You ute fans are hilarious. BYU doesn't compare to Utah? Seems like every game comes down to the wire. The utes were petrified at half time.

Consider other sports combined and it is the other way around. Utah doesn't compare to BYU.

Naval Vet...I am impressed with your clairvoyant abilities. You are able to perceive the thoughts of the Utah players and know their motivation (or lack thereof) versus BYU. Frankly, I suspect that, contrary to what you say, the Utah players had plenty of motivation to beat guys who many of them played with or against in high school. The reality is that football is a game which feeds on emotion. BYU got out of the gate quickly, seized the momentum and there was little Utah could do to stop it for much of the game. In the second half, Utah made adjustments. BYU's depth issue at running back eventually played out. Utah seized the momentum and then there was little BYU could do to stop it. Your argument that Utah took BYU lightly does not hold water. It is simply an excuse for an outcome which was different than the one expected. If the Utah players didn't really care about the game or took BYU lightly, then why did those same players celebrate the win by jumping into the M.U.S.S. after the game, or jumping around like they had won the Super Bowl (both things I observed after the game concluded)? The post-game player (and coach) reactions don't support your argument.

Mr. Hoge transferred from Notre Dame to BYU and is rewarded with the Famous Potato Bowl and a much better quality of life, the reason he stated he wanted out of ND. So what would you do? Stay for a potential national championship this year or get out and move to a better environment . In his mind he made the right move. That’s all that counts.

    blue & white:

"Utah didn’t come into the game sleep walking, they wanted to score 35 pts in the first quarter. In rival games teams don’t look forward to the next game."

Make believe all you want, but we WERE sleepwalking through that game, looking ahead to our next one. That game is YOUR "Super Bowl". Not ours. And just because we're YOUR biggest rival, that doesn't mean that you're OURS!

8 straight little bro! What makes you think your 9th time's the charm?

"Washington dealt with Utah and demonstrated that Whittingham still doesn't realize that a good offense is useful to a football team."

Except that UWa won that game despite failing to produce much Offense themselves!

    Fail.

"...a certain former BYU defensive star didn't have the grace to shake Chris Peterson's hand after losing to Washington."

Where did this myth originate? Did you make that up yourself, or are you ignorantly repeating some other indy-WACer's lie?

I find it interesting that from an article about Hoge's feelings about the indy-WACers heading off to the bush-league Potato Bowl, all you could do was obsess about Utah.

    @ Who I am sir,

Tristen Hoge at Notre Dame had a hard time getting any reps on ND's practice squad in fact. He transferred to BYU.......is he effective today at all? NOPE! My true belief is Tristen Hoge is another talker like Thomas Shoaf and the many others at the Y. Does anyone remember talkers like Matt Reynolds or Jan Jorgensen.........or even Max Hall? What did they ever do? Lip service is just that.

Hoge saw how Notre Dame does it.. from the bench.

Hoge must be wondering what if he stayed at ND this year - what a season they have had.

Tell me again u fans how you have left BYU behind? Prove it and stop commenting on BYU.

As Dick Harmon stated in his blurbs........"BYU is developing the young players.".......okay then......

Are these "players" from the last 5 years of poor BYU recruiting classes? Have BYU fans actually looked at Y recruits? Additionally, look at the HIGH recruits the've lost. It is very unfortunate indeed.

I think that BYU should hope for another D2-3 conference expansion, like the possible "Wasatch Front Conference" in the works as of today. In fact, there is a current BYU hopeful that is already committed to Dixie State that they are competing for.........wow?

Utah is in a precarious spot! If Utah AD Mark Harlan doesn't schedule BYU, which they should not, then the Y owners will make sure that "The U" suffers. We Utes saw their "werks" after the Nicky Emery fiasco. I say......."schedule Utah state-run schools only."

Mr. Hoge transferred from Notre Dame to BYU and is rewarded with the Famous Potato Bowl. What if he had stayed at Notre Dame? It seems as if they are going to a post season bowl game as well.

“it was no fluke that BYU led Utah 20-0 and 27-7 late in the third quarter on Utah’s home field." Utah didn’t come into the game sleep walking, they wanted to score 35 pts in the first quarter. In rival games teams don’t look forward to the next game. Rationalize all you want Ute fans because you don’t want to be around when you loose to the Y, as soon as 2019. BYU dominated most of the game. The Y’s key injuries to both Kafusis and Hadley hurt otherwise the Y wins. Like Utah we had key injuries going into the game. The 2-6 PAC conference is a mediocre conference again because no teams in the final 4. Go Cougs!

Harmon always baits Utah in his commentaries.......fine by me! BYU cannot compare to Utah in any way. They try to, but Utah football is just better.

There's almost no place left to go for our little blue brothers but up...not to being P5 competitive, but surely WAC competitiveness can be a goal.

Washington dealt with Utah and demonstrated that Whittingham still doesn't realize that a good offense is useful to a football team.

In the BYU game, I found it interesting that in the desperate 4th quarter, 4 or 5 key injuries to running backs and defensive players occurred in the space of a few downs.

Bad luck? I'm not sure. But a certain former BYU defensive star didn't have the grace to shake Chris Peterson's hand after losing to Washington. Would he have called for some particular attention to certain BYU players? Of course not. No way. Never ... unless his team was getting spanked.

"Hoge said it was no fluke that BYU led Utah 20-0 and 27-7 late in the third quarter on Utah’s home field."

It was a fluke. It's like you'd said Dick -- the indy-WACers 27-pts were more points scored on our Offense than Colorado (7), Oregon (25), UCLA (10), Arizona (10), Stanford (21) and Washington (21 and 10) scored against the highly touted Ute defense during Pac-12 play. Versus THOSE teams, we'd taken them seriously.....as opposed to looking ahead toward our next opponent. Utah typically doesn't do that. But vs. our unranked, 6-win, indy-irrelevant, WAC-wannabe little brothers, it's hard to NOT sleepwalk through that game while thinking about our next one.

Hoge may "claim" he's "excited to be playing in [the Potato Bowl]", but I'm not too sure about that. His Freshman year at Notre Dame, they went to the Fiesta Bowl. But now, as a Sophomore, he's watching his former team play in the CFP/Cotton Bowl. Kinda hard to get excited about the Potato Bowl when you know you COULD have been in the CFP/Cotton. If he were being honest, he'd admit that this is a MAJOR let-down.

I'm so glad to have our rivalry over with the u and that the u has moved on. This way we can enjoy all the comments from the BYU fans and not have the ankle biting from the u fans. What a nice change to see that they are way past us and only focus on the pac ten teams. Tear up the blue turf Hoge.
