To "Anti-Trump " unfortunately she has a lot of skeletons hiding in her closet, just like Hillary. She also has the same likability ratings as Clinton. If she represents the best that the Democrats are going to run in the next election it will probably end up with Trump's second term.

@Mackenzie Iwamoto: "How else do you explain the hostility between Germany and the Soviet Union when you say they shared the same political system? The same can be said for China and the Soviet Union."
That is very simple. I didn't say they shared *the same* political system. I said they shared *socialism*.
Just as the Sunnis fight the Shias, and they all persecute the B'Hai and the Sufis, even though they are all "Islam", various sects of fanatical socialism think that their version is "true" while the others are "corrupt" or "too radical".
Socialism-Communism was originally envisioned as a world-wide, international revolution against the ruling class. But the Nazis observed that even peasants were still usually loyal to their nation they decided that socialism must first make the transitions inside each nation, before working as an international movement. Hence "National Socialism". This put the National Socialists in ideological conflict with the International Socialists, who believed it could only succeed if national boundaries were eliminated. (forming a Soviet "union").

Thid, here is the success of the Republican party....

The 10 states receiving the most in federal aid as a percentage of their general revenue, in order, were:

Mississippi, 42.9% federal aid as percentage of general revenue
    Louisiana, 41.9%
    Tennessee, 39.5%
    South Dakota, 39.0%
    Missouri, 38.2%
    Montana, 37.4%
    Georgia, 37.3%
    New Mexico, 36.6%
    Alabama, 36.1%
    Maine, 35.3%

I can’t wait for all the Democratic candidates to come out & announce they are running. When we get the 20~30 candidates to pick through, then we can weed them down to the one we need. It will also be fun to watch all those that made fun of the 20~30 Republican candidates in 2016, eat their ‘Crow’ or ‘Humble Pie’ ... but I believe they will never admit that they did poke fun at it!

Pride, hubris, pomposity ... call it what you wish, it still slaps you in the face!

Trump has shown far more restraint and respect for the constitution than his "pen and phone" predecessor. Trump has a strong personality, to be sure, but that comes with the territory in politics. Ironically, it is socialism with the all powerful government telling the people how to live their lives, what they can say, believe, do for work, etc., where you run into problems with tyrants and dictators--or at least that is what history teaches us. Socialism takes an all powerful approach with a strong leader willing to issue the ultimate command to imprison and/or take the lives of those unwilling to conform. It is scary that Democrats continue to move further and further down the socialism scale, with Kamala Harris right there in the mix.

I would certainly entertain voting for a centrist, moderate, sensible Democrat. Joe Lieberman would very likely get my vote. But the Democrats kicked him out. Even Joe Biden might force me to think carefully about how to vote.

But I cannot vote for anyone who so openly hateful toward religion as Sen. Harris has proven herself to be with her openly anti-Catholic comments, questions, and demands of judicial appointments. Knights of Columbus is a mainstream, fraternal service organization. Opposition to legal benefits for homosexual marriage is not an extreme position as the clear majority of voters in 31 States--every single State where voters were allowed to vote on the matter--voted to retain "one man, one woman" as the legal definition of marriage. That includes Harris' home State of California. She would disqualify from all public service, well over half the voters in her own State by labeling honest and legitimate public policy disagreement as some kind of hate crime.

That the mainstream Democrat party considers her credible is at least as bad as if the GOP were to do anything but recoil in horror at the thought of Rep. King running for nationwide office.

"...she is for increased government spending to stimulate economic growth."

Well middle of the road, that is a liberal, socialist agenda. From where is she going to get the funds for this "increased spending" if not out of your and my pocket? And what if the increased spending doesn't stimulate growth? Have you forgotten all the "shovel-ready jobs" the Obama administration promised that never came to fruition? People better know what to do with their money than the government does. It's always been that way. Is she going to solve the health care crisis in the country, or merely throw more money at it, like education lobbyists insist is the fix for all their issues? Look out for anyone that wants to solve problems with money because it is NEVER their money they so willingly spend. " . . . Democrats continue to promote socialism. I guess they believe that . . . "

And then you list various strongman, authoritarian dictators of the past. We have they same types today which Donald Trump and his supporters admire which make us believe that they would have liked these same despots if they were around then. A tough guy running his country with an iron fist. Isn't that what Trump likes about Vladimir Putin, Rodrigo Duterte, Kim Jong Un, and Mohammed bin Salman? And isn't that what Trump would like to do here?

As for your understanding of history, the ideology of socialism gets cast aside when a strongman emerges to run a nation. It's no more socialist or anything when a demagogue moves in and exerts authority to have things his way. Germany was no more socialist with Hitler than the Soviet Union under Stalin or China under Mao. They used these political ideologies to accumulate power and then discarded the ideals in order to consolidate power. How else do you explain the hostility between Germany and the Soviet Union when you say they shared the same political system? The same can be said for China and the Soviet Union.

"Why do so many on this board feel Ms. Harris is a leftist or a socialist? Can you point directly to any policy or statement she made to that fact?"

