A #3 seed may be a blessing in disguise. BYU will get an extra game before a presumed semi against St. Marys. They obviously need to go out and win the quarter final game, but that extra game in the arena and a day to recover physically may be the edge they need against St. Marys on Monday night. A real game Saturday is better than a practice. Since beating Gonzaga is probably an impossible task, the next best thing is to provide the best opportunity of getting to final game to get a better NIT seed.

Two MWC, mid majors ranked higher than the best of the Pac 12, with the # 2 WCC right behind. Proof of their imminent collapse as a P 5 conference.

Thank you BYUtv for televising this game. It was fun to watch and the BYU defense was much better than in years past. I liked how the ball moved and other players got involved, but the grit they showed was the most impressive thing. Nothing came easy and the other team was shooting lights out from three range. I do have to admit that I was disappointed at losing such a big lead, but I really enjoyed the finish.

Incidentally, I was also very excited that USU beat #12 Nevada as well. It was a fun Saturday to be sure.

Save Gonzaga, the WCC has looked really mediocre this season. San Fran lost to LMU at home which is why BYU is 3rd not 4th. If Gonzaga ever leaves, this conference will fall apart financially and in attendance. BYU has had a considerable drop off in attendance this year. Fans need something to cheer about.

"When they were good, they were very, very good. But when they were bad they were awful."

BYU has played even with some good teams for extended periods. But they seem to have that stretch during the game when they play like clueless high schoolers. The San Francisco melt-down is the best example. Cut out those stretchs and I like the Cougs chances in any game. Maybe they can make a run in the WCC tournament. Championship? Not likely. But perhaps a good seed in the NIT. With the low-caliber of play the PAC12 may get only one invite to the NCAAs. If the Cougs finish a strong 2nd in the WCC maybe, just maybe, there might be an opeing in the NCAAs.

Congratulations to the cougs in a solid victory. They played with intensity, purpose, and much better team cohesion both on defense and offense. I thought that Nick Emory both on offense and defense played much more up to expectations and am encouraged he is approaching the consistency and skill level of which he is capable. Freshman Baxter was missed and hope he'll be ready for the tournament. All in all this was an enjoyable win!

Dave Rose choreographed the last 7 minutes of the game so that no one would leave early.

A little bit of a letdown after going up by 20, but the Cougars got the job done closing out SD.

On to the tourney where BYU needs one more win to get to 20.

That was a good game, but when USD started their run, I thought "here we go again." But the Cougars clamped down on defense and played really tough ball.

Shooting comes and goes, but defense is the key. Great game, guys.

The analysis by players and Rose is always the same...so my question is "why do you keep doing the same stupid things over and over again? " This team has talent and considerable experience, and should be well over beginners mistakes. What's wrong with this picture?

Stalling cost us the game against San Francisco. Almost this game as well. Dave needs to end that practice till less than 2 minutes. Don't change what is working. Keep foot on accelerator.

Less than two weeks ago, all the Cougs had to do was to win one home game and the second seed, and with it, a first round bye into the tournament. Now, it's a third seed and, at best, an invite to the NIT.
