    The "New Green Deal" should serve as a Major wake up call to all rational voters. With Leadership in the Democratic party like Pelosi and Cortez it can only damage their voter base come election time.

    Frozen
    No, obamacare does not pay for itself, and the costs were twice what they anticipated.

    When trump was elected, mccain betrayed us all and voted against the repeal, otherwise we’d be rid of this monstrosity! They did, thankfully eliminate the mandate.

    This article has 24 comments, and as David points out, none of our liberal friends have spoken in favor. sure, frozen has defended obamacare and attacked the GOP; but even he/she says it rambles and tries to be too many things.

    The country should just ignore OC and her diatribes, either that or keep ridiculing them like they deserve.

    Every Democrat party candidate for president has, I believe, endorsed this plan. So this is official Democrat party policy now--destroy America in less than 10 years.

    It's nothing short of breathtaking, really--not even Lenin tried to do what the left is now proposing. Lenin didn't want to kill all the cows, for instance. Nor did he want to tear down every building in America. Can you imagine the environmental impact of replacing every building in the US alone? What a "Green" bill!

    Our leftists must be so proud of their party.

    You know how House Republicans voted dozens of times to repeal the ACA? And of course it didn't go anywhere at the time because Obama was president.

    Then when they finally took over, they realized they didn't have a plan. It was just symbolic votes for something that'd never become law so they weren't ever held responsible for voting on really terrible things. Until they had power, had to craft a serious plan, and then fell on their faces. Why didn't they just pass one of their dozens of other bills? Because they would've looked really bad if they became law. They'd have been a total mess.

    That's what this Green New Deal reminds me of, albeit in non-binding resolution just asserting priorities form. It's got so many pieces to it, some of which have absolutely nothing to do with the environment and climate change, that if this were a real bill and were to pass it'd collapse in on itself. But it's not a bill and it'd never be signed anyway, so who cares?

    If you want to repeal the ACA, then make a real legitimate bill, if you want a Green New Deal then craft a focused substantial piece of policy, enough with these gimmicks.

    The “truth” of the so called Green Deal!

    1. No airline travel in 10 years.

    2. No gas cars or trucks in 10 years.

    3. No Natural gas to heat your homes with in 10 years.

    4. No oil or coal production in 10 years.

    5. Ninety percent (90%), taxation to pay for solar, wind and water electricity.

    6. Free health care, free food.

    7. A paid wage for all that do not work.

    8. Free college for all.

    9. A fast train system for the entire US, Amtrak on steroids.

    Now I ask you to do some additional research and look into what are their stands on open borders or border security, abortion in late term and even post term? Defense, crime, prisons, drugs, the 2nd admendment.

    I failed to read any support of this article from our Liberal friends. Will they appear to speak in favor of the green new deal?

    This new deal will speed up the bankrupting of our nation. Some will become very wealthy, but the majority of people will suffer. Meanwhile, the real polluters (China, other developing nations) will continue unabated.

    Rational people are not surprised by this at all. Democrats are always trying to spend other people's money and control other people's lives! And, they tell us its for our own good because they are smarter than us?

    If you ride the bus our carbon footprint is not Zero. She said she wants to make it Zero.

    I know you were just saying that in jest, but seriously... Zero? She said she want's America to be 100% carbon free by 2030. That's a little over 10 years. No way it's possible. She's got her head in the clouds. But it gets them elected. So...

    ===

    RE: "Only the dem elites will have access to personal transportation"...
    ---
    I'm pretty sure she will propose making a "People's Car". Like they did in Nazi Germany, and USSR. A little box like the VW Bug the people can run around in, and afford. Except the new "People's Car" will be a Tesla (I hope).

    And you are right. The political class will not drive VW Bugs (like in Germany). They will have big nice cars. But use no fossil fuels I presume.

    ===

    I don't know if the people will like it. There were some people who didn't like it in Germany. Thus the Concentration Camps, AKA Re-education camps for people who didn't like it, and dared say so.

    We will need something similar here for sure.

    This bill really drifts all over the place. It calls for a jobs guarantee program, dramatically expands unions, calls for universal healthcare... just be a climate bill. Not that republicans will care anyway but if you want to be taken seriously by the average American, have the bill actually stay on topic.

    "Didn't stop them from voting for the ACA without knowing what's in it or how much it would cost the tax payers."

    They were working on that bill for months, they knew what was in it and the bill paid for itself with its fees and taxes. That oft-quoted Pelosi line was not a suggestion that nobody knows what is in the bill, but that we'd understand it better once we see its' effects firsthand.