She's a Democrat. They don't need any other reason to demonize her. Their tribe is opposed to all Democrats regardless if they are conservative, moderate, progressive, or fringe. The name of the game is to oppose all Democrats however they can. There doesn't have to be any logic in their argument or substance in their position. It's like street gangs, if you're not part of them, then you're to be hated and despised as the great evil. Bloods and Crips. Red and Blue. Doesn't matter.

If you want a thoughtful discussion of the merits of one candidate to another, you won't find it here. We live in a highly partisan world where political affiliation determines whether you're friend or foe. That's what you're seeing when commenters refer to Kamala Harris as a socialist. She is left of them and that's enough categorize her. As for being a socialist, they think socialist is equivalent to be to the political left of their particular reactionary worldview. No difference.

I went to votesmart.org to see what her stated positions were.

She is pro-choice, against mandatory minimums in criminal sentencing, she is for cutting taxes as a way to stimulate economic growth, she is for regulating greenhouse emissions, she is for increased government spending to stimulate economic growth.

I did not see anywhere in there that she is a socialist. I get that many conservative GOP voters may not align with what she is for, but that doesn't make her a leftist or socialist. She is not calling for government take over of the means of energy production, telecommunications, food production, etc...

She would be considered liberal on some if not most social issues. So are many Americans nowadays.

Hate to say it but with the powerful special interest crowd who have been around for a very long time and are still alive at this time, this country is not yet ready for a woman to be POTUS. Maybe in 10 years, but not right now while the boys' club is still very much alive and well. They will say that they support women's rights and let them be in minor roles in the political arena but when it comes to access to the ultimate POTUS power, they are afraid to lose control to that.

Harris is a good, qualified and competent candidate, and infinitely better than what we're stuck with now (the same could also be said about any of the Democrats in the race).

I am hoping that good Republican candidates will soon enter the race. I keep hoping that there will be someone like Kasich or Flake who would be good presidential material, and would be people that I could back. We need LEGALLY to remove trump from office (at the ballot box if not sooner) and I'm hoping there will be an acceptable Republican to take up the party position in the 2020 election. We've suffered enough with the RINOs (the far right extreme authoritarians) -- we need to get back to nominating real Republicans for office.

"Democrats have run Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago and other cities for decades and these cities are poverty and crime centers! "

Chicago isn't even in the top ten cities for violent crime. While Detroit and Baltimore are in the top 10, you conveniently skip the 'red' cities also in the top ten, like St. Louis as the number 1 most violent. Or Memphis, Kansas City, Little Rock, all in strong Republican states. (per FBI data)

On poverty, 7 of the top 10 cities with the highest poverty rate are in solidly red states. 4 in Texas, 1 in Arkansas, 1 in Georgia, 1 in Louisiana. (per US Census Bureau)

"President Trump has solved more poverty than any Democrat ever did!"

Largest drop in poverty rate during Obama presidency: 1.3%
Largest drop in poverty rate during Trump presidency: .4%
    (per US Census Bureau)

Actual data refutes every claim you made.

Ah, the trolls are out. Fox News and Breitbart talking points critical of Kamala Harris are running at full mode. The information provided is typically low (do we expect more from these sources?) and the tribal warriors are flinging their spears at anything that moves outside of their reactionary ideological caves.

Too bad the discussion never rises above the banks of the swamp, but then this is expected from the wingnut fringe. We have come to expect this type of dialog dysentery in the political sphere of Red versus Blue. This is particularly true when those attacking Harris think anything more politically to the Left than themselves are intolerable and subhuman. So much for moderate Republicans! They get tossed into the same pool with the most extreme Leftie way out on that fringe.

To these people, any Democrat or Independent who does think as they do is beyond meaningful discussion. It's a lack of critical thinking skills that makes such small-minded comments the mainstay of conservative thought today. Where is William F. Buckley when we need reasonable talk from the Right? Instead we get juvenile trolls hurling epithets and anger in defense of their Dear Leader.

I live outside of Chicago and totally agree. Chicago has always been a one party (Democratic) totalitarian regime. As a result Chicago leads the nation of residents fleeing to other states. I'll say this now: if the Democrats nominate Senator Harris as their presidential nominee, they will be routed in the general election by a tally larger than the Reagan win in 1984...and it wouldn't matter who the Republicans have as a nominee.

A lot of people in the midwest and in battleground states, whether it's warranted or not, have a negative view of Democrats from California. They see the problems that California has had and they point to the fact that the Democrats have been in charge during many of them. There is also the 'line of thought' of "We don't like being told what to do or how to live by people on the east or west coast".

Combine both of those views and thoughts together and Trump (or whomever is the Republican nominee is) gets elected in a landslide. A Democrat may win in 2020, but it will not be one from California.

The Democrats took the lead on the war on poverty. One important part of the fight against poverty was (past tense here) to reduce out of wedlock births. Traditional marriage was society's way to say that men should be responsible for their procreative actions. As such it was a powerful tool to fight poverty.

When she was the California AG Kamala Harris would not defend the state of California against lawsuits against Prop 8. It was her job and she wouldn't do it.

So, the big question for Kamala Harris is, 'How are you going to combat out of wedlock births so that we can reduce the poverty rate in America?" Assuming of course, that the Democrats are still interested in fighting poverty.
