Yellowstone sits on one of the worlds largest "hot spot" that first appeared off the Oregon Cost, migrated east to form the Craters of the Moon and the volcanic areas in Southern Idaho. Yellowsone is the locus of the hot spot and if a massive eruption on the scale of the Craters of the Moon occur, the poison gasses could (and probably will) kill millions while possibly triggering a "volcanic winter" similar to that caused by Krakatoa in the early 1800's where crops failed world wide.
