@FactThat's it for them. A QB that couldn't last in the
matman“When was the last time the U had a significant QB in
the NFL?”The Utes have never had an NFL or Super Bowl MVP
QB.Alex Smith is the only one who had the potential, but his career
is all but over.
If BYU continues to have poor seasons...it wouldn't surprise me to see him
change his commitment in 2 years. This year is huge for KS. All of the talk
has to be backed up by performance.
@ArizonauteWhen was the last time the U had a significant QB in the
Utes-PAC12Better to be a has been, than a never was.For
all your talk about being “in the discussion” U can count on 3 fingers the number of final AP ranked conference championship
teams Utah has had in 125 seasons.
“Corbin Kaufusi DID play when Utah was scoring at will in the 4th
quarter”Corbin did continue playing after reinjuring his knee
and ankle, which required 2 of 3 season ending surgeries he had after the game,
but he was far less effective.Without Corbin constantly harrassing
Shelley, he was finally able to complete a few long passes.
@Skywalker,BYU is a fossil these days. Nobody mentions them. Utah is
talked about every darn year after we were able to recruit good talent and show
up in the CFP polls most times. I thunk the last national player award that a
BYU player won was Luke Staley in 2002. You can relish in the awards, analog era
BYU players won last century. Army won 3 national titles and 3 Heismans as well
last century. The only thing is......ARMY is a way better football team than BYU
as of today. Good luck, saint.
@ everything is awesome,Conover needs to get a date one day is his
sole dream based on his interviews. His "priorities," according to you,
is the only option for him as of today, not his desire. Have you seen a picture
of Jacob Conover fine sir?
"Corbin wasn't constantly harassing Shelley, that the Utes finally
started to move the ball on offense."kleenex-phx:It
seems coog fans can not let go of this myth. Fact is, Corbin Kaufusi
DID play when Utah was scoring at will in the 4th quarter. Check the highlight
videos. Enjoy watching him getting trucked by Shyne and faked by Shelley.
Utes-PAC12“Utah is in the big time, and BYU is a relic from
the past WAC era trying to survive is about it.”Unfortunately
for U, the Utes have never really accomplished anything of
significance on a national level...No National ChampionshipsNo
Heisman Trophies No National HOF PlayersNo Davey O’Brien,
Sammy Baugh, Doak Walker, or Outland awardsAnd only TWO 11+ win, Top 15
finishes in your entire history so U continue to use BYU as your
metric of success.
Utes-P12“BYU is a PERFECT FIT for LDS kids that want to date
and get married...”in the temple.Conover has his
priorities well in order.
Most BYU recruits that will attend that school need a date and a spouse ASAP.
Jacob Conover stated that fact in a myriad of interviews. Do you blame that kid?
I hope not! BYU is a PERFECT FIT for LDS kids that want to date and get married
so they can attempt to enjoy life under their/LDS law.
@ FAX,Regardless of what you say, hope for, or dream to be as it
relates to BYU significance in the 21st century........Utah is in the big time,
and BYU is a relic from the past WAC era trying to survive is about it. The
games don't matter anymore, pal.My responses on this article
were based upon wildly-delusional, speculative comments about the U-Y 2019
football game by wanton BYU fans that need their fix of hope. They pray for BYU
every darn day. Is that not true fine sir?
Ute in North Montana “BYU is not of interest to Utah any
longer. If BYU's owners didn't demand that Utah play BYU in any/all
sports, the Y would never be scheduled again”LOL at how
delusional that comment is considering it was made on an article about a BYU QB
that won’t even step onto the field for a live game for 3 or 4 years.
@MesaAZCoug,BYU is not of interest to Utah any longer. If BYU's
owners didn't demand that Utah play BYU in any/all sports, the Y would
never be scheduled again. Utah is freak'n loaded in 2019 pal. Are you ready
for that painful reality yet again? The only factor that I've witnessed in
recent years........Utah football is bored with the BYU game. We Utes are
"bored" with it as well. We'd rather see Utah play teams in top
recruiting areas and LOVE the grueling PAC12 schedule........games that truly
Jacob Conover, a 3-4-star player actually originated from the Hilldale-Colorado
City area obviously. When he was interviewed by two prominent Phoenix area
sports radio stations, he stated that he chose BYU to hopefully, finally date
and find a spouse SOON! BYU is the about the only school that he could pursue
that quest he hopes for. Good luck JC!
@CougFaninTXHere, here! I'm right there with you, buddy. Glad
