Is it too soon to talk about National Championship possibilities for BYU? When I hear that gibbering heat up, I know it's almost football season.

“To paraphrase Tim Tebow and his comments on Taysom Hill, imagine how special Wilson would be if he'd gone to a better school.”

I don’t have to imagine. I watched the spud bowl. I know how special he is.

wookie...perhaps if you know any of the Ute players you might ask them if they care about the game with the Y. Ask Chase Hansen. He's done and will give you a straight up answer. Ask Coach Whit. The answers will enlighten you.

And for those who feel Wilson (or Taysom) would be better off at another school, your conclusion is based upon what Tebow had to say. Tebow is not exactly an expert on such things. His comment was border-line ignorant. But he did manage to give a few (very few) Ute fans something to chirp about. As for Wilson, let's wait a couple of years and see how he does. He is playing with a team that lacks the depth of schools in the PAC, at least beyond the first stringers, but I think the team will do okay next year.

To all of the players in our state, stay healthy, get a good education and enjoy the ride. And unlike a few (again, very few) who choose to vent on these threads, always respect your opponent.

Then you must have skipped the last few paragraphs. Nearly every DNews coog article references the Utes in some fashion.

Looking forward to see what the other QB’s can do. Great opportunity for them. It was so fun to see Zach play and wish him a speedy and complete recovery. His play reminds me of the several great QB’s we have had. Glad the Utes were so into themselves and didn’t bother to recruit him because Zach would have signed since he was a Ute fan for several years. Sometimes you can’t see the forest because the trees are in the way. Zach will beat the Utes in his career beginning this year. Go Cougs!

Wow, it is so weird all these Ute fans care so much about BYU articles. Like other commenters have said, 9 out of 10 articles about the Utes I don't even bother reading.

Why do Ute fans care so much about BYU still even though BYU is not even in the same conference?

A question for Freud I guess, Oedipus complex?

With a recruiting class ranked #100 by Rivals. they should be able to compete for the national championship next year.

    Reality check.

The BYU Utah game is the super bowl for BYU. It is just another game for Utah with as much meaning now as playing Weber State. An instate foe that plays their heart out only to be deflated for almost a decade straight.

Look how the recruits are lining up for Utah now. For those who think Utah is an after thought in the PAC, don’t tell that to recruits that chose Utah over other P5 programs, including the PAC.

Reality is that the programs are growing apart. Wilson is a good qb but the talent and depth is lacking and falling behind Utah.

I hope this fall Utah can show what speed and size and depth looks like when they really want to win. I just don’t know if the U cares about the game the same way they used to when they were utterly dominated by the Y.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Wilson.

Then who is this, your evil twin?

I'm happy to comment again on this topic. Utah cannot be a really good team unless Kyle lets an OC actually develop an offense.

Perhaps this is why we didn't see a very complex passing game most of the season. Seems they were aware of Wilson's shoulder problem and might have been "saving" him so to speak. Hopefully, we will see an all air air attack next year.

I have to agree with you on your comment on a balanced offense. Grimes has a vision of being like Wisconsin, big bruising offensive line with smash mouth running backs. Unfortunately we don't have big bruising running backs. We seem to be saddled with backs that are hurt a lot with no depth in sight. I'm still mystified that Sitake and Grimes haven't gone back to the BYU day's of old. Just throw the ball more, if it opens the running game so be it!

Why? I don't care what they do until they get beaten by Washington (I watch that game), and the BYU game. Live on in the silence, Utes. The rest of the PAC barely notices U. Sad.

“Yes, you won those games... but if Utah was as good as you think they are, then the score differential would be a lot higher than 5.5. In other words, you really do not have any rights to brag...”

Are you seriously applauding margin of defeat moral victories? LOL

8-0 & counting absolutely warrants bragging rights, although it was against an inferior midmajor, which likely means we never lose to byu ever again.

Our Coach KW said we’d never lose to byu ever again after mh’s ‘09 rant so long as he was @ the helm.....He’s kept his word—8 straight & counting.

    Complete & utter dominance, period.

Uteology - "He's not even the 3rd best QB in the State."

Well, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF) you are mistaken.... For your information this group provides information to the NFL on College football players....

Zack Wilson was a "True" freshman last year, he had to learn a new system, playbook, the difference speed between the college level and the high school level.

Granted your Sophomore QB Huntley was hurt, so we really don't know how that would turn out, but your redshirt freshman ( year experience) Shelley still almost lost to those lowly cougars this past year. If was not for the rookie mistake Zac made the end of the game, who would know how the game went.

Now go back and look at the last four years of games...
    2018 - 35-27
2017 - 19-13 (this was our worst year EVER!)
    2016 -20-19
    2015 35-28

Yes, you won those games... but if Utah was as good as you think they are, then the score differential would be a lot higher than 5.5. In other words, you really do not have any rights to brag...

As for USU QB, since Zac played very little in that game, we really do not have a way to compare do we?

He's not even the 3rd best QB in the State.

What did Wilson do last November besides go 2-2, only wins against #138 and #166 at LES.

So what I get from this story is the fact that the BYU coaches didn't learn a thing from the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl about how much more potent and productive the passing game can be. In fact, the article states that in the bowl game "they finally got their run game going". The run game became effective only as a result of the passing game. I suppose that while that is obvious to most of us, the coaches will doggedly pursue their less than effective run game. In the bowl game, BYU averaged over 18 yards per passing play to only four yards per running play. They passed the ball just nineteen times, and ran the ball thirty three times. That is NOT a "balanced" offense, and certainly not as high powered as it has the potential to be. I get that they (the coaches) think a running game is all about ball control and time of possession, but it sure lacks imagination, and it certainly doesn't produce as many wins as they are capable of. If they game plan to run the ball against Utah, then Utah will have another victory under their belts to start the 2019 season.

Really squeezing as much blood as you can out of that turnip. An article about spring football is mostly devoted to recapping a game from 49 days ago. Pity the fan looking for anything new. Still, a great accomplishment that will live forever in lore. We all still affectionately refer to Jake Heaps as "2010 New Mexico MVP". Good times. Good times.
