This will be great!!!
I support this change and expect most missionaries won’t want to call home
every week. Knowing one has the ability to do so without requesting special
permission or breaking rules is half the battle. It’s a safety valve, a
pressure release valve, and that’s good.
It's fun to see how our son's future mission experience is being
shaped and changed
Wow. Seems a new change is being announced every few days for the LDS Church.
It's a bit startling but great. I like the modernization here and how
things are customized to help more missionaries serve, and to minimize anxiety
- and it is not only anxiety of the missionaries but also for their parents and
loved ones back home. A lot of missionaries have less active or non member
families, so this will be an especially great thing to have regular contact with
their child - and, hopefully, to really benefit from being included in the
fascinating stories and enthusiasm of their missionaries. This is all something
that Senior Missionaries have been able to do for years, so I think it's
great. Another benefit is how much it will help the missionary transition back
into their family and life back home if they have been having so many real-time
conversations throughout the mission. There have been many changes in
just 1 year for the missionary program! Sisters get to wear pants now (finally!
Man that would have been great back when I was serving through two midwest
winters!!!). And now there is an online tool for getting to calculate their
goals and choose when they will serve.
Now instead of being Trunky the last month of your mission, Missionaries can
Trunk Out once a week.I don't like it.I would remind my
son or daughter that it's not mandatory. Throw yourself in to your
mission and forget about home.Letters will do just fine.
For whatever reason, missionaries seem to suffer an increased amount of anxiety
and depression than in the past. The same with college students.Perhaps a weekly call home will be beneficial.
