So is Rose. Let’s send him back to Texas.

My, my, all the Ute and Coach K haters are out commenting. It is quite obvious the Utes BB team has some significant issues and are not playing up to their potential. The good coaching that the Utes have with their staff will get good performance by the end of the season. Next year will be quite a bit better. Again, regardless of results, there is no reason ever to play byu in any sports. Focus on the PAC 12 conference.

    Memo to Coach Kry....

    You are an outsider.
Your opinion on this 100 year old rivalry is irrelevant.

Now tie up your laces and play ball.

Leave this "Tradition", which has nothing to do with you, alone.
You don't like it, go back to Montana.

    I agree with Nevadacog
I think there should be a 8 team tournament and the championship is at Vivint arena and the 2 champions host the early rounds.
So next year Utah might have been going to Logan or Ogden can you amagin how much fun Ute fans in cedar city would have. A great way also to bring back the family atmosphere the state is known for.

“You don't get embarrassed by a mid-level WCC team and keep your job at Utah.”

Using that rationale, all Utah basketball coaches should be fired after the first year.

Okay eagle, if your player hadn't thrown that cheap shot under the basket coach Krystkowiak would not have a reason to ask for a step back from a heated rivalry.
Your player apologized to coach Krystkowiak and I assume Brandon but I don't know if he did. At least the rivalry is back on.

No wxute, only Larry Krystkowiak was responsible for the series being suspended. Players sometimes make very regrettable mistakes in the heat of battle, it's only the overpaid coaches and administrators that make a mountain out of a molehill.

Clever tactic by larry k and ute fans.

Since BYU has dominated us for over a decade, let’s just pretend that the game game no longer means anything to us, that way it won’t hurt so bad every time BYU crushes us.

  • wxute Woods Cross, UT

Let's try this again. WWII, Nick Emery and Larry Krystkowiak were responsible for the suspension of Utah/byu rivalry series being interrupted.

Pug: "BYU football meaningless? They beat a Pac 10.2 team, the 6th ranked team at the time in the nation, on the road."

No, they didn't. Try a Big 10 team. In your haste to be cute with the jealous Pac10.2-thing, you lost track of what your subject was about. Obsessed much?

I would remind in-state fans that Utah under their current coach has already ruined long-standing rivalries between the U and the Cats and Aggies. Emery was his Y excuse? What's his excuse for cancelling home-and-home with Weber and Utah State?

And the idea that the PAC schedule is too tough to play a bigger in-state preseason doesn't hold water. The PAC has pretty much been an embarrassment in the NCAA tourney for the past half dozen years - especially last year's 0-3 showing. The two best teams in the West play in mid-major conferences (and it may be more than just two).

The new NET system is going to cost the Utes and the PAC big time since they've scheduled carefully to protect the favoritism of the old RPI system. The funny thing is that potential wins in Ogden or Logan would actually now help the Utes under the new system.

  • Brave Sir Robin San Diego, CA
    Dec. 9, 2018 11:21 a.m.

Who cares about Larry's opinion on the game? He's a dead man walking.

Unlike some other in-state schools, Utah holds coaches accountable for poor performance. LK will be fired at season's end - bank on it. You don't get embarrassed by a mid-level WCC team and keep your job at Utah.

  • Mr. Boris Layton, UT
    Dec. 9, 2018 10:41 a.m.

BYU needs to drop Utah in basketball. Playing the Utes hurts the RPI when tournament time comes around.

Sure Utah has had the edge in the football series recently but in every other sport BYU is better or at least equal. Yet somehow BYU is not on the same level as the Utes. That's a joke. And the supposed 2nd best team in the Pac 12 is only one possession better than BYU in most of those football games.

The only reason Utah joined the Pac 12 instead of BYU is because BYU won't play on Sunday.

By any other factor BYU is better than Utah.

And it looks like the Pac 12 is going to be just as bad at basketball as they are at football.

BYU football meaningless? They beat a Pac 10.2 team, the 6th ranked team at the time in the nation, on the road. Hung with a pathetic Pac 10.2 that backed into the south champiomship because they needed help from another useless ASU team that couldn't win. Meaningless? Not a great year by any means but not meaningless. Anyway, anything that helps you sleep at night to take your mind off yhat train wreck on the hill.

“Coach Krystkowiak gets paid $3.4M, 8th in the nation, to turn us into a NIT team”

You’re dreaming if you think this is an NIT Ute team.

Utah will struggle just to finish with a winning record.

Very disappointed in the play of several Utah players. Their attitudes seem to be way out of wack. Utah is young but BYU made them look bad. Losing is one thing, not being competitive is another. I realize that I'm just a fan but I was surprised at Utah's rotations and who played and who didn't. Being good at practice and being good in game situations are two different things. I know that much after playing some basketball for many years.

Utes are horrid. I hope they do continue the series as it is a good rivalry. Utes have got the last two. Maybe they can do a streak against the U in basketball what the U is doing to them in football.

Utes are going nowhere this year and reminds me when they lost to Baptist State to start the year at home when I was attending there as a student and didn't see another Ute game that year.

I'd say the Utes got hustled by Coach K, who based on his performance is way over paid.

Utes have been so mediocre that the Cougar fans would be wise to limit the projection of how great this win was.

Again, Utah took it's 4th beatdown.

Utah basketball is horrible, just like BYU football, it's a meaningless win.

Here's an option: Don't cancel the game necessarily, just make it a possibility as part of an in-state tournament.

Make this a 3 day affair. Or even have it take place over a couple of weeks. Include BYU, Utah, Utah State, UVU, Weber State, SUU, and a couple of other in-state teams (Dixie? Westminster, or whatever it's called?) 8 team tournament, you could play early round(s) on home floors, them meet up at Vivint Arena for a day or two and play out the rest of the tournament. Utah and BYU would have a chance to play each other, but it wouldn't be a given. This has been proposed before, I say just make it happen.

BYU just played 3 Utah teams in a row. There's no reason why that can't happen again within a tournament style format.

Urban Meyers ruined the Football Rivalry and Larry Krystowiak is killing the Basketball Rivalry.
Since the Utes play in the conference of chumpions they can't afford to compete with us low lifes.
Move on Cougars, it's not worth the hassle.

    Dec. 8, 2018 7:47 p.m.

If I was Coach K - I would pay the $80,000 penalty and avoid playing a good team. His $3.0 million + salary is looking a little overrated about now!!!!

Those who want to cancel a 250+ game history are clueless. Great game. Great rivalry. Would have traded this win for a win in football any day of the week. But thanks gentlemen for showing up and winning impressive in state rivalry games this week!

    "Translation: #$%* no!"

That coach is easy to read. He hates how this rivalry brings out the worst in him and good teams just can't compete. Utah, for all their 7 footers, has no clue what to do with them. BYU seemed to have slam dunk after slam dunk. It was a thing of beauty!

  • Uteology East Salt Lake City, Utah

Utah was blown out by the 4 of the 5 "real" teams we have played so far.

Coach Krystkowiak gets paid $3.4M, 8th in the nation, to turn us into a NIT team. Let's see how he does. So far after the 8th game, we're headed to around a 15 win season.
