The ridiculous part is if they could just go back to work and do their jobs they wouldn't need to tap into these benefits people need that literally do not have a job. In the meantime, Melania and Barron fly off on vacation at the taxpayers expense. Jared and Ivanka went on vacation at taxpayers expense during the shutdown as did Nancy Pelosi. We do not need these entitled people in Washington that have no regard for regular, hardworking Americans.

"Federal workers get to experience what workers in the private sector, whose tax dollars go to pay their wages, deal with regularly."

What, companies breaking laws by not paying their workers? Closing a plant and shipping jobs overseas isn't a comparison either because the federal workers still have their jobs.

"Where is the empathy for their plight?"

People who hear about others losing jobs feel bad about the people losing their jobs. It's just less known in the news because it's not in the form of 800,000 people being furloughed or working without pay because the President is having a conniption.

" Why the opposition to border security?"
as has been explained numerous times, on numerous threads before there is no opposition to border security there is however substantial ( in congress and the general public) opposition to the wall and no matter how hard you try you can not make the two synonymous.

Federal workers get to experience what workers in the private sector, whose tax dollars go to pay their wages, deal with regularly. Especially when govt. regulations mandate increased expenditures on small businesses, causing them to have to let people go. Where is the empathy for their plight?
When funding for the wall is approved the shutdown will end and federal employees will receive the promised back pay. The money to fund construction of a border wall is a fraction of the tax money approved by congress as foreign aid that is sent to other countries. Why the opposition to border security? Congress, do your job.

And the burden to compensate employees of the federal government is tossed to the states.

Federalism was never intended to be a way to pay the national bills nor satisfy the fancy of a would be autocrat.
