They should be favored in 11 of the 12 games. I can see them going 11-1 and
playing in the CCG again.Sadly even if they win and are 12-1, I
don’t see them getting a sniff for the playoff. They won’t have a
signature win on their resume.OSU wins the Big 10, beats a Top 5
Michigan team and doesn’t get in the playoff. I don’t
see a PAC12 team getting in the playoff unless they’re undefeated.
Not sure why the City College fans are upset. The OOC schedule is just as strong
as their conf schedule. Most of the games scheduled have no bearing on the City
College’s standing in the South Div. They can lose all OOC games, all
North Div games, win the five games against the South Div foes and they play in
the CCG. It is sad that 58% of the games played just don’t matter.
Scheduling Big 10, SEC, Big 12 or ACC games does not change anything. This is
like playing golf with someone that gets 11 Mulligans in a round of golf.
I think all P5 teams should have to schedule at least 1 game against another P5
conference opponent and 1 game against a group of 5 opponent (I'll include
independents Notre Dame and even BYU in that) and they are then allowed to only
schedule 1 game against a lesser FBS opponent and no P5 teams should be allowed
to schedule an FCS opponent. Forget the arguments about money for
those smaller schools. For P5 conferences they shouldn't be beating up on
significant lesser programs in meaningless games. All the games should be
meaningful and challenging and for the amount of TV$, athletic budgets, and even
for the fans the games should matter. Big Utah fan but disappointed
in the non-conference schedule.
@Y's lil' bros,Reality and dreams haunt you dear
soul........and have for a long time. All the best to you.
Unfortunately for the cougars they will have the Utes full undivided attention
in 2019. Can you say 9 in a row?!!!

The U really ought to schedule at least one tough non-conference game maybe in
the BIG 10 or SEC as the Y does every year. Playing against either the BIG 10 or
SEC is really a win win for the money and the exposure. Idaho and Northern Ill??
@Tomahawk Red:"So tired of not having a Power 5 opponent out of

@CougarForever:"Whether Ute fans like to admit it or not,
Utah's first 2019 game will be the most important"I can
admit that it will be the most important game Utah plays ... up to that point.
They have nine more games that are far greater in importance. A loss to byu
would be a blip on Utah's record, but has zero affect on the ultimate goal
of winning a conference championship. A 12-1 Utah team would have a shot at the
CFP, and would at worst be in a NY6 game. For byu, an 11-1 record would not get
them a sniff at a NY 6 game unless there was significant carnage at the top of
the football world. That kind of luck happens once in a lifetime. Your team
already used up that luck in 1984. But let's not kid. I see one win in
byu's first 8 games - Toledo. Then byu will finish 3-1, maybe 4-0. I see
a anywhere from 4-8 to 6-6. Maybe they'll get in to another
take-the-bus-to-the-bowl game again. One can dream!Go Utes!
@ Old ball coach,I vehemently agree with you and am hoping that the
FCS-caliber BYU "shadow" won't be scheduled again. I believe that
Utah should schedule Utah public schools ONLY, sparingly, but play h-h series
against mid-majors in recruit-rich regions and P-5 teams every season. My hope
is Utah AD Mark Harlan will cancel BYU in 2021-22 because there is no
"buy-out" clause in that contract and immediately schedule important
schools to the benefit of the U of U in the longterm. We real Utes can only
hope........as of today.
This type of scheduling is holding Utah and the PAC 12 back. Not leaving the
state of Utah, and playing FCS schools at home are not College Football Playoff
worthy! Step outside your comfort zone (UTAH), and play a neutral
site or road game against a Power 5 school? Then people who matter will take
note of what UTAH is about. Local FCS (BIG SKY) teams are not impressing
I truly believe that everyone in the sports world is tired of how BYU and its
fans act. It is all lip service, mean-spirited speculations-assessments,
self-righteous mistreatment of all others, excuses extraordinaire, bizarre and
certainly unrealistic hero-worshipping.......it goes on and on and
on..........?Well, look at where BYU football and basketball is
today.........where they belong and have earned unequivocally and to their
misfortune undoubtedly as the end is near, of course it is.Goooooo
"BYU gets a season-opening tune up game"The Utes need the tune-up.
They are slipping.Utah only needed 10 minutes to put the Las Vegas Bowl
out of reach.Utah needed 17 minutes to win the game this year.

