“Utah will beat #22 Northwestern to send our first South Champion Seniors out as the highest ranked P12 Utah team. A top 15 finish is a possibility.”

    Nope!

If Utah beats unranked/#22 Northwestern, the Wildcats will be just another unranked Utah bowl opponent, and BYU will still be the highest ranked bowl opponent Utah has played since joining the PAC 12.

If Northwestern beats Utah, the Utes will finish the season unranked.

    Enjoy the bowl BYU built.

The games means nothing to the State anymore. Who wants to watch as you know the outcome and Utah keeps winning?

Even BYU fans don't care about the game anymore. Going to the U of U the administration sent out an email that BYU had returned a large sum of their allotted tickets to the game because their fans didn't purchase them and they were having a lottery for the students for the tickets.

The game means nothing and Utah has 3 OOC games and should use one for them to recruit in their recruiting grounds. Let the recruits and players families let them see their sons play every once in a while.

Utah players in class said Utah used the game to show Washington new wrinkles in their game the first 3 quarters. After that they played their game. Beating BYU in 16 minutes of play. Stop the maddnes and this game. No one cares about it anymore.

I think we should probably consider the facts of 1 no ware anywhere in the article does Not playing other teams or ware Utah recruits from listed. 2 I think it is great to stick with the things listed in the article.

That being said I am glad to see Athletes successful in Academics because more than you would think get to go pro.

    KLL Coug,

you live in California; accordingly, why all of the concern over the state of Utah? Those in-state, no-win situation games do nothing for Utah. Utah wins them and drops in the polls.

As mentioned in other posts, Utah needs to play in the states where their recruiting comes from, as in California, Texas and Florida. How many players has Utah recruited from Logan and Cedar City? That's what I thought.

It is very curious how the 'out of staters' insist on telling us what is good for Utah. I can see why he doesn't want us playing california teams...clean sweep this year.

As for Utah, we are doing just fine thank you.

    KLLcoug,

Want a meaningless OOF, play byu, Weber, SUu and USU each year. At this point, most Ute fans wish we don’t continue with byu series. It’s fun, good for local fans, but not any different than beating NIU. It means nothing in the big national picture. Each team needs to find there own way. And the government has nothing to do with it.

Excited for the game and then for next season. I think this NU game could be as much about what NU team shows up (is it the one that almost lost to Nebraska and a terrible Rutgers team, or is the one that played toe-to-toe with Michigan as well as OSU for a half?) as it does Utah dominates on defense.

With all the returning talent plus ASU losing their best 2 players (although Benjamin is still a beast) and USC losing their best defenders, the Utes should be favored to win the division next year. Washington will always be tough but does lose a lot in their backfield, QB, RB, and others. So they may take a small step back. WSU loses their QB and Oregon may lose Herbert. If that is the case, we might even be favored to win the conference.

I am wondering when Whit decides who will be the next OC? I am hoping we can lure in someone like the Coach or OC from one of the Florida schools (UCF or USF) or maybe the OC from somewhere like Houston. Those teams have both had high performing offenses, plus it would further the recruiting pipeline into Florida or Texas. So if they were available and interested, that could be a recruiting win.

Any word on who might be available?

“As a state institution, why not do something for the entire state and not just for SLC. Keep you OOC games in Utah.“

Since it’s all about recruiting nowadays, how does any in-state matchup help us in this regard? We already own the state overall in recruiting w/the kids who don’t opt to leave the state.

We need OOC games in fertile recruiting grounds & those [P5] that’ll give us national exposure [i.e., UM a few years back].

For instance, we can never play too much in fertile recruiting grounds such as CA/TX/FL....And no, we s/h never scheduled NIU.

    Beat NU!

    Go Utes!

    KLL. Coug,

It sounds like you don’t understand how the PAC 12 divisional champs are determined. If there is a team with a better conference (after all 9 conference games) record than the other 5 teams in the division, then that team gets the crown. Therefore, ALL conference games matter. And beating your divisional rivals matters in determining tie-breakers.

Conference games matter more than non-conference contests, but all 12 matter for determining if a team gets ranked.

The Pac 10.2 has too many games that don’t matter. I know Kyle can do the math, he is a bright guy. To claim all the games matter is simply incorrect. The three OOC games, the three OOD games and one of the five division games have no impact on the outcome of the season. How can seven games, with no impact, be important?

That Cody Barton is a stud! I am so impressed how good of a line backer he is, and how he worked so hard to improve each year, and tranform himself into a shot at the NFL. He maybe the player at Utah that improved the most from Freshman to Senior.

I know the kids want to win everything, these are good kids with a strong desire to win. But desire, hope and wishing doesn’t change reality.

You can be the first five win team to play in the Rose Bowl. Win the division, win the CCG, get an exemption and bingo you are there.
As a state institution, why not do something for the entire state and not just for SLC. Keep you OOC games in Utah. Play SUU or Weber every other year. Home and home with USU and BYU. Now you have three games that mean something to the state at least. No impact to your conference or division but it does impact the state. Do we really need to go to the state government to help you see the light?

Come on Kyle, time to Cowboy Up!

Beating a CFP final ranked opponent in NU in the prestigious Holiday Bowl would be one heck of a way to go out for our seniors.....Not to mention, securing yet another year of double-digit Ws/finishing ranked in the polls for the 4th time in the last 5 years!

    Beat NU!

    Go Utes!
