    @Happy Valley Heretic,

“I didn't make any accusations. Just asked a question. Never take things at face value. Do your own research and study than draw your own conclusion.”

Quite comical coming from one that repetitively regurgitates ongoing low information and propaganda to lecture any member of the college educated demographic regarding anything whatsoever that has to do with “research” and “studying”. Keep digging Worf! You’re welcome.

@happy valley heretic asks: "Why would you ask this worf, do you actually believe that any of our elected officials are promoting drug trafficking?"

    - Desperation?
    - Despondency?
    - Disillusionment?

    ...or just standard operating procedure?

Trump said: " I didn't have to do it" (to declare a national emergency). Isn't that the truth. A possible constitutional crisis is at hand just so Trump can show his base (and Ann Coulter) that he's not a wimp.

worf -asked: "Got to wonder why politicians are so reluctant with border protection. Are they promoting drug trafficking?"

Why would you ask this worf, do you actually believe that any of our elected officials are promoting drug trafficking?

Do you have any evidence that elected officials in either party are promoting drug trafficking?

Are you just shouting speculative statements to get attention in these comments?

With far, far more evidence of Russian interference in our election you choose to ignore the facts. But your willing to make up accusations without evidence or facts, this is the problem with the average Trump supporter.

Remember too where the extra money is coming from as a result of declaring a national emergency: defense, specifically construction of schools on bases and other infrastructure.

Before we get mired in the relative merits of The Wall and schools for military kids zoom back a bit.

This is pork-barrel spending, much of it in the reddest of red states.

Republican Senators who once felt secure that they brought home the bacon are now facing the prospect of having Trump reallocate those funds for his campaign-slogan ego-salve.

For them, the issue is not a choice between border security and military spending. It is about political survival. There are a lot of home-state contractors and suppliers who have been counting on the original allocation of defense funds. These are the folks who max out their donations and keep Senators in office. 2020 is a tough calendar for Senate Republicans as it is, and Trump is making it harder. Loyalty had limits.

These "emergency" votes become a stalking horse for impeachment. We assumed the GOP would remain in lockstep to blindly support Trump. Now we can start counting votes to see how close to the threshold we might be.

    Unforced errors all.

While I doubt the Senate and House would vote to override the President's proposed veto, it is important to note who amongst these legislators supported the President.

I know that if I can vote for one of the President's supporters, I will vote against him/her. Categorically, whether I agree with their other political/policy positions or not.

As far as i am concerned, this is a National Crisis on the same order as Civil Wars, World Wars and Building Bombings. No President should ever be allowed to usurp the Constitutional authority of the Legislature to build an monument to his fragile ego.

Those so-called Conservatives who support the President in this can no longer be called that. Now just what to name that is an open question.

The left with their sycophant fake news partners and some on the right are constantly underestimating President Trump and they always lose! The wall will be finished, and the left will howl as they always do! Drug smugglers, human traffickers and alien criminals and their enabler and facilitator Democrats will lose! Thank you President Trump! MAGA

    Veto?

    Trump is already talking veto.

Yeah, his world is so different than it was 3 months ago.

The mere fact that Trump and friends are scrambling to reassure ... um ... somebody ... that they will veto Congress's initial volley to bring an end to this contrived ego-crisis is a sign that the GOP is beginning to cut its losses with this guy.

Enough GOP Senators will vote with Democrats to declare that this national emergency is all done. These Senators are starting to run their own calculus and are finding that there is more to lose standing with Trump than standing opposed to himg.

THAT is a huge change from their subservient groveling of the prior 2 years. It is irreversible and only gets worse for Trump as more indictments are filed and the walls of the Oval Office close tighter.

The Wall is only a distraction and an emotional prpaganda tool to create division.

More and more American are realizing Trump's ambitions go well beyond his duty to country or building a WALL.

A veto is expected. But the vote will force Congressmen and Senators to be on the record if they support the Constitution's principle that Congress has the power of the purse.

The Office of the President should the authority to act quickly during real emergencies. This President has abused that authority to create a "show" for his base.

Those that support the constitution will soon be on record. Those that support the President's show will also be on record...

Americans. Read Trump's tweets today. He called the media "The enemy of the people" (just like Mao, Stalin and Hitler). Then , he questioned how SNL is allowed to do "hit jobs" on Republicans. This, from the guy that spent years trying to convince America that Obama was a Muslim, born in Kenya. Wake up America.

Trump should have vetoed the spending bill and dared the republicans that voted for it to do so again.

$5.3 billion of US taxpayer money for border security fencing in Israel, Ukraine, and Jordan. I thought walls were immoral?

It's good to hear Trump's "national emergency" is losing traction with some Republicans.

The Tea Party was founded in part as a protest against rising federal deficits. It's humorous Tea Party guy Jim Jordan wants to give Trump unlimited purse strings.

This is all part of the political dance that is currently being played out in Washington. Congress will pass legislation disapproving of Donald Trump's national emergency declaration, he will veto the legislation and Republican congresspeople will now be on record of taking a position. It is both a rejection of Trump's violation of the Constitution and the concept of a national emergency and will be a major political embarrassment for him.

Whether sufficient members of Congress vote to overturn the veto is irrelevant, because the lawsuits that are beginning to move through the courts, the Supreme Court has the fact that Congress disapproves and that will weigh heavily against Trump. This is besides his statement that he actions were voluntary and do not indicate a national emergency. Also the fact that he ran off to his golf course in Florida to take a vacation.

When does a president take a vacation during a national emergency? George W. Bush stayed in Florida reading books to children after airplanes crashed into the twin towers in New York while Dick Cheney took over and Bush was crucified in the press and the minds of the American people. This guy goes off to play golf?
