Hopefully we will have a real-time, fact-checking information banner running along the bottom of the television screen while Donald Trump gives his speech. It is important to have the facts readily available when he neglects to state them so viewers will not be taken in by a strategic disinformation campaign.

Although it will probably not make any difference with Trump supporters, it may make some Republicans more nervous when asked to go along with the lies when the public knows better. They will be held accountable in the next election. This is particularly relevant because a significant number of Republican senators will be up in 2020. After what happened in 2018, they will find dishonesty is a poor platform to run on.

In any case, Trump voters will have to reconcile what comes out of this mouth with all the other information presented to them if real-time fact-checking is available. Maybe they don't get the same information the rest of us get because they've been conditioned to not believe the regular news media and believe whatever Trump or his surrogates on Fox News tells them. Maybe they don't care and don't want to know, but real facts should be made available.

Rather than watch the reality show host give his spiel on TV tonight, I think I'll pull up some old episodes of "To Tell the Truth" off of the internet for entertainment this evening.

Though I am not a Democrat, I am so glad to hear they are being given equal time to state
    their position as well.

Democracy requires two points of view at a minimum.

It's really hard to undo a dictatorship. It is good to have a "tator" or two with a hamburger, but not as the head of our government. No "tators" can be tolerated in free society, if they want to remain free.

Obama recently supported and voted for?? In what capacity??
Hillary recently supported and voted for?? Again in what capacity??
Pelosi and Shumer both voted for a continuing resolution to fund the government into February that did not contain any wall funding. In fact the senate approved it unanimously. Trump wouldn’t sign it. Trump owns this mess totally. It’s completely on him. And Pelosi, rightfully, will never give him the funding for his wall. He had his chance when the Republicans controlled everything. That chance is now gone.

It will be interesting to see Schumer & Pelosi try to run away from their own shadow because the porter security that Trump is advocating is the same porter security that all the democrats including Obama, Hillary, and Schumer & Pelosi recently supported and voted for.

"He calls us fake news all the time, but needs access to airwaves. … If we give him the time, he'll deliver a fact-free screed without rebuttal. And if we don't give him the time, he'll call every network partisan,” one executive told CNN.

Pretty short sighted of CNN. Why don't they show the president's speech and do a rebuttal afterward. Or, if they want to interject "facts" why not have a scrolling line at the bottom
(as most news stations do) with facts-checks as the president speaks.

Certainly sounds like CNN is very much partisan if they are even entertaining the idea of not showing Trump; they certainly showed Obama plenty often.

That said, I wonder... didn't they create a new "Presidential Broadcast" channel a few months ago when they forced all the TV stations to move to a different frequency? (Of which I still don't get most signals very well that used to come in very well before.)

I know for sure they created that forced presidential text message system; which forcefully makes people look at their cell phones to accept the message otherwise continually buzzes; and makes awful noise until they do.

For the past 2 years, Trump has controlled the Executive Branch and all the policy decisions over immigration enforcement. During the same time, the GOP controlled both the House and Senate.

Yet we are on the cusp of Trump declaring a state of emergency related to immigration issues he/GOP failed or chose not to address.

America needs to point Trump to that classic sticker/magnet that hangs by the desks in many HR/admin departments: "Lack of Planning on Your Part, Does Not Constitute an Emergency on My Part"

    What a strange article.

It starts out saying that it is "unclear" if it will be on network television. Then, almost immefiately, it says CBS, ABC, and NBC have announced they will broadcast it.

    Where's the beef?

Herb had to gin up CNN snipe to make a story out of it.

The RNC is showing some courage by putting a face on murder at the hands of illegals, sort of like the D News publishing all the pictures of those killed in Utah in 2018.

For those who care to exam the data, there is a correlation to the immigration problem in the areas of crime, drugs, social service costs, education, the opioid crisis and ID fraud.

Perhaps the most surprising: The conventional wisdom estimates of the number of illegal aliens is off by half. It is DOUBLE what most people think it is.

Trump will likely exaggerate and the fact checkers will call him out, but there is no way to hide the seriousness of the problem.

Further to the point, the current social costs will only grow as that population ages.

Please don't watch. Make this the lowest rated presidential address in the history of our country please. He is turning a 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th tier priority into a "national emergency" only for political purposes.

And yes the dems are doing the same thing. Doesn't mean the nation should get sucked into Trump's politicking.

@UtahBruin: "@Daedlaus. I am curious. Where you alright with the $150B Schumer and Pelosi helped Obama hand Iran, an enemy of the USA?"

