Has he peaked academically? Seems most Ute football players are no better academically than they were in high school. Perhaps it is the long-running code of conduct violations.

"We told him, ‘You can be the dude this year. And if you practice like the dude, you’re going to be the dude.’"

That, or El Duderino, or His Dudeness, or Duder, if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

@ at long last. . . "Let us not get too hyped up about the Utes yet. Performance before praise"

    Sage advice, couldn't agree more.

    Mike,

"Let us not get to hyped up about the Utes yet. Performance before praise. Doesn't all the pre-season hype remind you of the annual situation of another team in the state?"

That's absolutely true in many cases.

BYU used to have 12 games a year where 9 in conference held 7 easy wins so then you have 3 big teams to knock off, and if you win more than 2 of those 3 games on paper it's a great year.

Fans got accustomed to the routine, Utah was a great game because it was the conference championship game most of the time.

I'd certainly say that BYU fans are disproportionately overly optimistic compared to Utah fans in general - the funny thing is that on these comment boards it's probably the opposite. Comments like Moss being one of the best RBs in the nation or Tuttle being NFL ready (before taking a snap in a game) is sort of funny.

As a fan base, historically BYU has been obnoxious - but no serious BYU fan projects more than 8 wins, meanwhile Utah fans are all over championships and playoffs.

Maybe the wind is shifting, I hope so, it's embarrassing and distracting to have such a lack of grip on reality when both teams need fundamentals to grow.

    Rumnuts my friend,

I respect everyone initially, then slowly it becomes based on merit. You are a great guy and very knowledgeable about football, you've earned my respect, although we vehemently disagree on some topics you enlighten the conversation in general.

Others don't get my respect because they can take from conversations but never seem to add to it, unlike you where we interpret facts and stats differently but enough to have great conversations - which is better to have with one who disagrees rather than agrees.

It's ironic to see people proclaim BYU football as dead and broken due to one bad season in a decade, and in the same breath proclaim confidence in Utah winning the PAC-S when they never have.

Zack Moss is a great player, would you call him one of the best in the nation?

And after being called out by another fan about unrealistic expectations would you have defended your remarks?

Based on this individual's typical comments, it's deeply ironic, to a degree that I find humorous.

I hope Moss has a great year, he could make the NFL, but it's very premature to give him such accolades in advance.

    @London Josh,

We Utes know BYU fans all-too well. You people love your heroes and sports teams. I can relish in that.

@London Josh, the epitome of "irony" is BYU football and basketball in the 21st century. I know your faith, opinions, hopes, prayers, etc......

You really are an intellect and know truth. When you talk "ball" you are a champ! When you prognosticate about BYU "glory," you are always wrong as truth proved that fact.

You are a good person and I so admire you. M.

Apples-to-oranges.....I see predominantly praise for what’s already occurred & what it MIGHT portend for this year.

Only tds is undefeated in the preseason.....No other program even remotely touches them.

    Go Utes!

Moss only cares about gaining more than 45 yards vs BYU'S phenomenal defense!

At his best he runs with the violence of Devontae Booker and the heart of Joe Williams. He is going to be an All Conference player who is mentioned as an All American. He will play on Sundays. The best thing about this for the Utes is that the reason he improves and grows is because he has a guy right behind him who might very well be just as good. If Zack Moss has improved from last season--he will give opposing defenses nightmares.

Coach McDonald came as a package deal with Troy Taylor. No one has been talking about him but I think he might be a great coach. Moss was just another back that had some good yards year 1. Then last year he grew as a player tremendously. Coincidence it was Coach McDonald’s year 1?

Remember that Armand Shyne was ahead of Moss two years ago and again last year looking to be be the starter before his arm injury. Just imagine if Shyne grows as much as Moss in 2018. We could be looking at two all PAC-12 caliber backs on the same team.

Hands-down, 1 of the top RBs in the nation/conference!

I remember when the light finally came on for him against USC & the absolute violence w/which he ran during that game.....Heck, he literally had defenders bouncing off of him, including USC’s stud MLB, Cameron Smith!

Man, we’re straight STACKED @ RB!

    Go ZM!

    Go Utes!
