'Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu…called on Washington to "remain loyal to ties based on traditional friendship and NATO alliance" with Turkey.'

Isn't that rich! Maybe the turkeys could have remained loyal during the Iraq war! In fact, we would have been happy if they had just faked it.

This is much larger than the American pastor. Turkey stabbed both Presidents Bush and Obama in the back after they bet over backwards to be conciliatory. Trump appears to be taking the "bad cop" approach from the outset. Turkey deserves the bad cop treatment.

Turkey can turn this around very quickly if they release Brunson and enter into trade negotiations with the US to eliminate tariffs and subsidies.

A real leader would do it. But, my guess is Erdogan is too prideful, too arrogant. Not to say Trump isn’t also prideful and arrogant.

But, Trump has a much, much bigger stick in this dispute. And he looks determined to use it to beat the heck out of the Turkish economy until they release Brunson, and give Trump the political “win” that he wants.

But, alas, I think it must get worse before it gets better.