    Gotta love the AP: "While setting lofty goals, the plan does not explicitly call for eliminating the use of fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas, a nod to pragmatism that may disappoint some of Ocasio-Cortez's strongest supporters."

    Right. The problem with the Green New Deal is that it doesn't go far enough.

    Democrats (and their propaganda arm) have become caricatures of themselves.

    RE: "Government can take an equity stake in Green New Deal projects "so the public gets a return on its investment," she said"...
    ---
    Like the return on investment we got from the Obama Solar Company (AKA Solyndra). Google it if you don't remember.

    Read "Solyndra Scandal: 8 Facts About Barack Obama's Green Energy Company Controversy"...
    ---
    "In 2009, the California-based company (Wonder which Senator's idea this was)... Solyndra received a $535 million loan"...

    "In August of 2011, The Washington Post reported that Solyndra shut down, "leaving 1,100 people out of work and taxpayers obligated for $535 million in federal loans"...

    I wonder if there would be any other problems like this, if we tried it again?

    Oh no... just wonderful jobs and prosperity from Government owned companies, right?

    Like I said, wonder if anybody in Cuba or Venezuela ever heard this pitch before. Now the average wage in Cuba is $25/month, and Venezuela's inflation rate just hit 1,000,000 percent (to pay for all their Socialist leader's promises).

    Yah... I want that. I really really want that.

    The good news is... it would never pass in Congress. There aren't enough Socialists out there, yet.

    Dems seek green new deal

    Dems seek to drive the nation further into bankruptcy is more like it.

    OC says it will create unprecedented levels of prosperity and wealth. She also espoused a 70% top tax rate, so we know how out-of-touch with reality she and her plans are.

    Block new nuclear plants – again, this shows just how out of touch with reality she is if she really wants to end fossil fuel use.

    Bank-bailouts? The commercial banks repaid every dollar the treasury invested in them, with interest.

    Why doesn’t she just announce that we are investing in every human on the planet being able to grow wings and fly – that would be just as reasonable.

    2 bits
    You’re not supposed to get a new car – you have to take the bus or walk. Only the dem elites will have access to personal transportation – armored gas burning fossil fuels

    Where's electricity going to come from?

    Wind and solar are not constant. Our need for electricity is constant (wind/no wind, day/night).

    It would curl her toes if she knew how we get all the stuff to manufacture the batteries for her Tesla.

    ===

    RE: "and create thousands of jobs in renewable energy"...
    ---
    I'll bet there's not anybody reading this who's job would not be impacted, if not completely gone if she got her way.

    I don't think she could create jobs as fast as they would be destroyed by her plan.

    I like my job. I want to keep my job. I don't want to start at the bottom of one of her new "renewable energy jobs" at 60.

    ===

    RE: "the plan will create "unprecedented levels of prosperity and wealth for all while ensuring economic and environmental justice and security"...

    Pelosi said Thursday she hadn't seen the Green New Deal proposal but welcomes "the enthusiasm" of its backers. "I welcome the Green New Deal and any other proposals" to address climate change, Pelosi said.

    It reminds of another situation regarding Pelosi. "Let's pass it so we can see what's in it." Or something to that effect.

    RE: "The plan, which aims to eliminate the U.S. carbon footprint by 2030"...
    ---
    Does that mean we all have to buy new cars by 2030? That's just 11 years away you know. Some people (some of them Democrat constituents) can't afford a new car today, much less a new Tesla.

    Have you priced a new Tesla? They're pretty pricey. I surely can't afford one, and I'm middle-class. Not something a person with a limited income could really afford to buy, much less the Solar Panels that would be required for them to fuel the car without the power grid, to have Zero carbon footprint as she demands.

    ===

    RE: "Several Democratic presidential hopefuls have embraced the idea of a Green New Deal without saying exactly what it means"...
    ---
    Why do they need to know what it means?

    Didn't stop them from voting for the ACA without knowing what's in it or how much it would cost the tax payers.

    ===

    RE: "A joint resolution drafted by Ocasio-Cortez and Markey sets a goal to meet "100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable and zero-emission energy sources"...

    Thankfully Democrats have not been able to ban fossil fuels, the only thing keeping millions of Americans from freezing to death! The real issue here is that the human race is not going to give up fossil fuels and live in caves because we can't, it’s simply not possible! People will never give up affordable food, medicines, clothing and shelter, all dependent upon fossil fuels! Sorry Democrats, it isn't going to happen!
