This is the only kind of plea deal that should ever be offered.

DN Subscriber - excellent commentary but the reality is, this does apply to Flynn.

I know Ron Hansen and I know his parents and siblings.
I don't know what evidence they do or do not have on Ron,
but my first reaction to this is that I worry that we have a justice
department gone amok, or even perhaps Ron is being framed.
We would all want to be innocent until proven guilty.
That is one of the core fundamentals that makes our country great.
    Let's not throw it away.

President Trump is critical of the Justice Department and the FBI. He also doesn't believe it when the CIA and the NSA state that the Russians interfered in the 2016 Presidential election to aid the Republican party. Maybe these charges against Hansen are bogus as well.

Imagine a former Army officer turning his back on his Oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

    Turns my stomach.

I'm totally in agreement with DN Subscriber.

The 2 words that jump out at me in reading of this man's actions: Benedict Arnold.

Trying a Flynn spin is the new normal even for treason.

Sorry, family members. "One 'Aw shucks' wipes out all the "attaboys.'"

He may have done a great job as an Army officer, but he allegedly has also been doing very big and illegal and serious spying work for China for at least 4 years.

This is not anything like the Flynn case, for which a good argument can be made that it is a political prosecution. This is plain old fashioned spying for the enemy.

Anything less than the maximum penalty for treason is a very generous offer, far more generous than circumstances merit.

""Gen. Flynn is being investigated and prosecuted by the same FBI and Department of Justice as Ron Hansen. To date, Gen. Flynn has not spent one minute in jail," the family statement says."

I don't think associating your case to Flynn's (or any other Trump indictee) is a great legal or PR strategy.
