    What is up with Grimes and Pugh? I thought Pugh was supposed to be really good. Multiple times in that game I could pick out a lineman who was confused and ended up not blocking anybody as a linebacker or safety ran past him and he seemed to be saying 'what was that?'

    And is Grimes calling plays for the offense or are the coaches simply spinning an arrow attached to some cardboard and running whatever play it lands on? Actually that might work out better than what they've been doing.

    So, back to the drawing board to find different coaches for our offense? Maybe this time an OC who has actual prior experience and success as an OC? Being the training ground for coaches new to their positions has gotten old in a hurry.

    Well, currently they are bowl eligible regardless of what happens the next three games, and BYU's status is. . . . . .?

    Lots of u fans commenting on BYU. It must be a sign that their pac ten south title hopes were flushed with that horrible loss to a very bad ASU team. Makes me smile a tiny bit.

    Compared to last year this coaching staff is very experienced but will need an influx of talented players or perhaps a magic wand to overcome the future schedules. In today's sports world immediate success is expected.

    Referees: Grade A
    Effective and correct use of video replay. The replay official can call for review when
    * there is "reasonable evidence to believe an error was made in the initial on-file ruling"
    * the play is reviewable
    * the outcome of the review would "have a direct, competitive impact" on the game.

    Good job by this crew.

    How can you not give the offense an 'A', after all, they scored a touchdown this game?

    Defense deserves a better grade. BYU turned it over 3 times and had a terrible kick off followed by a terrible punt, and a missed field goal all put them in tough positions. Yet, they only gave up 21 points to a potent offense that averages over 40.

    12 more points and BYU is 7-2.

    Totally disagree here .... the O line grades out with a strong F ..... the same grade as they have deserved for every game this year after the Wisconsin game .... one of the poorest O lines in recent memory !

    @Chicago Coug

    "I’ve coached football and continue to referee football at a high level (which makes it hard for me to follow BYU on Saturdays), and I have never in my life seen a coaching staff so overwhelmed and out of their league by the situation."

    And the really sad part for BYU-P fans is, that's the best coaching staff you're capable of getting.

    How about a grade for coaching? I give the coaches a D for awful play calling at critical times. You have a minute to go and you run the ball multiple times in a row? When the running game has not worked well. Run out of time. Time for Coach Grimes to take the training wheels off. Hope he learns fast and improves. Seems like a nice guy with some expectations, but he should get his OL to play better by this point in the season. They are going backwards. No push and horrible pass protection. Here we go again for another poor season for a team that has a history of winning......hard for us fans. Excited about Wilson. He is so much better than Mangum and carried the offense. The team should be better next year with him at the helm.

    Thank goodness there wasn’t a grade for coaching... then again can you get worse than an “F?” I’ve coached football and continue to referee football at a high level (which makes it hard for me to follow BYU on Saturdays), and I have never in my life seen a coaching staff so overwhelmed and out of their league by the situation. It’s too bad because I really do love BYU’s coaching staff and want them to have better success. Good luck against UMass. By the way, there’s probably only one sports network under BYUtv and that’s the PAC12 network. Why is Utah the only game on that channel each week?

    These DNews grades are justified. BYU is FCS quality, not a FBS team. Their new rival will be Dixie State in a couple of years.

    Get used to the heartbreak Brandon and Coug Fans. Holmoe hired a no experience head coach who hired his buddies with no experience. Why would you expect anything but mediocrity? The BYU hubris thought you were Notre Dame. You have 16m members (4m active) of which to recruit from to their 1.2 Billion members to recruit from. So by basic math you have just over 1 percent of a recruiting base with which to compete. It's laughable. You might got 3-9 next year and 1-11 in 2020. Embrace it. It is who You are. You are getting exactly what you signed up for.