to see a sensible comment on this board.I'll weigh in on BYU vs
Utah, 2019. Utah has a very talented team, and with the way their last 2 went,
they'll be hungry. I still like BYU's chances. We lost in the 4th
quarter of the last regular season game in 2018 because we don't have
Utah's depth. This coaching staff is working to change that, but it will be
years before we have Utah's current depth, and I don't know when or if
we'll be able to actually close the gap. But this is the first game of the
season, when all our starters are healthy. As are theirs. As I recall, though,
our starters did a pretty decent job last year against their starters, until
they left with injury and the depth took over in the last quarter. With a young
o line that did okay against the stout front 7 of Utah last season, I expect the
off-season to benefit BYU more than Utah in the trenches. Also, Wilson, as
"the guy," will have more snaps in practice and more time dialing into
the receivers than before, which leads to better throws and fewer mistakes for
the Utes to capitalize on. Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I like our
chances in Provo.
Ute-P12"How did BYU look against Michigan in 2015, big hitter?
We thumped them both years in fact."Utah played a very weak
Michigan team on the road in 2014.In 2015, Utah played, at home, a
Michigan team that was breaking in a brand new coaching staff, first game of the
season. In 2015, BYU played a MUCH better Michigan team on the road
that was in the midst of holding 5 straight opponents to a total of 14
points.btw, has is it that beating Michigan by 7 points is
"thumping" them, but Utah losing to Northwestern by 11 points was
considered a close game by Utah fans?
@Aunty Myth,How did BYU look against Michigan in 2015, big hitter?
We thumped them both years in fact. BYU is very old news, like a 4-function
calculator, also an analog era item like Y football and basketball. Buckle-up my
friend, as it will be very quiet yet again @ LES when Utah shows up there in
Kleenex - Gilbert, AZExcuses, excuses, excuses!I'm sorry
your cougs were the "ONLY" team with injuries. At the end of the day,
the only thing that matters...is SCOREBOARD!At least you have a 2019
recruiting class at #79 (24/7 sports) #99 (Rivals). So cheer up!
To me, linking Conover's call to serve a mission to Asuncion, Paraguay
with his ability to "get sports updates from home weekly thanks to a new
policy that allows texts and phone calls" feels like scratching fingernails
on a chalkboard. I don't believe that was the intent of the policy change.
Ute in Canada“We played Michigan in 2014-15 pal. Get ready to
lose the decade yet again.”Hill dropped BYU in 2014-15 because
he didn’t think Utah could handle playing both BYU and Michigan OOC.Michigan 2014 on turned out to be a patsy, 5-7, which led to Brady Hoke
being canned and Utah catching a 2nd break catching Jim Harbaugh in his first
game as unranked Michigan’s head coach.Fortunate timing for
Utah that the Utes didn’t play later Michigan later in the season when the
Wolverines were a Top 15 team.Michigan destroyed #19 Florida 41-7 in
the Citrus Bowl.
@ scenic view,We played Michigan in 2014-15 pal. Get ready to lose
the decade yet again.
@Filter, RustyTH is the real deal, just ask Petros Papadakis.
Utes-PAC12 - “@ all the desperate Y fans...........No matter what
y'all say, you've lost 8 games in a row, would be 9 if the Y faced
Devontae Booker in 2014”It was the Utes who ran away from BYU
in 2014 and 2015.The Utes were simply very fortunate in a series of
razor thin wins.
Wow, the Utes are out in force on this article. Maybe because there
is no news on Utah football. The only article in the DN about Utah football is
about rising prices for tickets. Or maybe it's because U still
love your rivalry with the Coogs. I'm from Colorado and frequently read
news on the Buffs. I can count on one hand the number of Utah posters on Buffs
articles. No rivalry there. The reality is that Conover as a college
QB is unknown. Trying to compare him to Tanner Mangum or Steve Young is unfair.
He's not Mangum or Young, he's Conover. He has a fantastic HS resume
and I'm optimistic his success will translate well to Lavell Edward
Stadium. And while I acknowledge the Utes dominance over the past
decade, there is no denying how competitive most of the games have been. One
player like Wilson or Conover is all it takes to turn a 3 point loss into a 3
point win, and I hope to see a new decade of winning close games by the Coogs.
@ all the desperate Y fans...........No matter what y'all say, you've
lost 8 games in a row, would be 9 if the Y faced Devontae Booker in 2014 and
Utah is freakin' loaded in 2019. You'll lose the entire decade in
August Provo patriots.

