Olympus opponents have the lowest win percentage out of any of the teams in the
top 25 currently, at just .320. That is a major factor into who the best teams
are NOW. I agree, they should be in the top 5 for 5A. But scoring 49 points a
game and letting up 6.2 per game isn't as impressive when the teams they
play just aren't that good.
ViaMofasa - Those are all good points and are valid measurables when making
current power ranking. But folks a power ranking is used to determine who the
best teams are NOW. Not in the past or in the future. Lastly, your statistics
are flawed. Of the 17 losses, 5 came at the hands of Olympus so throw those out.
The number is actually 8-12. What if those teams had played a "lesser"
team other than Olympus? Would they win them all, half or none? That is why the
strength of schedule is not the only static that matters. Olympus could play
Highland tomorrow and get blown away. Then week 6 ranking adjusts. So my
concluding point is statistically Olympus is in another league TODAY. That might
DK,Maybe it is because Olympus has played teams with a combined
record of 8-17? They have played NOBODY, and like our friend from Cache Valley
said it will be all played out on the field. 5A is the most competitive and
Olympus might actually win a playoff game? To me Highland is the only team in
that region that might make some noise in the playoffs only because of their
defense. I am looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.
dk, I know exactly what this is and how these rankings work.
It's obvious that whoever is making these rankings doesn't agree with
how you feel about Olympus and feels they aren't worthy of a top 5 ranking.
If they are all that, they will continue to play well and make a run in the
playoffs. My forecast is they won't make it through the second round of the
playoffs if that. That is just MY view you are welcome to have your own.
Sports Nutz - What? It's a week 5 power ranking. Meaning, who are the best
teams through week 5. It's not a forecast? Look at the win\loss, opponents
and stats. How much more on the field could you get.Olympus 5-0 5
(PS245/PA31 88% score differential)
Unlike college football, these classification championships will be won on the
field. So people need to relax as these are just someones rankings and mean
nothing with regards to which teams are actually the best in state. If
"your team" is the best team, then prove it on the field by winning the
Olympus is undefeated, has scored 245 points, allowed only 31 points and
isn't even in the top five. There isn't another team in the state that
is even close. What is the standard for the top five? Likeability? How about a
ranking based facts.
Your 2A rankings make no sense. San Juans only in State loss is to South Summit.
Delta has played one of the tougher pre-season schedules and was driving for
the win against San Juan with less than 5 minutes. Rankings should be1
South Summit2 San Juan3 Beaver4 Delta5 Millard
How is Olympus not included in the top 5? They’ve been one of the most
impressive teams in the entire state.
Juan Diego is 2-3 and lost to unranked North Sanpete and somehow manages to stay
in the top 5 in 3A (only ranked team with a losing record 2A-6A.) San Juan beats
Beaver in Beaver (27-25) and Delta who San Juan beat (34-16) last week beats
Millard and both Millard and Beaver are ranked ahead of San Juan? Mr. Edwards
your bias is showing.
