    To "Ranch" but you are gerrymandering for multiple reasons.

    Salt Lake County contains roughly 1/3 of the state population. That means the other districts don't represent the same number of people.

    You also have the problem of who they represent. The goal of the last redistricting effort was to give the representatives equal demographics. That means they have the same number of people living in the city as they do on the farm. If 1/3 of the state lives in one county, that means the county will end up being divided.

    So yes the needs of a city a different than farms, but when you are a representative elected to represent both you need to actually have both in your district.

    Nice try, but what else have you got.

    @RedShirt;

    They're NOT "creating a district to make sure Democrats win". They're creating CONTIGUOUS districts - keeping SLC and SL county as a district makes sense; the needs of SLC/county are vastly different than are rural areas. I know you know this. Why the obfuscation?

    To "Ranch" but it is gerrymandering if you are creating a district for the sole purpose of making it so a Democrat can win.

    However, splitting up SL County, and even the city makes sense if you are trying to create districts that represent a cross section of the population that reflects the demographics of the state.

    If did things as you ask, then you would have Salt Lake to Draper as one district, Bountiful to Pleasant View as another district, then everywhere else divided up. That makes even less sense.

    @RedShirt;

    How is it gerrymandering to fairly create the districts? Keeping areas that live together, together isn't gerrymandering? Splitting SL county among the entire state certainly is though.

    To "embarrassed Utahn!" so, without gerrymandering, what is your solution? If the Avenues represent a minority of liberals in the district, how do you expect to have a representative elected without gerrymandering?

    Let’s see?… Did I say anywhere that my solution is to gerrymander?… Hum… Nope. But I’m sure red shirt that you are happy with the way things are since you always get your choice elected into office.

    I have the satisfaction of living in one of Salt Lake City’s most desirable areas with neighbors who think like I do… And that’s enough for me. I don’t expect any real change to happen in Utah during my lifetime.

    To "embarrassed Utahn!" so your solution to gerrymandering is to gerrymander? Really?

    100% agreed. We need to start mixing things up in Utah and end the ridiculous gerrymandering that gives Republicans a complete stranglehold on Utah politics.

    I live in the very progressive avenues of Salt Lake City and who is my representative? Chris Stewart, Trump apologist to the extreme!

    Every vote should count ! Utah needs to wake up to this very basic fact that our nation was founded upon!

    Our country really needs 5 political parties.

    tea/faux news/right wing radio party
    Republicans
    Purple party
    Dems
    PETA/we can all just live off the largess of others party

    We need governance to be based on ideas, logic, and arguments. Not 'party before country' obstinate foot stomping.

    We need HUGE campaign finance reform (including an end to soft money) and term limits.

    We don't need to "Mix things up", we need a complete house cleaning. The GOP has had all the power, in the House, Senate and White House, and just made a big mess. The GOP has proven, time and time again, that they can't government. Vote them all out.