judgement comparing Huntley, Shelley and Wilson. It only took Shelley 16 minutes
to destroy your cougs. A comment like yours, is as funny as this
abundance of 4 star QBs byu “frequently” gets! Who won that Utah/Byu
game anyways? Wilson seems like a solid QB, and I wish Utah
would’ve snagged him. If he gets hurt, good luck. With Shelley,
we’ve got much needed experience if Huntley goes down. Not to mention, an
amazing RB in Moss. Utah will be very ready to play come August.
Angry about losing their last two games of the ‘18 season. Could get
really ugly for the cougs, going into loss #9.

Rusty Research:Ummm, you do know both Huntley and Moss will be
seniors next season, right? So your assumption that Huntley transfers is false
and made up. Much like Conover being “the real deal”. Before
he’s even suited up. Utah’s transfer in Cameron Rising is a very
highly rated 4 star QB. But I’ll wait until he takes the field to see what
he can do before claiming anything great about him.You guys REALLY
need to wait until Wilson plays a full season before crowning him the next Jake
Heaps, errrr Tanner Mangum? Oh wait! His last game against the 107th team in the
nation isn’t a good measuring stick. But good stats nonetheless.Still waiting for this “frequently signed 4 star QBs” BlueKoog was

It’s a simple question.

Offer from Alabama? Is Conover crazy? Play for Saban and National Championships
instead of the Potato Bowl. Plus he will be running for his life and will likely
get injured. Tim Tebow said it best about Taysom Hill, "he probably would
have done some great things in college if he played for a better school."
Conover should finish his mission then accept Alabama's offer. Learn from
the best coach ever, win some National championships then enter the NFL. You
think playing football at BYU is special? Go to an Alabama game, there is
nothing more special than that experience. Otherwise he'll get the soup
knocked out of him and never play in the NFL. Someone please talk some since

Um, you mean twice. And now Conover as a 3rd, but he isn't a 4* on every

which panned out.Conover seems like a good one. Not taking anything

I’ll take Wilson and Conover over any QB on Utah’s roster.
I heard someone on the radio say that accuracy is the most important trait for
success as a quarterback. If that really is true, it sounds like Conover has
the necessary tools to be a successful quarterback.
Ute fan here...Size generally matters, but not in all cases.McKenzie Milton is the 5-11/185 QB who led UCF to an undefeated season
2017-18.I wish Bro. Conover the best on his mission. Go
Jacob Conover is the prototype BYU recruit.. He is a clean living, hard
working, great student with great values and great skills. The best part is how
he has his priorities in order. Certainly there are those who focus every thing
on their football careers, but when their playing days are over, they are lost
souls with empty lives, and often times broke and unable to support themselves.
Moreover, to be an NFL player is not the highest thing a person should aspire
to. Great football players are first great people. Just look at Taysom Hill.
He served a mission, was a great, though oft injured college QB who stayed true
to his commitment to BYU, has a wife and children, and earned his degree
(including an internship in finance) and is now earning big bucks playing in the
NFL. But when his playing days are over, he is well situated for a successful
career after football. College football is harder than high school football,
but a mission seems to help players with their maturity and outlook on life.P.S.: I like the fact that he didn't make a media spectacle out of
where he was going to play, but instead made his intentions known early and
stayed with it.
BlueKoog-Provo Bubble, Ut“BYU frequently signs 4-star
QBs”What ever happened to those “4-star” QBs?And please define “frequently”. Mangum and Heaps were 4 and 5
stars weren’t they? How’d they work out?Curious as to
why Conover was recently downgraded to 3 stars on Rivals.
So, BYU becoming a quarterback factory again? Not likely!
I guess, seeing the comments, you haven't watched him play. Elder
Conover, since he is an ordained missionary, is well gifted at QB. Great in the
pocket and roll out. Great at run. All purpose QB.Excellent leader at the
position, else wise he would not have 3 consecutive state Championships.Gunner Romney and Jacob were a great pair. A lot of TDs together.
Gunner's brother is also a QB, great QB, I believe redshirted last year.
Could be a force to recon with at starting position this season. Recruited during Sophomore by D1 colleges, Junior year heavily recruited by
several D1.Before start of Senior, he announced he is serving the Lord as
a Full-time missionary. Announced and gave verbal to BYU. I believe recruiting
pretty much stopped after announcing he was serving a mission for 2 years.
Otherwise, the offers would be through the stadium.I am NOT nor will
I NEVER BE a big fan, little fan, or minor fan of BYU. I am a Fan of Chandler