Wow, the bottom feeders of the conference instead of the top teams from the
north. Lucky them.
@Cougar Forever, you have been an Independent so long, that you have clearly
forgotten what it means to play in a conference and play for the conference
championship. For the record, there are exactly nine PAC 12 games that are more
important than the BYU game. Losing one game can mean the difference between
winning the Southern Division, the PAC 12 Championship and perhaps a shot at the
National Championship at some point in time. BYU is probably the 10th most
important game on Utah's schedule, however, many Utah fans would disagree
with that. The real truth is your (BYU) game with Utah is the most important
game of the season for the Cougs. They can handle loosing to USC and other PAC
12 teams, but loosing to Utah again after all those years of loosing will just
simply screw up your entire day along with all the faithful Coug fans that
can't admit that BYU just isn't a power or considered a big deal
anymore. Those days are gone for now. You might live long enough to see that

CougarForever - "Predicting outcomes next year is tricky because teams
obviously change significantly. Utah will lose the heart of its defense (LBs
Hansen and Barton) + some other key players on D and O"The new heart
of the defense will probably be LB's Francis Bernard and Penn State
graduate transfer Manny Bowen. This year was Utah's smallest group of
seniors, so many players return."Utah's first 2019 game
will be the most important"Utah's most important OOC game, but
the game shouldn't be most important for BYU. Yes, fans want to interrupt
the streak, they should be more concerned about Boise State and Utah State. A
loss to Utah can be explained away with "talent gap" or "bad
coaching" depending on your mood, but why are the Cougars losing to BSU and
USU? That's the true sign of the program's downward turn. BYU cannot
right the ship and tell they handle the basics.
Whether Ute fans like to admit it or not, Utah's first 2019 game will be
the most important -- no specific predictions for now but I like what Wilson
brings (the pick-6 at RES this year notwithstanding).Next
year's set-up for the Utes seems much more favorable than this year's
schedule with 7 home and 5 away games (including against us in Provo). You get Oregon State rather than Oregon -- a clear benefit. Cal may be as good
as Stanford next year so that will be a wash. The two byes are well placed.
PAC-12 South teams will have nice byes except Arizona which, like Utah this
year, will play 9 straight weeks without a break (Utah is the 8th team AZ plays
during that stretch). As noted, Utah won't have back-to-back
away games unlike the two times this happened in 2018.Predicting
outcomes next year is tricky because teams obviously change significantly. But, back to the important first game of 2019: We will miss C Kaufusi and
Takitaki on D but have few other notable losses. Utah will lose the heart of its
defense (LBs Hansen and Barton) + some other key players on D and O and I have
no expectation that Utah will ever have a good P-5 QB. I think we may have a
chance on Aug 29.
top of the world:The cougars were NOT ranked in the Top-25 this year
on the merits of the "power of the name BYU". They got there on the
merits of the "power of the name Wisconsin". Well THAT and the fact
that Wisconsin was proven to have been extremely overrated. Had the cougars
beaten Wisconsin at the END of the season, nobody would have cared, because
Wisconsin would have been an unranked team. But any time a 1-loss team beats a
team in the Top-5, they ALWAYS surface in the Top-25 in the next poll release.
Did you really not know that, or were you being deliberately disingenuous?
I see two losses in a very favorable schedule, yet one that will not be easy.
Looking forward to next season already. Sure glad I can enjoy each game and not
keep spouting off that one of the teams should be dropped. History between the
two schools has been great. An eight game streak in favor of the Utes must feel
pretty good. As to having nothing to win and lots to lose, a big chuckle for
those comments. Did y'all notice how quick the Y was put into the top 25
this season? They didn't deserve it, but it testifies to the power of the
name BYU. Some will not believe that comment, but I couldn't care less
about that. If they are fortunate to win a few up front next season the same
attention will be given. I recognize that as a fairly substantial
'if'.I'm an avid, faithful fan of the Y and while I
get tired of reading all of the 'drop the Y' comments, I can handle
it. I'm not into the 'coulda, shoulda' arena, but I
will say we very easily could have beaten Cal, NIU and Boise State. We lost and
those games are history, but who's to say (other than the haters) what next
year will bring? As to Utah's sched, best of success. I'll
miss Chase.Thanks, DN. Good stuff!
How about Utah plays someone decent in out of conference scheduling? No not
knocking BYU, but it is what it is. BYU is a #64 team. Idaho St is a joke and
N ILL is not a great game. Remember when Utah played Michigan?Quit
with the crappy preseason and play someone. Please.
Avoral - "Come on, play the Aggies!"I like that the Aggies
don't feel like they have to measure themselves against the Utes to feel
good about themselves. Still, it would be nice for the two teams to play. Any
idea why Athletic Director Josh Hartwell hasn't tried to schedule a game?
Nothing they can do about it but there aren't many teams on there that were
better than about .500 this year, so it should be an easy schedule.
Spokane Ute - Spokane, WADec. 4, 2018 2:58 p.m.blue & white -
Boise, IDI'm sure you predicted the same thing this year. How
did that work out? Keep hoping for Utah's demise, it only makes success
that much sweeter.-----------------That's the funny
thing about byu fans. Every single year they make these claims...
"can't wait to beat you"... "Utah gonna lose to X Y and
Z"... and on and on and on.Seen it every year since 2010. Then
they lay an egg.For fans of a team in an 8-0 hole the last eight
meetings, you'd think by now they'd have learned to keep a lid on it
until that elusive win actually happens. But then we wouldnt be
talking how 'unique' they are.
Come on, play the Aggies!
This looks like a 10-2 season is very achievable. If Moss returns, who knows
how high the Utes can soar? Yeah, I can always dream.
USC/Washington State, back to back Texas Tech air raid offenses.Nice to
have that in state rival back in the traditional September slot.Nice to
have our PAC rival at the end of the season again.
That is a crappy non-conference schedule. I like BYU on there, but Northern
Illinois. Why... who cares about that game. Play USU, or another old rival
from the MWC, not a G5 school nobody cares about. You've only got 3 games
to schedule do better than that.

