UTe60 - "Can this poster tell us why we can not support health care for our citizens? Why did trump, Romney, Koch Brothers, and other get all of that money back that could have gone to help middle class and poor citizens of our country? Billions and Billions in that free give away! "

how is this relevant to the State of Utah and the Medicaid issue (original letter is about)?
Trump and Koch brothers does not live in Utah, and Romney retired and moved to Utah.

Medicaid which is run by the State (with some federal funding added in). How what happens in Washington DC affect our state run Medicaid?

second, When Obama was in office, he pushed through the ACA.. which is giving insurance to the uninsured... Which to some was a good idea. Personally I have a daughter that benefited from it and a son that was penalized by it. So I see both sides....

Yet, Obama did very little "helping the poor", homelessness increased during his tenure, he spent billions on Foreign aid to countries who actually hate us. He also allowed the "Rich" to get Richer..

You see the issue is not just the GOP, it also includes the democrats.

To "Utefan60" by refusing the money for Medicaid expansion, the state has avoided having to raise taxes. They also have seen what has happened in other states when they expanded Medicaid, and want to avoid those problems too.

Yes it sounds like a good idea, but when you look at the problems it causes it is a wise person that avoids expanding medicaid.

"The job of a legislator is to do what is best for the "majority" of his constituents or what is best for the State as a whole.
Not what is best for an individual person. Life is more complex than what just what you see as important."

Interesting comment but not exactly accurate. If only the GOP could follow that reasoning.

The GOP has decried the expansion of Medicaid, yet they have given a $trillion back of our taxes to the ultra rich and Corporations. Can this poster tell us why we can not support health care for our citizens? Why did trump, Romney, Koch Brothers, and other get all of that money back that could have gone to help middle class and poor citizens of our country? Billions and Billions in that free give away!

We are not a well run State when thousands of our citizens have no health care. Several people have died in Utah due to lack of health care. That was reported in this paper. It is a crime when the GOP gives money to the rich and steals from the poor. Not exactly what was taught in the Bible.

LetterWriter... Two issues with your comments....

    1. In the State of Utah, there is a law that was passed that allowed them to change any referendum created by the citizens. You may not like it, but it according to the law.

    2. The job of a legislator is to do what is best for the "majority" of his constituents or what is best for the State as a whole.
Not what is best for an individual person. Life is more complex than what just what you see as important.

for example, many people want to increase medicaid.... well to increase medicaid you need more money... where is that "More money" coming from? You raise taxes, guess what individual constituents will be made their taxes have increased, which also includes those on limited income.

Utah is a well run state, despite Utah's elected officials.

    Who ignore their constituents.

Move the Prison despite the costs.

Pass message bills which cost millions only to be lost because they are unconstitutional.

Think public lands should be sold to their developer friends and family.

Believe Coal is the energy of the future.

Believe the dominant church is an invisible branch of the state government, and routinely check with them (unofficially of course) before moving forward on most bills.

They love the paternal relationship they have with their constituents, or they want to be your dad, cause they know better.

Nope, it's despite their weird governing.

To "Thomas Jefferson" ironically, Utah is often named one of the best run states in the US. Why would we want to vote for people that are oppose the policies that have made Utah a well run state?

People voted for trump because he promised affordable health care for all, tax cuts for the hardest working people, etc etc and delivered NONE of it.

This is what you get with one party rule. Simplistic thinking and "I can do whatever I want" legislation.

ALL politicians need to think their reelection is tenuous all the time.

Regardless of party, people should vote for things that are truly in the long term best interest of our state, not just their personal agenda which may not be.
