cause, it is just that time has passed on and her relevance is not what it was when I first knew her 30 years ago.

    God bless Gayle Ruzicka!
For those who don't believe in God, they might not like the fact that Gayle Ruzicka's work at the Legislature has saved the lives of many unborn children, has protected the rights of parents to make the decisions for the children (unless the parent has been proven unfit), and has protected the State of Utah to be supportive, and in sync, with the Constitution of the United States.
We are all blessed by the great, untiring, work of Gayle Ruzicka!

No one forgot that, Herb. Imp was correctly pointing out to Light that he was wrong when he said a majority elected Dear Leader. In fact, the GOP has won the majority of votes in a Presidential election only once since 1992, and that was in 2004.

It's incredibly rare to hear anyone say Gayle is mean or rude - after they've actually met her. I've heard many, many people who have formed their impressions of her second-hand criticize her profusely, and it is wholly unwarranted. She is a master of making friends with her opponents because she genuinely loves people. Few people have ever been as frequently, falsely, and maliciously maligned as Gayle, and it doesn't phase her one bit. She may not always be 100% right, but she's pretty darn close, and she is remarkably brave for standing up for unchanging truth in a rapidly changing world.

Point of note: this article tries to pit Gayle and Mike Lee on opposite sides of the paid family leave issue, but the fact is that both support family leave and both oppose using taxpayer funds to pay for it. Lee's bill is to allow people to withhold contributions to their own social security fund to cover family leave costs. They could then pay it back by extending their contributions to an older age. It does not use tax dollars, which is exactly what Gayle supports.

    @Mom with a Mission:

Everybody agrees that Ruzicka has a right to express her ideas and lobby for the laws she likes. But many of us find her views to be narrow-minded and mean-spirited, and we wish our legislators didn't pay so much attention to her.

Lies, lies, lies. None of this is true. Eagle Forum nor Gayle ever promoted these stances.

As much as I detest some of the ideas she promotes, I believe her to be honest and sincere in her words and deeds. Can she be relevant with today's Republican party? I don't see how anyone with a shred of integrity can be part of the criminal enterprise known as the trump presidency. Money laundering, insurance fraud, real estate fraud, tax evasion are all criminal offenses. Pornography, adultery, sexual assault are things she abhors. She should distance herself from the relevance of the rebulican party.

  • Mom With A Mission Lehi, UT

I love all the whiners saying her ideas should not be allowed, and that she has no right to influence legislators. Did any of you study American History and Civilization? She is doing exactly what everyone should be doing. The reason she is so effective is because she cares enough to be there, to get to know the legislators, to talk to them, serve on committees, and articulate her views without “bullying” name calling, disrespecting, or bribing. She volunteers all her time. If you’re so opposed, get up there and make your voice heard too! I’m sure she’d be happy to show you the ropes.

It would be good for us all to remember that we also have a Constitution and what is known as an Electoral College.

That is how we elect a President. Candidates who understand this concept campaign in the states that will most likely determine the election.

Gayle Ruzicka represents that paradox of activism: the woman upholding "traditional" values who spends an inordinate amount of time away from the hearth. Isn't it ironic that someone who spends so much time to keep women in the home has to spend so much time out of the home?

How can one be "moderate" on a subject like abortion?
The Liberal-Left has derided conservatives and ridiculed their arguments as a "slippery-slope" fallacy. But we see now that the slippery-slope was real. We have already slid to the very bottom of the slop. The Democrat party really does support "very late third trimester abortions".

There are only three trimesters, and so "late third trimester" means "right up to birth".
And then they even want to let Mother and Doctors "have a discussion" about whether a live, viable, living, already-born infant should be allowed to live or die.

  • RiDal Sandy, UT

Conservatism is actually wining the culture war, now that the elite media outlets no longer have a monopoly on the control of information.

Younger people have always appeared to be "more liberal"; but then they keep growing up and becoming conservatives.
Recall that all of today's conservatives were once flower children who believed we were entering the Age of Aquarius!
Reality has a habit of requiring that it be faced.

When can the 'white, mormon, male' have an advocate for victim hood like everyone else burrowing at the trough of the Utah Legislature or, in fact, across America? Why can't we allow people to figure out a few things on their own without running to the seat of power to whine, complain, and espouse victim status? If you truly like freedom, equality, and justice, you would say to all those crying 'victim', 'this isn't our job. Go find your own path to peace, prosperity, and happiness without wanting the validation of somebody in the seat of power or carving out a special place for you to blame someone for your own challenges or problems!' Trump exists because that silent majority, who thought vainly and naively for a generation, finally said, 'this is ridiculous. Give me someone that won't continue siding with the irresponsible, the victims, and the ones who want someone to make them feel good.' The legislature and our government is not meant to solve every crisis. The silent majority that elected Trump will still be around in 2 years.

First off, I can only think of one or maybe two times I have ever agreed with Gayle Ruzicka. On the other hand, if those who differ with her, myself included, were to bring to bear a fraction of the energy and dedication, the knowledge of process, personalities, hopes and fears that she has, the political picture in Utah would be far different than it is. Ruzicka claims to have an all powerful phone tree with which she can rally enough Mormon Republican voters to bring down the wrath of god on any legislator with whom she disagrees. The cowards in the legislature bend in fear to her claims.

Does she really have that many people on this legendary phone tree to make a difference? No one really knows how many members of the Eagle Forum there are.

Remember, the only thing you have to fear, is fear itself. Ruzicka creates a fear and legislators cower.

I would think it is important to distinguish that she is a social conservative. When you define conservatives (or liberals for that matter) as a monolithic group, you miss some very important points, and mislead many people.

As a Libertarian-type conservative (meaning socially liberal, fiscally conservative), I find Ruzicka's social/religious views abhorrent for the most part. And yet, for the DN's purposes, we are thrown together merely as conservatives.
