    Cougar,

There is a lot more to that.

Utah has tons of seniors, so it's an abnormal recruiting class, next year it's a going to be a huge class for Utah.

It's also only December, February might have a different ending.

Furthermore I don't see the crossover between BYU recruits and Utah recruits (as well as USU) that most assume.

BYU won one common recruit - but how many are common? You've got the honor code and different focus in each schools and different focuses on each team.

Then you've got missions (both schools) and different coaching styles.

Then one might ask how people are recruiting, BYU missed a RB, they need one in February. Bronco looked for "BYU guys", I hope grimes and sitaki are putting together a specific shopping list. I'd like to see more RBs, OL and DL guys, honestly I don't know what the Utes need.

I don't think it means what most think. I've long downplayed the comparisons, I still do.

Per the rating services there is essentially no difference in recruiting class quality between BYU and Utah. I am stunned (but pleasantly surprised) by this in view of the advantages Utah now has.

I think that we win on Aug 29.

Those who know anything about recruiting know that Utah's 2019 class will be small. So, go ahead a claim yet another moral victory over Utah - even though your school is 11 spots behind Utah's with 4 more recruits. Moral victories are your specialties, especially since your team can't beat Utah's anymore, and is losing ground to Utah every year. We kind of feel sorry for you, but not too much.

    -------

Utah is a Top 25 program, literally in a different league.

They think they're "very close" to Utah because of margin of defeat but in reality BYU is a mediocre G5 program with no BCS or CFP history.

BYU today is around the 10th best G5 program. They have even started to lose ground to Utah State.

"The Cougars don't have depth. They're still recruiting at their MWC level."

Yep. Per Rivals, the cougars class thus far would be tied with San Diego St's (at 8th), and their average star rating would have put them at 4th!

That's pretty much right there in the meaty middle of a league that they think they're too good for.

"Sugar coat this however you want but 247 Sports is the most in depth reliable site out there concerning college football recruiting...."

Deny it all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that Rivals had been independently rated as the "most accurate" of all recruit rating sources. And current last place standing notwithstanding, unlike the most of the rest of the Pac-12, we're not done with our class yet. The "final tally " doesn't take place until February. This was just the "early" signing period.

You're absolutely crushed that we'd out-recruited you guys AGAIN, aren't you? Haha!

Too bad they didn't get a much better opponent, say like, Eastern Michigan in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
    Too bad, indeed.

"According to 247 Sports after yesterdays Early signing (which makes up about 85%) of all signings for 2019 , the utes finished dead last in recruiting in the pac12 ....A couple of spots"

LOL! Utah is 11 spots higher than your school with 12 commits vs 16. Average rating per recruit is 85.14 vs 82.71 - a huge difference. And that includes a Utah punter rated at 73.97.

Those who know anything about recruiting know that Utah's 2019 class will be small. 36-10-23

You are all over the place. First you say that NW has a SOS of #9, it has never been #9 all year. It has been as low as #36, as high as #10 and is currently #23. It's to easy to look up. Then you justify the losses to Duke and Akron because it was early in the year. Well I guess they lost to Michigan in Week 4 after losing to Duke and Akron. So does Week 4 constitute the beginning of the season where all teams are dramatically better than another. I will give you this, I don't think NW is a patsy either. Would I have preferred another opponent for them, yes. But I think this will be a defensive game, not much different than the Pac-12 Championship. I like Utah to win. But they are playing a lower team in the Big10 despite winning the B10 West. Who is in the west, Wisconsin is not much to talk about this year. And we won't go to who they lost to in Camp Randall. But Iowa, Purdue, Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois were not much better. It is to bad they couldn't play Michigan, the on paper second best team in the B10.

LOL. I just love the depths Utah haters go to try and diminish Utah's accomplishments. Over the years, Utah just keeps on checking off the boxes of things they said the football team will never accomplish. In the end, I guess mocking opponents is just one of the few things they have left, and they're not very good at that either.

    Go Utes!

It's hard to recruit a good QB with a revolving door at OC. At what point does KWhitt realize that he needs to recruit QBs??? We're in a bad way.

Joex4 "If memory serves, since 2004, with the exception of the two teams mentioned above, Utah’s teams have been pretty even."
You memory has partially failed. The teams were even in the MWC, but have since been on different trajectories. Perhaps they seem "pretty even" because the score ends up close, but rivalry games are a bad gauge. PAC Utes have ended the regular season in the top 25 four times, while the Indy-Cougs have failed to reach that mark.

The Utes rise has been slow and steady in areas one might not notice like depth. The 2004 and 2008 teams were lucky in that their depth wasn't tested. Remarkable about Utah's Division Title is that they relied on a backup QB and RB to win it. It is cheesy to say "next man up", but now the Utes have talent at depth.

The Cougars don't have depth. They're still recruiting at their MWC level. They have the talent to upset a Wisconsin or a Nebraska, but the toll of a front-loaded schedule wears them down. A loss can lead to a losing streak, including to teams that should never beat BYU. I'd say the schedule is the issue, but even then it seems the team is regressing from Bronco's days.

@ Who am I sir?...I’m not sure Utah has come all that far since leaving the MWC. Utah is better than BYU now but that was also true before they left the MWC. The two best teams Utah has ever had (2004 and 2008) were while they were in the MWC. The pac-12 has not been all that great lately. I’m confident both Utah’s 2004 and 2008 teams would have easily won the pac-12 the last several years. If memory serves, since 2004, with the exception of the two teams mentioned above, Utah’s teams have been pretty even.

“Market it anyway you want but Utah got a patsy in the Holiday Bowl.”

Nah, NW went 8-5 against the #9 ranked SOS nationally.....That hardly qualifies as a “patsy”.....And their Duke/Akron games were very early in the year & hardly reflected how they were playing down the stretch.

Market it anyway you want, but this “patsy” beat MSU, didn’t face PSU & took both Michigan/undefeated ND down to the wire.....And OSU didn’t blast them from start-to-finish.....Besides, since when is losing to a Top-10 OSU shameful, regardless of final margin?

NW is a tough opponent that’s very well coached & will necessitate our A-game to beat them.....They finished CFP final ranked for a reason.

    Go Utes!

Northwestern Big10 division champions? They are the 4th or 5th best team in their conference tops. They like Utah just play in the weaker side of the conference. Northwestern is not as good as OSU, Michigan, Penn State, and Probably Michigan St. They not only got crushed by Ohio State, but lost to Akron, Ohio to boot. They lost to Duke for crying out loud. Market it anyway you want but Utah got a patsy in the Holiday Bowl.

    Remember when?

Before the PAC-12 we would compete in recruiting with the MWC members and a few times with the PAC-12 lower division teams and even winning occasionally. Now look at this class: 1) a punter ranked as a 2 star with no other offers. (Anyone care about stars for a punter = as long as he is anything like our other punters in recent yrears?) 2) The linebacker transfer from Penn State only has one year so I did not add his 29 offers (24 from P-5 schools) with the other recruits 3) Now the 10 other signese. Had a total of 97 offers of which 41 were from P-5 schools (Per Rivals ranking And the P-5 offers included Florida, Nebraska, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oregon (multiple), USC (multiple), and Wisconsin.

Wow, how far we have come. Now with some 6-7 additional recruits expected in the traditional signing date in February some starters and depth will give additional strength to the defending PAC-12 Southern Division Champs!

But that's down the road... now take care of the nationally ranked Big 10 Division Champs, Northwestern in the Holiday Bowl!

    Go, Utes!
