It doesn't matter if Kavanaugh did what is claimed.

A person is innocent until PROVEN guilty!

Losing this concept will destroy a civilization.

Was there any experts who verified that Kavanaugh's diary was: authentic, from the time period it is reputed to be from, that it was in his handwriting, and that nothing had been added or deleted from it?

If it hasn't been authenticated, how can it used as evidence? Otherwise it is just a she said-he wrote allegation.

bassoonlady claims "and one of them was a drunken woman."

She just testified to having one beer, that is not drunk, even by Utah measure.

But, keep trying to blame the victim.

Why not let the FBI investigate, why the fear from the GOP.

Those assuming she is lying are just partisan hacks, only 3 people know the truth, and 2 of them were drunken frat boys.

and one of them was a drunken woman. Why is the testimony of a drunken woman worth more than the testimony of two drunken men? They were all drunk. Is this another example of reverse sexism? (answer: yes, it is)

What ever happened to your innocent until proven guilty. 80 years ago in the south a white could accuse a person of color of a crime and the person of color was assumed guilt. If you don't believe me, watch "To kill a Mockingbird". We called this racism. Fast forward 80 years, now a women can accuse a man of sexual assault with no evidence other than she says it happened, and the man has to prove he's innocent of the crime. What is this called, reverse sexism? How do you prove you're innocent when the accuser can't remember any of the key facts in the acquisition other than he did it.

If you're a white conservative male nominated for an government position that could possible affect Roe v Wade be ready to have your name dragged through the mud and your reputation ruined.

    I know.
Just like in OJs calendar where he showed the entry on 6/12/94 which said "definitely not killing my wife".

Its hilarious that some people think this is some winning argument. As if he was going to write "got blackout drunk and tried to rape a sophomore" in his notes.

"If all these people dispute what she says, why doesn't Grassley bring them in to testify. Seems like it would be a slam dunk, unless of course they are willing to tell FOX News something different than they are willing to say under oath with the threat of jail time."

Read any story by most any news source. Ford's witnesses have sworn that they have no knowledge of the events stated by Ford. It would also seem to be a slam dunk for the democrats if there was actually any evidence (proof) of wrongdoing. Or are people guilty solely based on an accusation with no details other than stating that it happened? How many times in recent past have women claimed rape only to find out that they lied about it?

Timing, accusations, sensationalism, political agenda, character assassinations, "#METOO" movement, nothing rally happened, more accusers with unsubstantiated stories, Trump involvement. All of these things are playing out in an orchestrated manner to derail a highly qualified judge. American politics at its finest (not!).

Wow! I think the blubbering is a little too much.

Judge Kavanaugh is absolutely having a fit. He is whining and crying and carrying on about being so picked on. Like Trump in his tirades, EVERYBODY is picking on him, especially the media.

He's going on about so-called false charges of a fight he had in Rhode Island that was "breathlessly reported" by the media. That's funny. I never heard a thing about that. Apparently the media didn't breathlessly report it enough.

And the expression on his face?! Whew! If looks could kill, the whole viewing public would be dead.

He's carrying on about people slandering him by calling him "evil." But with the evil looks he's giving, he's only backing up their claims. Uh oh . . . Now he's crying. No . . . Really . . . He's literally sniveling like a 2-year-old caught with his hand in the candy jar . . . Poor, poor guy.

And this is the guy who Republicans think should be on the Supreme Court for Life? . . .This sniveling whiner with all the ethics of greedy two-year old?

Well, they voted for Trump . . . So I guess rage. copious whining, and sniveling are considered virtues by the GOP.

It makes me feel even more thankful I'm a Democrat.

That premise only applies in a court of law and due process. Not the court of public opinion.

    @eigerjoe:

"Why are some people so adamant that he is guilty at this point? "

It's a bigger problem than just this one issue.

Too many of us made the decision on who to believe based on what we already believed about Kavanaugh.

Those who believed he was wrong for the country, and was only nominated to protect Donald Trump are (roughly) 99.9% convinced that Ford is telling the complete truth.

Those that supported his nomination before the allegation was made public are (roughly) 99.9% still supportive, and see that the lack of evidence and collaborating testimony seriously weakens her allegation.

Personally, I try to judge these by the standard of "what if the politics were reversed, what would I think then?"

And although I would *want* more, and be really mad at the Senator who held onto the allegation for so long, I'd see that the complete lack of evidence is not a reason to withhold a confirming vote.

But for many people, "what if the politics were reversed?" is never a consideration. They only care about the now.

And by "many people" I mean just about 99% of our elected Senators.

Judge Kavanaugh has been accused of sexual assault - period. No complaint has been filed with the police. There are no known collaborative witnesses or physical evidence to this alleged crime - only hearsay. He has not been arrested, charged, or convicted of this alleged crime. There is no credible proof of this alleged crime. Why are some people so adamant that he is guilty at this point? On what legal basis do they find him guilty? Is this what our country has come to? Guilty until proven innocent?

If it was as bad as she is making it sound as if her life was in jeopardy and she was for certain it was Kavanaugh she would have made it an issue long ago when Kavanaugh was on the second highest court in the country. The lawyer representing her is also a legal council for McCabe and Soros and the other accusers have even less credibility than Ford. This only makes real victims of sexual abuse marginalized like Keith Ellison’s ex girlfriend.

This conspiracy was well played out by the democrats who held onto this information until the last minute because they think that they can hold off another Supreme Court nomination until after the next election where they think that they can turn the table around in their favor. But this strategy isn’t going over too well with the American public who see it as another Salem witch trial played out in Washington.

Wow! Did you see Lyndsey Graham go off just now?

The poor little fella is hysterical. He was going on about how Dr Ford said she was was "afraid to fly," but somehow she got on an airplane and flew out east anyway.

Yes Lyndsey. That's some very damning evidence against her!

Ha! Poor little Lyndsey Graham acted like a deranged and gibbering madman. But then I realized, I'm not his audience.

His audience looks at reality in a whole different way.

His Republican supporters probably think Graham's silly tirade is strong evidence of his Trump-like greatness.

A statement late Wednesday, by Judiciary Committee Republicans revealed that they had spoken with two men who have said it was possible that they were actually responsible for an alleged sexual assault in the early 1980s that Palo Alto University Professor Christine Blasey Ford is blaming on Kavanaugh.

    I believe Dr Ford.

    I don't believe Judge Kavanaugh.

The rush to confirm only supports these beliefs. The Supreme Court can operate just fine with only 8 Justices. So, the trump party alleged when they refused to vote on Merrick Garland. Therefore, the only reason that the Senate majority wants the quick vote lies in their understanding that Dr Ford is credible and Kavanaugh is probably not truthful. Yet the trump party wants that seat filled and fast.

Is this the way we are supposed to operate in this country?

No details, all of her "witnesses" denying that it happened, his proof that he was not there at the time it was supposed to have happened. It's easy to make an allegation against anyone. But, she has no proof that anything really happened. Bearing false witnesses? Now, someone else claiming that he, not Kavanaugh, was the attacker. So many holes in her story.
Just think if this was your child that was accused with such a flimsy story. Who would you believe?

  • eigerjoe Sandy, UT

I am probably showing my age, but I remember a time when "a person was innocent until proven guilty." Today it seems that it is the other way around - i.e. "an accused person is considered guilty until proven innocent." I believe Judge Kavanaugh is innocent until proven guilty. I say proceed with the vote until he is convicted of this alleged crime. If he is proven guilty and convicted of a serious crime - he should be dealt with at that time.