    First, get your facts straight.

The amount of money was $150G (that is gazillion, btw, which is a zillion times greater than a billion).

Also Schumer and Pelosi did not help Obama HAND the money to Iran. Rather Obama place-kicked a money-stuffed football across the Iraq-Iran border, with Pelosi hiking and Schumer holding. It was a nail-biter.
The kick had to pass-thru green-white-red goalposts, bit it hit the left upright! Then it hit the crossbar! Only then did it bounce forward, across the border. It could have easily bounced the other way (see i.e. da Bears).

Lastly - Iran, an enemy of the USA? Now you are pulling my leg, right? That is like saying Russia is an enemy of the USA! Silly goose.

Regarding the payment to Iran, you do know this was Iran's money? You do know that when the U.S. Embassy was taken over by Iranian students in 1979, Iranian assets in the U.S. were frozen? As part of JCPOA, those funds were returned to taxpayer money, no bribes, no malfeasance, just part of the treaty negotiations.

I encourage President Trump to mandate every member of Congress and the Senate who oppose him to sponsor a family that wants to come into the country and help them get on their feet and to become citizens. Also, everyone in the media, performing and music industry who make millions of dollars and have the resources to care for a family or two (or three). Those who don't oppose him might want to consider the same.

And while I'm at it, how about everyone of those people take down the walls around their homes and get rid of the security force that surrounds them. Just saying.......

"gin up a crisis"......So thousands of illegals trying to cross the border is not a crisis. Man what is if that isn't?"

Well, let's take a look at this further. A couple thousand(s) of people, human beings, (can it be illegal to be a person?) are trying to cross the border right now. They're asylum seekers which, in itself, is not illegal. Most will be refused. It's pretty much another day at the border.
What is a crisis if that isn't? Nothing prior to the national emergencies act of 1974, apparently. So, neither world war, nor the Korean conflict. Or Vietnam. Nor October, 1962. We had a real president then, who faced down a terrifying threat to the US.

I am encouraging everyone, in this time of false fears, to seek out Edward R. Murrow's editorial about fear in the McCarthy era. Like all the best TV, it's grainy and monochrome and looks best on a TV with vacuum tubes in it.
We are not descended from fearful men.

There is no reason not to pass funding bills for at minimum all government agencies except DHS (since that's the one the wall funding would come from), the only reason Republicans could have for blocking that is because they think it's fine to hurt Americans to try and extract funding for a wall.

The proper way is to have an actual discussion on immigration reform where both parties get something they want (much more wall funding than 5 million and DACA were the core pieces of the previous attempt at this).

No, they are just worried about all their fake news being called out by facts. Especially when he visits the border.

Kind of like they did with Obama ALL THE TIME!

"gin up a crisis"......So thousands of illegals trying to cross the border is not a crisis. Man what is if that isn't?

I am curious. Where you alright with the $150B Schumer and Pelosi helped Obama hand Iran, an enemy of the USA? Just curious, what's $5B if we can do that, or even $25B to complete the whole wall.

Don't worry, they will do it when they are done. And they will pick every possible thing they can to pull apart. And then CNN will make things up and give opinions on everything like it's fact. What a joke!

"He calls us fake news all the time, but needs access to airwaves. … If we give him the time, he'll deliver a fact-free screed without rebuttal. And if we don't give him the time, he'll call every network partisan,” one executive told CNN.

Laughable, from this executive. Don't want to be called fake news, then report the truth. Not part of it, not what you think it is, not what you made up. The whole story. Good or bad for either party.

Trump will announce the border "emergency" and trigger kinda-sorta a statutory basis for doing an end-run around Congressional appropriation. The shutdown ends, simultaneous to his actions being challenged in court (1950's SCOTUS precedent is against him). No action will happen on Trump's Wall for the duration of his Presidency, he whines and blames the librul courts, yet declares victory.

    End result?

    - No wall
    - No $5B

Oh yeah...Trump gets to point his finger at someone else for this loss.

Except when he is declaring it an amazing victory.

A couple points on this one.
First, a headline should inform, not ask, the reader. State the obvious. "Networks yet to agree to air Presidential address to the nation". After all, the major media seldom consult with me on these issues. I can't be expected to have an answer.

Second, it'll be on TV. State TV will carry it, and others. He's just too much of a media vacuum to ignore. And they'll all have highlights. He's trying to gin up a crisis where there is none, and one can't blame the media for being reticent to be his accomplice.