"something Mr. Harlan corrects, and soon."Tomahawk Red:Keep in mind this schedule was set by Dr. Hill several years ago. Give
Harlan a year to grow into the job, and the day we all see coming will arrive,
when he can demonstrate to all--including the legislature--that BYU-P has proven
itself a "B" team.

don't replace guys like that in a year.Utah at BYU - WinUtah vs Northern Illionois - WinUtah vs Idaho - WinUtah at USC -

they will not have played anyone to the caliber of USC. On road, calling early

gone.Utah at Oregon State - WinUtah vs Arizona State - Win, at home!
This game is always close and tough.Utah vs California - WinUtah at
Washington - Win, I think Utah's defense is better coming back next year.
Browning and Gaskin are goneUtah vs. UCLA - As much as it pains me to say
this, Win, but closer than this year. UCLA is getting better. Especially if
they can figure out the Defense and realize that you just can't try to
outscore everyone for the win. Closing out the season averaging 30 plus points
per game after the loss to Utah.Utah at Arizona - Loss, there is always
one for Utah, and I am going to take this game. Utah vs. Colorado - Win10-2 Overall and 7-2 Pac12, but still going to say South Champs, playing
Stanford for the P12 'Ship!
Two good games to start the season. Who knows what BYU will bring, but they will
have a year more experience. NIU is returning most of their impact players and
is poised to knock off Utah if they don't play well. NIU was tough this
year and will be a year tougher next year.
Favorable schedule; especially compared to this year. Toughest games appear to
be @ USC and @ Washington. I agree with others; play one tough non conference
game at a so called neutral site. I.e. Georgia, Auburn, Florida in Atlanta. Or
Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M in Dallas. Drop BYU; Utah has everything to lose
and nothing to win by playing BYU.
At USC and at UW...Overall, excited for next year...
No back-to-back conference roadies next year. That will make a huge difference.
Utah won the PAC South with two sets of back-to-back road games and a tougher
overall schedule.It will be a fun year .... again.Go
The BYU "bye" in week #1 is appropriate. At least Utah gets $1.375
million from the Y to show up for a couple hours.Gooooooo MUSS!
I think it would be great to drop ID ST and play a power 5 school, even at a
Going out to 2027, the differences between the Utah and Colorado OOC Schedules
is shocking!!!!! Utah has one Power 5 Team scheduled - Baylor. Colorado has
Nebraska, Texas A&M, Minnesota, TCU, Georgia Tech, Northwestern and Kansas
State. Utah schedules like a lot of the SEC Schools.
Getting 2 byes is fantastic and will help focus the team throughout the season.
Great schedule, but missing a non conference A game.Go Utes !
Weaker schedule with Cal and Oregon State than this years #18 SOS.With Moss, Utah should be a favorite to win the title with U$C being adumbster
fire who has a better chance of landing Urban Meyer than winning the P12.
The Utah schedule is very nice as it stands today. We could actually run-it
undefeated if we know who is coming back, the O-line gets sorted, as well as our
safeties and linebackers.......could be a great season for Utah folks.......?
