My 3 yr old and i sat and watched everyday with my mom this fire take home after
home after home. Destroying not just 1 home but a whole town. Seeing the flames
engulfing each area was heartbreaking. This town is one of the BEST PLACES TO
LIVE. they r an amazing community. with the help of so many ppl her home was
one of the few lucky ones. The person who did this is known. He has seen a judge
and his sentence was handed down. Idk how we all feel about it but its not that
important right now. Right now @ 60% contained we need to keep others in mind
and hope they do not suffer what most have. Thank you to everyone who has gave a
helping hand in any way. It is appreciated more than you will ever know.
Yesterday my husband drove over La Veta Pass in CO. He saw that everything was
scorched between it and Old La Veta Pass. We have friends who own a cabin right
in the area he was seeing burned. However, we received word later that their
home escaped. Many other owners lost homes in the fire that has burned 107,000
acres in Costilla and Huerfano Counties. A friend of my cousin lost her only
home, and virtually everything in it because of a miscommunication that
didn't alert her she could have had a time window to save valuables. It is so sad, but in the fire to which I refer, it was waiting to happen
because of so much firewood on ground in a year of extreme dryness. I asked
relatives to what entity would donations be best used. I hope we will all try to
help in some way.
A terrible loss for everybody. I hope they find the perpetrators who caused the
fire and hold them responsible.
I know a lot of the cabin owners in the area and my heart and prayers goes out
to those who lost everything in this fire.
