    @Rubydo
"What is Loves experience and knowledge of worldwide business and economics compared to Trumps personal credentials that she should throw herself in the middle of it?"

I hope that you forgot the sarcasm tag... Mr. Trump's vaunted "business experience" is bankrupting companies and not paying bills. I trust most brand new Business graduates experience more than I trust Mr. Trump's.

Conservatives bad mouthing Mia. Wow! They are a divided party. The trade issues are causing issues for all Americans, and many small businesses here in Utah. Trump has no plan and no forward thought. It is damaging America.

Finally someone from the GOP stood up. Odd that is was Mia. And they were soundly attacked for having an opinion by their own party. . Wow. Mia should change parties, make advances for race, the middle class, protect seniors, the environment., social security and our sacred lands. Something the GOP has failed miserably at.

But Conservatives keep attacking their own party. It's what will bring them down , and their pro rich policies that are putting millions more into poverty. Their tax scam for the ultra rich is hurting his own supporters. That includes the outrageous tariffs, and trade war that Trump has caused. Hurting the poor and middle class.

I wonder who will benefit from all this? Not the poor and middle class. But the rich will somehow survive and get richer off the GOP.

    @oneoldman

You refer to President Trump's "racism". Why?

Please give examples to support your claim. This is the sort of "speculation" that results in some of my comments being denied.

Many of us are quite weary of such comments being tossed around. I hope your reasons don't include his reference to illegal immigrants who come here and commit crimes.

Such a comment is not racist. It is a comment about criminals and not about any ethnic group.

Mia love is an opportunist. She has voted with Ryan and the administration 96% of the time. Her votes have damaged Utahans health care, public lands and the environment. If re elected and if she serves a total of 5 years, she will get retirement and health care benefits for life at taxpayer expense.

I was in her open hours meeting as reported here. She deflected more questions than she answered.

I am part of the group CD4 Coalition in the article. We are a group of citizens whose primary purpose is to hold elected officials accountable. Part of that accountability is access for the purpose of discussing our concerns. Mia Love held "open office hours" Aug. 8 at 10:00 a.m. There were about twenty people there counting our group. Each group of five or six were allowed about fifteen minutes of her time.

This article highlights why more useful public access is so important. When only a few people are allowed discussion, Mia is able to control the narrative coming out. This article is an example of how Mia Love was able to bullet point her campaign rhetoric without any contrast to community concerns. This is the nature of these very small gatherings. It's about the only way a reporter can construct what happened.

We believe important issues face citizens of CD4. We believe it is imperative our elected officials be held accountable to their constituents by making themselves available through public access events such as much larger gatherings over specific issues or town halls in which a variety of concerns can be voiced.

Mia is walking on thin ice regarding her chances of getting re-elected. I think it would be in her best interest to get behind the President and show some enthusiastic support or she will find herself on the outside looking in.

    =====

And that is exactly why we need to clean house in the House. If GOP representatives from all states had the courage to stand up and call t rump out for his lies, racism, hatred, misogyny and just plain greedy stupidity, our nation would be much better for it.

We don't need loyal party members. We need American patriots willing to stand up to him and stop his nonsense.

More and more I build some grudging respect for Mia. She is the ONLY member of Utah's delegation to Congress with even a smidge of good sense and honesty. She's in a tough spot -- trying to maintain her balance while walking a political tightrope with t rump jiggling the other end of it.

But she and all our other GOP Congress members need to be voted out of office so sensible Americans may begin the process of actually draining the swamp. It's going to require a complete flushing of incumbents in Congress -- on both sides of the aisle. We need a fresh flow of independents and no more party nonsense.

Reelection is on the table. That is all this is about. She is trying to steal a few votes from McAdams. Now don't get me wrong, I want her to win over McAdams. But this is why I cannot stand politicians. They are all fake and out for themselves.

Thus the reason I love Trump. He is just and American who loves his country and is doing what is best.

Mia wants to just go after China, because they are the biggest and baddest at trade. But she doesn't want to go after anyone else who may be a bit smaller but are doing the same thing as China. So I guess if you are going to stop drugs from doing their harm, you just go after the worst one and then the others will go away and stop hurting people also.

Just looking for votes, and leaning on the left foot to do so.

I would like to see and talk with my elected leaders.

These “Telephone Town Halls” are a joke!

So who gets invited to these small meetings in her office?

Have you ever tried to call one of them?

I honestly feel our elected officials are hiding from the populace.

Past trade deals have been a disaster. Hundreds of billions per year with deficits.--Deficits higher than our military funding.

Donald Trump has had some foreclosures and Payton Manning had some interceptions & fumbles, but they are some of the best.

I'll take Trump over Mia when it comes to trade deals.

Ms Love is campaigning for her third term in office.

Could any one please tell me specifically what she herself has originated while in office?

Also I am concerned that she received 90% of her campaign funds from out of state. Is that correct? Please correct me if I am wrong.

I like Mia Love, I know she is a good woman, but she needs to get behind Trump, the GOP has to support him.
If not the Democrats will win back the Congress and the White House. This is serious stuff, the Constitution of this country is at stake. The Socialist are going to win this battle, does she not know that the Illegals are voting. It’s more than a Trade War.

We have a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Do we have a North Atlantic TRADE Organization? If not, it may be time to consider one.

The combined economic power of NATO nations might be enough to make China (and Russia?) sit up and take notice. 🤔

    Just asking.

Mia Love is about the closest thing to a democrat that the demos. are ever going to get.

