Correction - BYU was never down by 27 to SMU. The most they were ever down was by 20, when it was 45-25. BYU scored 27 points in the 4th quarter, but they were never down by 27.

Another reason they didn't "travel by air":. What is it, about a 29 minute flight from SLC to Boise?

    Ha ha. Go figure.

For those who are so sensitive about mentioning the bowl payout, especially the ones in Olympus Cove, it's okay. At least you can still claim the seating capacity title. 😹

Maybe the "payout" wasn't all that much, but just think of all of those famous Burbank Russet potatoes they were able to enjoy.

“Maybe it was what the doctor ordered, but it wasn't what the banker ordered. The total payout for the potato bowl is $950,000. No wonder BYU didn't travel by air to Boise, their half of the payout wouldn't cover it.”

Trust a Ute not to know that the $950,000 payout is PER TEAM, and as an Independent, BYU doesn’t share that payout with anybody.

BYU easily covered their bowl game expences and gave their true Freshman QB and the entire team a huge springboard of confidence heading into next season.

As has already been stated, the jealous angst of our friends on the hill is palpable, otherwise U wouldn’t be spamming this blog with your inane commentary.

claims a Ute fan, when two of them combine for 10 comments (thus far) on a single BYU article!

It was a very enjoyable game to watch, as were the predictable comments following the game. Looking forward to a more palatable 2019 season.

Real Ute’s antics will never change the fact that BYU owns U in National Achievements:

    - National Championships,
    - Heisman Trophies,
    - National HOF Players,
    - National Individual Awards (Sammy Baugh, Davey O’Brien, Outland, Doak Walker, and Maxwell)
    - AP Top 25 — BYU 17, Utah 8
    - AP all time top 100 —
    #34 BYU, #63 Utah

Enjoy your make believe SOS trophies.

    @CV Storm,

Don't ever state there won't be speculative BYU "glory" over Utah articles in week 1 of the 2019 season. Dick Harmon is already promoting and posturing.........read what he says. BYU has another "hero" quarterback again. I'm sure Utah's elite defense in really worried......? HAHA!

As this Christmas season winds down to a close I am somewhat saddened by the end of the BYU and U of U football seasons. For 6 months at least there will be no platform for the Cougar and Ute fans to belittle one another, no articles to express distain or animosity towards each other. No posts that rile one another up, so we respond with comments that we would never express in a face to face discussion, out the the bright, cold winter air. I will miss the vehicle where we can vent frustration with our own teams failures, and point out the issues with one another's teams shortcomings. It will be a log hard 6 months. Merry Christmas everyone.

Dick Harmon's antics are in full force yet again. Using adjectives like "explosive" vs a team like Western Michigan University is way over-the-top. But, Mr. Harmon lives for BYU, always has, even in these latter-days for Y D1 athletics as of today.

Is there a NC or a Heisman again Mr. Harmon?

It is no Ute fan "obsession" whatsoever, as you claim. Utah has moved on to the PAC, what we care about wholeheartedly, and want BYU off all Utah schedules. It is that simple. Does that work for you "brother?"

Great win! Just goes to prove that BYU has out punted their coverage on scheduling. Sure, they can beat teams like Western Michigan and according the comments on these board that’s quite a big deal for the BYU faithful. Until they beat team that finishes the year ranked in the top 25, it won’t mean anything. Having said that, Wilson did look really good.

    Relax ND,
Western Michigan isn't Utah (Not even close). We'll play 4 quarters in the next game (we might even spot the Y 20 points again (twice).

One game does not make a NATIONAL Champion, nor for that matter an average 7-6 team.

So we have two signature wins, at least, with Coach Sitake's fingerprints. Yes, Western Michigan is not Alabama, but Wisconsin away was and still is Wisconsin away. And but for some fluky junk we'd have beaten Boise St., Utah, the California Golden Bears, and Northern Illinois. Two of those are legit good teams.

We have a deep, young and talented O line, a freshman quarterback who will drill you through the air or on the ground. We need running backs, but there's Riley Burt, a coiled snake waiting for a chance to spring, and Lopini Katoa, whose nickname ought to be "Krakatoa," a small and apparently harmless island which however has a disturbing tendency to massively erupt and spread its power and might.

I submit that what we saw against W Mich is a type for the program now. Coach said his recruiting was like jigsaw pieces, fitting into his puzzle. Our young cornerbacks will handle single coverage, allowing our stable of talented LBs to blitz the opponent to death.

Yes, we still have growing pains. That includes the coaches (Utah game). But if BYU football were an IPO, I'd buy as much stock as I could.

    Go Cougs.

Two sraight years this team has been hit with injury after injury. Bronco's teams suffered same until he got creative with strength and conditioning coach (who went to Virginia with him). That change worked. Fewer injuries kept best players on the field. Sitake now has to do something different, too, or continued injuries will keep BYU from competing against the big boys next year and beyond. Zach will need healthy receiving corps next year, and the defense will need healthy Kaufusis. But when healthy, and with Zach, they can compete in every game.

That is better than a sharp stick in the eye. It proves we could probably go 6-6 or maybe better in the MAC. Congrats. Nothing less than 9 wins in 2019-20 will be good enough. Holmoe has made it hard for you for the next few years. Good luck. Congrats to Hill. Best of luck and much success in life. And thanks for all those Hail Mary’s. "That stretch of 35 straight points was the most explosive offensive football BYU has shown since Taysom Hill ran over and through Texas. We can’t count Wagner and Savannah State."

    ------

    What about counting #114 Hawaii?

The only difference is BYU ran over Hawaii and today #102 Western Michigan stopped the run so BYU used the passing game.

I don't understand all the hype? Did BYU accomplish something special over a poor defense?

    Toledo 51 WM 24
    Ohio 59 WM 14
    Ball State 42 WM 41
    NIU 21 WM 28
    BYU 49 WM 18

The comment about the line coming out in the third quarter and playing better was spot on, and so far seems overlooked.

I love Jeff Grimes ‘ offense, but I really question his play calling sometimes. Did it take a genius to figure out that we didn’t have much of a running game?

If anybody is listening, might I suggest that we get a list of about 15 different fourth and one plays? How many more games would we have won this season if we just could’ve gotten one yard on fourth down?

One brilliant half of football, good season, sure looking forward to next year. And that’s a nice feeling : )

The passing game won this game for BYU. I really hope the coaches take notice and use more passing in the future. Wilson can throw deep, short, and run when he has to. If the O-line continues to protect him, he will be great. Incidentally, what ever happened to that 400 pound Langi kid? I would love to see him in the middle on the defensive side. Please let us know when we can expect to see him on the field.
