    @Follow:

You can't actually be serious, right?
Teacher strikes in 2018: West Virginia, Oklahoma, Arizona, Kentucky and North Carolina. Want to guess the political leanings in those states?

I won't bother to list the mass shootings in the United States in 2018 (hint: there are a lot of them). Guess what, they occur in both red and blue political areas.

In Utah? Last week we tragically lost an officer in Provo - not exactly a liberal bastion.

Don't trivialize these types of matters with thin logic, please.

    Weekend summary:
28 Utah counties are Republican majority -
    0 reported shot,
    0 reported murdered by gun,
    0 reported kidnapped and robbed.

1 Utah county (SL) is Democrat majority,
    3 reported shot,
    1 murdered by gun,
    4 reported kidnapped and robbed.

Other stories: Los Angeles teachers on strike, 600,000 students left with no teachers. County is democrat run. 32 shot in democrat run Chicago so far this year.

    See the trend yet?

Um, I think the politician got it wrong. If the announcement was to evacuate the mall, it should be ignored! You want to take cover, as the girl in the kiosk did. Evacuation could get you killed.

Crowd control in an evacuation is also a problem.

Running away IS an option if you are smart, but unless you know where the shooter is, you are exposed when you run.

About gang association: Good legislation is possibly following RICO laws. Confidence level with Utah politicians is low. Confidence level in enforcement agencies is a mixed bag.

"My opinion is that state legislatures should pass laws making gang membership, in and of itself, a felony."

Unfortunately, that would be a blatant violation of the freedom of association, so I'm pretty sure that's a no-go.

    @utahute69...

You posted your comment 3 hours after I posted mine. The news article did include the weapons comment, and it did include the suspects running towards the neighborhoods east of the mall at the time I posted my comment. They update news articles as more information becomes available. However, I did leave off "semi" to the word automatic, and that was an error.

Additionally, I have a family member who lives in a neighborhood east of the mall. They were told by authorities to remain in their homes due to the danger until they either had more information, or until the suspects were apprehended. They were told at the time that a witness had told the police the suspects at semi-automatic weapons.

Good old Sacred Amendment, making life bliss for police and public.

The idea that gang-related shootings are "not a threat to the public", is not credible.
Innocent bystanders are often injured or killed, not only in the incident itself, but in the aftermath, as rival gangs engage in revenge attacks. My opinion is that state legislatures should pass laws making gang membership, in and of itself, a felony, with severe penalties.
This would allow law enforcement to seize assets, make arrests, execute no knock warrants, and conduct intelligence operations. Those arrested who are illegal aliens, should be deported after their release from prison, and permanently banned from re-entry. Gangs have made serious inroads into all areas of the country, and are a threat to our way of life, and to life itself.
Recent events in Long Island, New York, make this abundantly clear. Suffolk County Police, working with U.S. Marshals, ICE, and State Police, have struck hard at gang activity, and the effort has borne fruit. Until these efforts are replicated all around the country, we will continue to be at risk. Gangs are an infestation which must be dug out at the root.

"but when he said "it is too early to tell if the shooting was targeted at anyone" I had a serious jaw dropper. Well Officer Bass, there are two people that were shot today and I am sure they felt like they were targeted. "

What it means is the difference between "they went to the mall to shoot a specific person" vs "they went to the mall to commit a shooting but of no specific person".

IF they are gang members, pleading with all of them to get out of the gangs. Staying in them means at some point you are going to either end up dead or in prison.

If you are in a gang and aren't willing to leave than take your differences out in the west desert away from people. Stop terrorizing our neighborhoods, schools, malls, movie theaters, and other public places. Our children, grandchildren, elderly parents, and others have a right to be safe from you.

So grateful more weren't hurt and no one was killed. I encourage people to go back to the mall tomorrow if it is open. Do not live your life in fear. Don't let these criminals rob you of your courage, life, or let them rob those stores of their business. If you don't go back, the criminals win. I for one am going back.

Hopefully, different religious leaders will bless the mall that it can be a place of peace, laughter, and enjoyment again.

Thanks to law enforcement for bring there timely, and for all the law enforcement that showed up to help. Pray you will be safe and can catch the criminals quickly. The officers we have lost in the last two months would want all of us to go on with courage and determination.

@ Laurels, did the article say anything about "guys running from the police throughout the neighborhoods east of the Fashion Place Mall with automatic weapons?" No, the article didn't mention anything about weapons and automatic weapons are illegal in the United States. However the article was interesting when Bass said " the suspects in this shooting are possibly gang members." Really, that is amazing but when he said "it is too early to tell if the shooting was targeted at anyone" I had a serious jaw dropper. Well Officer Bass, there are two people that were shot today and I am sure they felt like they were targeted. Then he said "if it actually was gang related then anybody living in the area does not have any personal concerns." Seriously Office Bass how could you say that?. So, folks if you have gangs in your neighborhood you should feel free to be worried regardless of the opinion rendered by the police. Oh and perhaps they will provide a better description of this group so the good citizens can better identify those "suspicious" people.

Tiffany Madsen said, "You don't think this could happen anywhere in Utah." Oh that this was the case!

One of my children's high school classmates was killed in 2007 at the Trolley Square shooting, along with 4 other people. An additional 4 people were wounded.

Then there were the Hi-Fi murders in Ogden in 1974. 3 people were killed, and the 2 people who survived were left with horrific injuries.

The thought of guys running from the police throughout the neighborhoods east of the Fashion Place Mall with automatic weapons is chilling. I hope they are soon apprehended.
