    This is a result of liberal packing of the federal bench under Obama. This bad decision will be reversed by the SCOTUS when it gets there, just like the travel ban. It is bordering on insanity to think a country cannot enumerate its citizens.
    ---

    The census conducted for determining the number of Representatives in Congress, is not based on 'citizenship'. The text of the Constitution clearly states:

    ---
    Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States... according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.
    ---

    There is no 'citizen' qualifier, and of course the 3/5ths count of 'all other Persons', was to include slaves, who not only could not vote, where not really considered 'citizens' with any rights, but rather private property.

    The Congress could create a law and allocate a budget to determine the question of how many citizens, legal and illegal aliens who are resident, but that's not what this census is about.

    @Impartial 7

    Thankfully, Donald Trump is not an NFL quarterback.

    However, he is the best and most effective President we have had in many, many moons.

    The wording of the article did not say whether the immigrants were legal or illegal. Big difference.

    For the comments from Impartial7 (NOT) and LDS Liberal - This is a result of liberal packing of the federal bench under Obama. This bad decision will be reversed by the SCOTUS when it gets there, just like the travel ban. It is bordering on insanity to think a country cannot enumerate its citizens.

    The practice of your 'resistance' is to challenge everything the Trump administration does with a lawsuit and do judge shopping to get the short-term result you seek. The outcomem is what is intended, to delay implementation until finally ruled against by higher courts. This is a very sound strategy for making the US federal government ineffective. Good for the Democrat party; bad for the country. That is evidently what you folks want. . .

    Manipulating voting representation, to discourage participation in the 2020 census, to set-up an undercount of non-citizens, was Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross' objective with the citizenship question - according to judge Furman.

    The decennial census is not an immigration enforcement tool, it was never intended to be, and because of voluntary compliance, it would never work in that capacity.

    The Trump administration losing these lower case rulings says nothing to the actual merit of the cases. In nearly every such case the political views of the judge making the ruling has been obvious in the ruling. These states know how to shop their cases around to find a judge who will rule how they want.

    The question is how does it play out once it hits the Supreme Court. Ross's reasoning for restoring the question asked for most of the history of the census is sound. The judge's comment that his reasoning is only used to hide his real but unknown purpose shows this to be judicial activism. If you can't cite any evidence of this alleged "real purpose" then the reason given is the purpose.

    We kneed to know who is here legally, both as a resident and a citizen. And who is here illegally. The Census does not report specific results of any questionaire to any other agency, only combined anonymized statistics and numbers. It needs this info and hopefully the SCOTUS will rush a response and overturn this very poor decision.

    They should be able to ask the question. We have a right as a country to know who is in our country. Let people come through the front door. Get rid of sanctuary cities.
