Trump says Mia Love already lost race because she 'gave me no love ... too bad'

With ballots still to count, both Ben McAdams and Mia Love still see a path to victory

Mia Love was proactive in helping the man return to the states who was held in Venezuela--including contacting the President for his help. In January he referred to Haiti and African countries as being "*hole countries," then later denied saying that. Since Mia is a Haitian American, why would she "show love" to someone who has made such a remark? And here again he took another swipe at her by making such a rude public comment. I admire that she can actually work with him without publicly reacting to his poor taste and egotism.

In politics, there are pragmatists, and egotists.
Richard Nixon was a pragmatist. In the days when the Republican party still had moderates, even liberals, he famously told Republican candidates he would support or condemn them, whichever they thought would be best for them. Similarly, he would not mind if they kept their distance from him, if that could enhance their likelihood of victory.
Donald Trump, by comparison, is an egotist: Embrace me, even if it alienates the swing voters who often make the difference between winning and losing.

In Queens County, New York, where Trump and I grew up in very different neighborhoods...his wth large brick homes facing manicured lawns, mine with semi-attached row houses where grandparents lived in small apartments beneath their married children with grandchildren...I often noticed a sense of making everything about me.
Taking too much credit when your team won. Accepting too little blame when they lost.
But most of all, injecting yourself into things where you or your opinion don't really matter.
The fact is that Mia Love's campaign must have realized that a full-on embrace of Trump would discourage voters who were turned off by his abrasive, insulting, and often cruel personal style. Ben McAdams, who would never be considered liberal enough to be elected to the San Francisco city council, offered a reasonable alternative. So Mia Love, wisely, kept her distance, which offended Trump.
Because in the end, to Donald Trump it is not about Mia Love, or the people of Utah or of the United States. It is always, and only, about him.

Interestingly enough, Fox on Channel 13 said that there were about 200,000 votes that have not yet been take care of Utah and Salt Lake Counties Clerks. And they said that about 100,000 of the votes that have yet to be opened in Utah County would be a 3 to 1 vote with Love winning that and in Salt Lake County it would be 1 to 1. They also said it would be 2 weeks before it would be finalized.

This would also be Prop 2 and others. And this also brings in the Holladay vote on the old Cottonwood Mall development. The Utah Supreme Court has yet to had down their opinion which will be the final on this development.

So this time around there were a lot more citizens voting; something that hasn't happened for quite a few years.

It is interesting, apparently we do not have final winners yet.

Mia lost because of her financial misdeeds and her affiliation with a party that has lost its moral compass. Utah once a legislature and US representatives dominated by white, male and Mormon, Utah is becoming a true reflection of itself as multi-cultural. We are a state of many colors, races, sexual orientations and religions including those of us with no religion. This thrusts Utah onto the world stage as a true reflection of diversity!

Many people commenting are missing what actually happened.
Trump helped Mia at her request to free an American prisoner from Utah being held in Venezuela for two years.
He then offers to help her with a campaign rally in SLC.
She not only says no but continues to distance herself from him by continuing to call him out on a number of issues.
Looking at how close this race still is two days after election day, She would have certainly won had she allowed Trump to hold a rally for her in SLC.
He flew to the whistle stop town of Elko for a rally a week before election day. Elko !
Mia should have accepted Trumps offer of campaign help.

DNews should not have gotten political and tried to sway votes away from Love.
She was by far a better candidate and hopefully will pull out a last minute win.

Sad to see Trump would not have helped an American hostage unless he thought he was going to get some political favor from Love, but that just shows how awesome Mia really is.

Trump is right. Mia Love’s District is R+13. Her betrayal of her original campaign promises and her most recent full throated support of open borders suppressed her base and lost her election. Why would conservatives vote for democratic policies?

Mia likely lost. That doesn't stop Trump from trashing anyone who he feels didn't sufficiently bow down to him despite Mia supporting nearly all of his legislative agenda notwithstanding a few "hey don't say mean things about third-world countries" from Mia.

It's sad to see all the mental gymnastics some conservatives and evangelicals use to justify supporting a man so utterly unfit for this office.

@Red Smith: "Why Republicans bash President Trump makes no sense...
    Why is that?"

The "elite political class" of both parties consider politics to be a game that only they are allowed to play, and play by their own rules. Much of the "fighting" is just a show, like professional wrestling.
Trump comes along with a genuine desire to defend America and America's principles. He upsets the political elites of both parties. Trump isn't a professional politician. He is a wheeler-dealer, leader, businessman. So Trump makes gaffs, says un-PC things, and generally sidesteps the power that the political class believe they deserve.
Take Mitt Romney for example: Mitt is quite obviously the quintessential example of the "elite political class". No wonder that Mitt was one of Trump's harshest critics before Trump was elected.

Trump's comment was justified. Mia Love has been a virulent anti-Trump from the beginning and has consistently stood in opposition to principles outlined in the Republican Party Platform and U.S. Constitution relating to immigration. Democrats and the corrupt Republican Establishment Wing might like that but Mia Love is supposed to be a Republican who cares about her oath of office.

UtahBlueDevil: "…because Mia Love wasn't loyal enough, Republicans voted in a Democrat."

Off year elections are about turnout. Turning people off, means they won't turn out to vote for you. It's kind of like if you go around bad mouthing your neighbors, when you need a hand they might be too busy.

Utahans understand that Trump has weaknesses. But they elected him for his strengths, not his weaknesses. If your baby has mole on her nose, you might expect that someone who hates you to point it out. But having friends do it becomes intolerable. Especially if they are doing it alongside the haters. You end up distancing yourself from them.

Everyone knows what Trumps warts are. But now, his strengths have our economy booming as well as many other positives for America. Seeing Mia Love join the chorus of haters, turned off her supporters. They didn’t vote for McAdams, they just didn't vote for either.

I respect Mia Love more because she called Trump out when he was wrong. I have very little respect for Republicans that criticize Democrats but then cover for Trump when he acts and speaks poorly. There is too much party loyalty over loyalty and fidelity to values and our country. Trump is a good politician, but a poor leader. He is not honest. He has lived a life that conflicts with Utah values--how can Utahn's support Trump and keep a straight face?

Good leadership if more than winning. It is winning the right way. The ends do not justify the means. How we behave, how we live, and how we treat others is often most important in life.

I have respect for Mia Love. I am confident that if she ran for office anywhere else in the state, other than Salt Lake County, she would win. She represented an area that voted for Mattheson--clearly not a strong Republican district. So Trump shouldn't criticize Love. Love is a better person by far than Donald Trump.
