A number of commenters here don't seem to appreciate the gravity of addiction. It involves a modification of the wiring of the brain, and, in fact, eliminates a person's free will in the right (or wrong) circumstances. The doctor made two mistakes: getting involved with pornography in the first place, and then not getting help.

"What I'm trying to do is go through a repentance process for myself," Ward added. "I€™ve held onto my religion."

At least this judge didn't fall for a typical statement from criminals that got caught. Thank you Judge.

He pleads "not guilty" while claiming pornography made him do what he just said he didn't do.

Disappointing that the Dr. didn't just own up to the guilty plea. I guess he is hopefully a jury will be nicer too him and will let him out sooner than age 93. I can see why he did it...but that poor girls family. Selfish on his part.

In regards to pornography. It leaves a wake of broken families, marital strife, lies, lost jobs, etc...Stay away folks! Not worth it as i have seen it firsthand in my family. Very sad. I pray for the dr. and his victim and her family.

Man up Dr. and take responsibility for your actions. You owe that to that young woman and the taxpayers. Haven't you already caused enough pain, trauma, and heartache? If you make her go through a trial there isn't anyone that should have any respect for you. The good you may have done will not outweigh the bad.

I agree with Judge Kay. The Davis County Attorney's Office is led by a poor attorney. He is too involved in the interworking's of all the other county elected official's offices, and can't manage his own job.

Giving this guy a concurrent sentence, means that he will pay nothing for his State Crimes. What criminal wouldn't be begging for that kind of penalty?

It would be nice if a competent attorney could take the pay cut, and run against Troy Rawlings. That office needs real change.

I imagine the doctor has practiced blaming his depravity on something other than himself.

He led himself down the path.

Don't let me sound like I am defending pornography but the sad fact is that millions of men and women view it weekly. Only a small number go on to violate and expose 13 year old children. Your character weaknesses belong to you, Dr. I wish you the best in the repentance process, but pornography did not make you do anything.

Doctor - your MIND led you down that slippery slope. You CHOSE to think about porn, you CHOSE to watch it, you CHOSE to involve yourself in criminal activities.

Just as the rest of us do every day in our attempts to choose right and wrong, you should more closely evaluate your actions and place the blame squarely where it lies - on your uncontrolled thought process. Blaming "porn" for your current circumstances misses the mark.

Is the doctor hoping his sentence will be lighter if he goes to trial on these charges? Seems like quite the gamble to me.
