Great season Aggies!!! There would have been an easy way to determine the best team in the state. If Utah would play USU it would be easy. Since Utah of the mighty PAC 11 + U knows better USU wins by default. It's a lot easier to just claim your better than prove it.

Go Aggies!!!!! Thanks for a very enjoyable year!

Regarding the debate about the "best team" - I like to look at various computer rankings to get some insight. Regrettably I have to conclude that the U of U likely is the better team. My favorite computer system is the Wilson performance ranking system. Here are some of its selected rankings following this weekend:
    22Fresno State
    28Utah
    36Michigan State
    39Boise State
    42Utah State
    70BYU
    98North Texas
    101Weber
    276SUU

Showing that yes Utah likely is better than Utah State (14 spots apart), but the MWC Conference Champion Fresno State is better than the PAC 12 second place team Utah. Not quite as much "separation" there as the U of U folks like to pretend.

Also note that BYU is about as close to Weber (31 spots ahead) as it is to USU (28 spots behind).

    Looking forward to next year!

One other note, BYU can't get the "G5" post season spot no matter how well it performs - it can only be considered for an at large spot since it is an independent. So it is much more likely that USU could be in a "NY6 game" than BYU - and in fact next year USU has a real shot at doing so.

USU or Utah for best team in the state? We'll never know. USU or BYU for strength of schedule this year? Aggs officially ranked lower and the Y did play some bigger names. But they also played some lesser names. And most of USU's wins were blowouts against the league.

Nevertheless, the Wyo, Col St and Boise games were disappointing, despite the Aggies winning two of them. No coincidence that Jordan Love was not good in any of the three. As he goes, so go the Aggies. As a sophmore, he will probably get better. If Anderson can replace his O and D lines, we're likely to have these arguments for at least the next couple of years.

And that's a lot of fun for us USU, U of U and BYU fans, don't you agree?

It must be fear or someone else's success that causes posters to say that Utah State did not have a great season. Congratulations, Ags!

If BYU runs the table, they will be considered for the G-5 spot. If the Mountain West champ runs the table, they will be considered for the G-5 spot. If neither runs the table, they will not be given a second look. If the MWC champ loses any game, regardless of strength of nonconference schedule and big wins, they will not be considered over a P5 runner-up. If BYU, on the other hand, has one loss and great SOS, they will be considered because they will not have the "lesser conference" stigma attached to their team. That is the benefit of independence.

Do I think the MWC, top to bottom, is as good as the PAC this year? Yes. Do I think it is unfair that the P% has all the control? Yes. But it is all about money and they have the keys to the bank. They do not want to let someone else in.

Well done Aggies! To those that say this is just a practice game, or whatever, shame on you. They were invited to a Bowl game, and won. Picked up some extra $$ for the school, and the players were watched by scouts. Not every NFL player comes from a DIV I school.

The bowl season is here and once again the mid majors are dominating the pathetic pac 10.2. You just can't make this stuff up.

Great game by the Aggies. As with the rest of the season they can just play the opponent their given. North Texas was supposed to be pretty good, but it did not turn out that way. If the Aggies had beaten Boise and Fresno, their opponent would not have been much better. ASU got rolled by Fresno State, I think that is a statement on how good the "conference of champions" is. MWC in bowl games 2-0, PAC 12 in bowl games 0-1, and counting.

Didn’t realize that bowl season had already but congrats to the Aggies on a nice bowl win, and a great season.

Best team in the state, despite what the kids on the hill may think.

The Utes are fortunate that they didn’t have to play the Aggies this season.

Utah State would dominate the Utes.

“Utah State so deserved to play a bigger name in a better bowl. New Mexico bowl is your reward for a great season?”

#114 SOS/literally beat not a single good team.....This was on top of not even being able to win their midmajor division.....They were slotted in precisely the bowl game they earned.

    tinplater—

Arkansas was beyond terrible this year, even losing to a CSU team usu had no business beating.....And Rice is hardly a big-time program, but rather yet another mediocre midmajor.

    Go Utes!

Hard to argue that USU is not the best team in the state. Great win and great season.

A lot of changes for this off season. We will have to see what happens next year.

Unfortunately an awesome showing for the Aggies. I was pulling for the Mean Green but USU clearly was the superior team.

It's too bad that the starting QB for North Texas got injured early. Utah State still would have won but at least it might have been a slightly competitive game if Fine had been able to stay in the game. The 4 interceptions by the North Texas backup QBs really doomed them.

This game is illustrative of how much better the MWC is relative to C-USA. With USU's blowout over North Texas (a previously relatively well regarded team) and Fresno State's win over Arizona State (albeit without their superstar WR, N'Keal Harry), if Boise State beats Boston College then the MWC will have a high profile going into next year and it would not be surprising if the MWC champion next year (be it USU, FSU or BSU) gets the G-5 New Years bowl spot. It would be fabulous if we (BYU) were in the mix for this possibility but the Holmoe (in)dependence experiment unfortunately drags on.

aggies will try and spin this as a great season. With the low standards they have, I suppose I can see their rationale.

However, there isn't a single good program in the country that would consider 0 wins against P5 teams, 0 wins against end of season ranked teams, and a horrible bowl game like the New Mexico Bowl a good season.

USU is no doubt the second best team in the state. But again, that's nothing to brag about.

The loss to Boise doomed a better bowl. I was genuinely worried because just eyeballing north Texas' schedule, they played some big name universities (Arkansas, Rice). But the Aggies were for real this year, and amazingly were picked 4th in their division! Congrats to the team for representing the university with such class and playing through the distractions of the last two weeks with a super effort today. Time for season tickets for all Aggie fans within a few hours of Logan, next year is going to be fun.

Yeah, I'm not surprised. North Texas has come a long way, but they're still playing catch-up for years of being absolutely atrocious. Neither USU nor UNT had schedules which looked terribly difficult compared to BYU or Utah, but the way USU walloped most of their opponents (my beloved BYU included) was a sign to me from the beginning that this was going to be a very one-sided match-up. I think BYU-UNT would have been a much better game. USU deserved a better bowl opponent, although I'm sure they're not complaining over the way they steamrolled the Mean Green today.

Don’t watch Bowl games besides CFP. They are at best, consolation games, at worst, extra practices. No meaning.

    Nice win Aggies.

Although it's sad that a team that narrowly lost to Michigan state, then lost the championship to boise, gets the new Mexico bowl. Aggies deserve something better!