She should just embrace the fact that she really is a democrat.

Trade wars are complicated. Armchair economists here need to drop their hatred of Trump, and try to learn how much the U.S. has been taken advantage of for the last 50 yrs. by virtually every nation we do business with.

  • NEAD SLC, UT
    Aug. 9, 2018 9:28 a.m.

I'm guessing that none of those complaining about Love's comments could explain why trade deficits are bad. Donald Trump certainly can't, given that his years of corporate experience seem to have left him with an understanding of the global economy that was common during 18th century, but has pretty much been abandoned since then.

I'm not a Mia Love supporter, but she's right about this. Don't know what she'll do, but tariffs are bad, and they're not going to make China a better actor in the world economy.

  • Esquire Springville, UT
    Aug. 9, 2018 9:00 a.m.

Mia may question the tariffs and the lack of a strategy from Trump, but I'm not convinced that she will deviate from the Trump line when push comes to shove, when it's time to hold hearings or time to cast a vote against whatever Trump wants. I still think she's in the bag for Trump. Prove me wrong, Mia.

  • Herbert Gravy Salinas, CA
    Aug. 9, 2018 8:45 a.m.

I hope when Ms. Love returns from her trip to China that she will be able to tell us EXACTLY how large our trade deficit with that country should be?

What information will she be able to obtain? From WHOM will she be getting the information?

Merely another example of wasting taxpayer dollars.

Just curious if the Pro-Trumpers against Mia think that Ben McAdams will be a better support of the Trump agenda?

I'm amazed Mia is questioning anything this president does. She seems to be a very astute politician, throwing in a pretend punch at Trump once in a while so she doesn't appear like a Trump robot. I don't buy it.

  • JaneB Wilsonville, OR
    Aug. 9, 2018 8:29 a.m.

Tariffs are taxes. Tariffs are taxes. Tariffs are taxes. What about this is so hard to understand?

Businesses all across America are now having to deal with an entirely unnecessary burden. Trump said, don't worry, trade wars are easy to win. This flies in the face of economic and global reality.

Farmers are losing markets they may never gain back, and becoming welfare recipients. They don't want this. They need to be set free to provide food for the world.

I don't know what Mia Love has done for Utah, but she is absolutely right here.

Americans have complained for years about jobs going overseas and trade imbalances. Trump isn't the first person to talk about this, but he's the first to try to fix the problem.

Mia, it's best you sit back and comment on things you know something about.

  • Thid Barker Victor, ID

Mia lacks wisdom and experience in trade deficits! Using our $500 billion/year trade deficit, China has gone from a bankrupted nation that could not feed itself to our largest competitor, our greatest technology stealer and job destroyer. Time to build America's economy, not China's! President Trump is right about tariffs on China! America can not, must not be the world's piggy bank any longer!

Well Mia, his tactics already have an agreement with the EU in place with details to be worked out, and talks ongoing with Canada and Mexico to redo the trade situation there. Other than China everybody else is agreeing to sit down and work out real fair trade agreements. And China needs our market far more than we need them.

  • cmsense Kaysville, UT
    Aug. 9, 2018 6:05 a.m.

Personally, I think it is refreshing that Love is questioning Mr. Trumps China tariff policies as well as his other tariffs. The tariffs will be a huge tax on American consumers. Already washing machines and dryers have gone up in price $100-200 per machine. At first American makers were cheering, then they found the steel and aluminum tariffs upped their cost when the price of the metals they used rose and so their own products rose similar amounts. Their sales instead of increasing, went down as well. It became a tax on everybody. Now Trump is expanding this grand scheme to thousands of products. It may not end well for the American economy, American consumers and international relations. A focused approach, maybe, but when Trumps only response is to escalate trade wars and tariffs and then to say to just trust him. It is also not enough for me.

  • Gregory American Fork, UT

It is very unclear to me what a trip to China will actually accomplish. At least President Trump is trying to do something rather than simply doing nothing and kicking the horrible trade imbalance down the road to the next administration. For our children's and grand-children's sake let's get behind the President. Yes, we'll suffer in the short term. Hopefully, we'll come out ahead in the long term.

Mia prefers the Bush Obama policy allowing China to crush US tax payers with gigantic taxes on exported goods while allowing China to sell to US markets virtually tax free. Trump works for fair trade with China and Mia says no. I think we are seeing that Mia Love is turning out to be a classic RINO sadly. Mia is a status quo establishment disappointment. The truth is if China is allowed to continue this grossly imbalanced trade practice the US has zero chance of competing. China will crush us. Trump is the only president to stand up for US tax payers.

  • poyman Lincoln City, OR
    Aug. 8, 2018 11:38 p.m.

Mia's position aligns with the anti-Trumpers who oppose all things "Trump".

We have a very large Trade Deficit with China. The reason for that deficit is because China has been cheating. They have artificially been able to lower their price of goods because they have manipulated their currency (making it lower than it should be against the dollar) and because they have been sticking it to their labor forces, and because they have subsidized discounts of their producers. All the while, they have been increasing prices on American Goods that their people consume making it less desirable for their people to buy our products.

Those are unfair trade practices that have caused us to consume competing Chinese Products instead of our own. This has caused plant closures and job loss in America. When people lose their jobs Public Assistance Programs kick in which has a direct impact on American Taxpayers.

It's interesting to note that China has over 4 x the population of the U.S. and yet they consume far less American Goods than Americans consumption of Chinese goods. Thus the huge Trade Deficit.

We finally have a President who's confronting this wrong and Mia needs to support him .
