Great job ladies! Stanford will be tough, but BYU is good enough and tough enough to beat the #1 seed.

"The win sends BYU on a plane to Minneapolis where they'll compete to take a national championship for the first time in program history."

"What? I thought they played for a national championship in 2014 losing to Penn State in the finals."

That's correct DanB. I thought the same thing and was going to post something, but saw yours instead. Even if the article meant BYU was going to compete for their first national championship in program history (as NevadaCoug suggests), I would argue if you and I both read it the same way, the article is not clear enough. For those who don't follow all sports at BYU, some may read that and believe that BYU has never made it to the final four in women's volleyball.

BYU might have swept the match, but it was close enough that a few more points going for Texas would have meant that Texas got the sweep. BYU and Texas were evenly matched through the first 20 points of each set and then BYU showed its grit by finishing stronger and getting the wins. To say that it wasn't a close match is somewhat disrespectful to Texas and I'll bet the BYU players don't feel that Texas didn't play them "close."

"The win sends BYU on a plane to Minneapolis where they'll compete to take a national championship for the first time in program history."

I had to read that a second time as well. I think what they are saying is that BYU will be trying to win their first National championship, not that this is the first time they've been to a final four.

Since our youngest daughter began playing volleyball in High School, I've converted and become a believer! Watching this Cougar team is more enjoyable than viewing 99% of other sports on TV!!

"The win sends BYU on a plane to Minneapolis where they'll compete to take a national championship for the first time in program history."

Again, what? I went to and in their news release they state, "No. 4 BYU women’s volleyball advanced to the third Final Four in program history, sweeping No. 5 seed Texas (25-23, 25-23, 25-21) Saturday night in the Smith Fieldhouse."

The last time was in 2014 when they lost in the finals to Penn State (that means they took 2nd place). That team was pretty good too (Alexa Gray, Jennifer Hamson, Amy Boswell and our hometown favorite Tia Withers Welling).

That was only 4 years ago. The final matches were broadcast on ESPN. How soon we forget.

3-0 does show a dominating win. Set scores shows a close match. Just a couple of more blocks or hits, that score with Texas could have been tied going into a next set. To me, that’s close. Texas was a great opponent to get by. They thought they were close. Stanford will be a tough match. Go Cougar Women

I watched the games because Tia Withers Welling was on the team. Tia grew up in our ward.

The Cougar win was definitely a team effort, however failing to mention Mary Lake's outstanding defensive performance was a serious omission. Kills are dramatic, like Yoeli's slam dunk, but superior digs and passing sets up poster-shot kills.

Not sure how closely you follow College volleyball.

While “close” is an exaggeration in one sense, it’s not in another.

The match was a “sweep” (a 3-0 win) for BYU, which is one measure of dominance in college volleyball. Texas couldn’t even win one set in a best of 5 match.

But, looking at the set scores, it looks close. Rally scoring (where a point is awarded for every rally)can make matches appear close, when they really aren’t all that close.

Still another measure of dominance for me is when opposing teams can’t muster even 20 points in the loss of a one set. While most of BYU’s opponents this year had difficulty reaching 20 points in their sets, obviously Texas was a little more challenging for the Cougars.

Texas is Top 10 level competition. This match was 2 heavyweights slugging it out, with BYU gaining a clear and decisive victory.

I don't know if they will win the women's national volleyball championship this year, but I do know they will give their opponent(s) their best shot. They just don't quit. They figure a way to correct their strategy and they don't belabor their mistakes. I look forward to watching them this Thursday at 5 pm MST on ESPN when they will face the number one rated team in the nation - Stanford - Stanford had only one loss this year and that was to BYU so there may be the revenge factor in Thursday's matchup. Should be a classic contest.

Roni Jones Perry is a beast. Probably the best hitter in the NCAA. BYU already beat Stanford, so they have a shot, but Stanford learns quick. Nebraska looks tough. Don't get cocky BYU fans.

A few years ago volleyball moved up into one of my favorites sports to watch and it sure is great fun to watch the Lady Cougars figure things out as they come from behind to win, go Cougars!

@ Striker: "Why is it always so fun to beat Texas all the time in many sports!"

As someone who was born and raised in Texas and is not a UT fan in the's always a good time when you beat the Longhorns!

I'm proud of this team. Lets get it done and bring a title home, Cougars!!!

Channel 5 just mentioned that BYU Volleyball beat Texas tonight and that the match "wasn't even close". How much closer does it have to be to be close. 25-23, 25-23 and 25-21. I would say that's close.
Congrats to the BYU Women headed to the final four!

BYU will play against a Big10 team if they win next game, BIG10 network doesn't mention BYU on the final four.

What an awesome regional and dominating performance by the Cougs! This team is so fun to watch because, as Heather points out, they are unified and enjoy playing together. Definitely one of the top BYU sporting events of all time!

Oh my! It's such a GREAT day to be a Cougar fan.

First the BYU Men's basketball teams beat Utah by 15 points. Yoeli was iconic!

Then the Ladies stellar Volleyball team swept (3-0) #4 Texas on the home court in front of a wild and wonderful BYU screaming crowd at the Smith Fieldhouse. ESPNU couldn't gush enough over BYU fans and how well they (the commentators) had been treated in Provo. Friday, BYU had beaten Florida! Now they go on to the finals in NCAA!

    Love these Cougars! Go teams!

If any of you have not watched one of the BYU women's matches this year now is the time to get on board. This is an energetic, happy, enthusiastic and very good team and they are worth watching. We have one of the best coaches in the country inspiring this team. Good luck to these amazing young volleyball players. Bring home the trophy!
