Apparently both of you don't accept the knowledge that the majority of drugs being smuggled into the United States (some put this number around 90%) come through regular ports of entry. Methamphetamines and heroin are on the rise, cocaine and marijuana have decreased significantly. None comes overland at border carried outside the ports of entry. What may have come across the border outside ports of entry come through by tunnel. Also, with legalization of marijuana in many states, the demand for smuggled marijuana is dropping to zero. There's no profit when the supply is locally available.

You need to find some other defense for Donald Trump's vanity project. I'll give him 55 miles of white picket fence and use border security money to improve the ports of entry, hire more border patrol agents, appoint more immigration judges, allot more money for maintenance of existing fencing, and utilize technology for detection.

Finally, introduce legislation to reduce the demand in this country by treating the drug problem as a health problem rather than a criminal problem.

The trial of El Chapo cataloged the many ways Guzman and his cartel smuggled drugs into the U.S... through sophisticated tunnels, by flying the drugs over the border in planes or through the use of drones, using fishing boats, submarines, and on occassion, even catapults. However, the most common way of sending drugs into the U.S. was by hiding or disguising the drugs in shipments of legitimate products such as bananas, peppers, cooking oil, etc. On just one occasion, 1400 boxes of canned peppers containing hundreds of kilos of cocaine were intercepted at a port of entry. Trucks and cars shipped such cargo through official ports of entry into the U.S. Please explain how Trump's wall would interfere with or prevent any of these practices.

Mad Hatter: "Wouldn't you know that Ted Cruz would come up with another dumb idea to waste money on." I honestly can not understand your thinking. There is an old saying: "An ounce of PREVENTION is worth a pound of cure."
The idea of the wall (among other things) is to PREVENT future drug addictions by reducing the supply of drugs flowing almost unimpeded across our southern border. If we accept your logic, we should not waste money on prevention of diseases, just build more hospitals? Wow! To most rational thinkers, that is silly and irrational.
By the way, what better way for El Chapo to pay for the suffering and death he caused than to use his immorally obtained money to prevent more suffering? El Chapo is just one more reason we must build the wall, to make it much more difficult for the next El Chapo to succeed. Where is your compassion for El Chapo's victims? Swallowed up in your hatred for President Trump!
    ------------
You are speaking rational and logical. How dare you! You know that has no meaning to our Liberal friends.

What is it about the President that demands the likes of Senators Graham and Cruz to grovel at his feet? Does he have some magic powers? Does he have 'dirt' on them?

I am no fan of Senator Cruz, who barely won his re-election in blood red Texas a few months ago. However, he was usually stalwart in his beliefs. He took a beating in the 2016 primaries from Trump with all manner of insults leveled at him and his family.

Why is so now trying to 'fix' a problem for Trump. Indeed, fix a 'problem' that most Texans don't see as much of a problem.

It is just too hard to figure out.

The funds should be used to reunite the children separated from their families at the southern border by U.S. officials at the behest of Trump and Sessions.

Now that there's alternative sources of money the left is coming up with brand new complaints for why the wall shouldn't be built. I sure wish they'd be honest and just admit they want open borders. And be honest about why too. Not for compassion. But to flood the country with people who will help put more Democrats in power. It's like the left hand forcing the right hand into a meat grinder so it can be the only hand to grab ahold of things.

"Wow! What wonderful irony! A Mexican drug lord paying for the wall! What could be better?"

Wouldn't you know that Ted Cruz would come up with another dumb idea to waste money on. Doesn't he get tired of licking Donald Trump's shoes? With so many other things needing attention, he wants to allocate resources for the vanity project.

However, we'll have to see what the legal ramifications are with this suggestion. There are better people than I who have good ideas like helping victims of and nations depleted by the drug wars. And, of course, improving the technology at the ports of entry and cybersecurity.

It'll never happen. It makes too much sense.

Here's another one. Tax remittances at 15% and use the $3 billion/year to hire more Border Patrol agents and open more detention beds.

If there is actually any El Chapo money that the US taxpayers will get, it should pay for the things you've already spent. Cruz and the GOP have been borrowing money at an unprecedented rate to fund tax cuts for the wealthy and enriching defense contractors. Meanwhile, they're starting to tell us they need to cut social security and medicare payments we've been funding for years.

Great idea, Senator Cruz. Pay no attention to the naysayers who counsel you to hold a grudge. After the Green New Deal, leftists are in no position to accuse anyone of being "disconnected from humanity."

No Ted, we know you want to help Donald save face, why I'll never understand.

The fact that Donald called you names, you can ignore, but when he called your wife names that would have elicited a pop in the nose by any loving husband, tells me what a coward and sycophant of Donald you truly are.

Lets use the money to help addicts get better, sick get healthier, poor find their footing.

Using that money for nothing more than a tribute to one mans ego, is sickening and shows how disconnected you are from humanity.
