There's such (over) sensitivity. If someone said something like that about me, I'd say 'whatever' or nothing and not worry about it.

And no--racism doesn't sell in this country; it's quite the opposite actually.

Congratulations; you came up with ONE name (besides Rosanne) of a leftist that was fired for her grotesque comments (who now claims to be the victim). I quit counting at 39 who didn't get fired. (Kevin Spacey was fired for behavior, not words - Harvey Milk had his Kevin Spacey type behavior glossed over for left wing political reasons - but that is entirely another story)

""However ABC demeans its own credibility for not also firing Jimmy Kimmel over equally or greater egregious sins" Please expound on that comment"

Like Rosanne, Kimmel is on ABC- he mocked Melania Trump's accent and implied a derogatory gay relationship between Trump and Sean Hannity. Racist and homophobic. ABC also has religion bashing Joy Behar.
ABC is owned by Disney who also owns ESPN who employs race baiting Kieth Olberman and Jemele Hill.
Bob Iger is head of Disney, who considered a Democratic run for president - if he is truly concerned about Rosanne's racism - then why is Iger virtue signaling regarding Rosanne (a left wing, green party candidate, Trump supporter) and not Kimmel, Olberman, Hill or Behar who otherwise support Iger's causes

    @Counter Intelligence..

Kathy Griffin was fired for her display.

If an actor, on a TV Show or Movie about to be released, did the same - they would be likely fired. Like Kevin Spacey, for example. What is that list you came up with?

ESPN (owned by ABC) has several announcers that are stridently anti-white. They get second, third, fourth, and fifth chances. Why does Rosanne only get one?

Haven't seen the show, but it had really good ratings. I can see someone snapping it up as a bargain, then making mint on it.

Roseanne is just as classy as Donald! And of course, they are both PROUD of their disgusting behavior.

It's a new world, and the GOP is a whole new party, isn't it?

The lack of morality and the lack of true Christian virtues has become a hall mark of Donald Trump and his party.

It would be simple (if you were telling the truth) to post quotes which you think support your statement. But you still cant back up your claim so you deflect...again.

I am not surprised. Your opinions are tainted by your commitment to party politics and you will continue to use cognitive dissonance to keep it that way.

And to compare "NFL players not standing for the National Anthem" to horribly racist tweets is pathetic.

Where does this "Comment included personal attacks, name-calling, epithets, racial slurs or other derogatory statements."?

I feel like a broken record. This is NOT a free speech issue, folks. A private corporation has every right to fire or discipline an employee or contractor that engages in words or behavior they believe doesn't represent their brand in a positive light. The law protects you from government reciprocity, no more, no less.

The ridiculousness here is that ABC would be so obtuse in believing they could bring back someone like Roseann and have her magically behave and speak kind words. That is just hysterical. ABC is right to let her go, but they were extremely naive...or maybe hopelessly optimistic that Barr wouldn't go right back to her antics.

Finally, it's really hard to believe that there are commentators here that are actually trying to defend the filth she tweeted. She has every right to say/tweet it, and we (and ABC) has every right to abhor and distance ourselves from it. Even Barr apologized and realized it was in poor taste, yet there are still people defending it...hard to believe.

What Rosanne said was really bad, but it isn't the worst thing I have heard on ABC. Nope all you have to do, to out do that comment, is listen to Joy Behar on THE VIEW. ABC is a hypocrite for not firing her and yet firing Rosanne . Joy has made some AWFUL comments but because so many of them are against the President or a Republican, they allow her to carry on and stay on air. This is a disgrace as well. I think they should put Rosanne back on air until they fire Joy and then I might not disagree with what they did. I can't stand Valerie Jarret she did a lot of bad things behind the scenes in my opinion. The most despicable thing about firing Rosanne is that ABC leaves Joy Behar on the air and she has spewed out some very ugly comments about the President and many others. She has freedom to make any remark but Rosanne who made one and then apologized just like Joy does got fired. It is all a hypocrisy game and ABC is the main offender as I see it.

    Poor Rosanne.

She was under the mistaken impression that she could engage in blatantly racist and anti-Muslim slurs and that Americans would generally be fine with it.

In fact, she may have reasonably presumed that she would be rewarded for saying this stuff. As in more social media followers, bigger crowds coming to see her speak, and volunteers and donors who want to help her to win an elected office, such as the Presidency.

Rosanne has every right to be confused as to why things changed back so suddenly. Is Trump okay? Do his supporters know?

There are some people of all races, cultures, and groups that pride themselves on being offensive, vulgar, and racist. Hollywood and the entertainment industry are but one example. Rosanne is paying a price for hers. But, look at the musicians that are never called on it and continue to make millions from doing this. Here is a list of the worst. :
    1. Lil Wayne
    2. Snoop Dogg
    3. Jay Z
    4. 2Pac
    5. DMX
    6. Eminem
    7. Rick Ross
    8. Busta Rhymes
    9. 50 Cent
    10. Ice Cube
There are politicians who do the same thing and get away with it. They are still in office. One leads our country.

We should hold ALL people responsible for this kind of behavior. Our society certainly needs less of it, not more. We need to get out of the race to the bottom and shift people to a race to the top of good and respectful behavior.

looks better today then in 1990s+
    beautiful smooth skin
lovely hair, color looks natural to me

    but she was always offensive
no matter what she did or said
    it was off the wall

Unfortunately there are no tools here to use underline, bold or italics, as well as limited use of punctuation. You missed my point. You are correct that in this instance, and most instances like this, no one is being jailed, fined or muzzled by the government. But media is powerful -- it fills our homes and lives; it is our window to the world and influences generations. Especially, increasingly now -- where the obscure and unvetted is presented as normal and an accurate portrayal which becomes a self-fulfilling new reality. And thus educated, we slide down a slippery slope where those raised in this climate come to think that government should do something about things people say.

And so almost daily talking heads and bloggists decry what someone said, blowing it out of proportion, encouraging public outcry... in this case the insensitive remarks of one person (known for such things) who should be ignored and dismissed*, causes the unemployment of an entire cast, production crew and sponsors.

*Versus being quoted in this story. Most who watch the show (I don't) would otherwise be unaware of her comment.

What is abhorrent is the hypocrisy of ABC! How many off-color and insulting jokes do they televise by late night comedians on regular basis? Answer - a lot.

What about the raunchy and pornographic type dialogues and offensive images they portray all the time on ABC TV dramas?

Where is the hue and cry over all of this other tasteless and offensive material?

This is just more political correctness posturing as ABC and their other liberal media cohorts continue to pander to an amoral society at the expense of our first amendment rights! And no, I don't condone racist comments by Roseanne or anyone else.

When ABC and the other mainstream media outlets start showing some "moral correctness" initiatives in what they televise, then they can start being the free speech police out there.

Exactly what does freedom of speech mean? Although, based on the social studies, civics and Amercian History courses taken in elementary, secondary and collegiate years pointing to its primary purpose as being such, clearly it doesn't cover speech that isn't politically correct.

Beware, because here we are amidst the slippery sliding slope of losing yet another Constitutional right as we grow increasingly intolerant of the expressed opinions and commentary of others; or more specifically, their right to do so without retribution.

Giving the fact that roseanne is a comedian she has been known to say very controversial things in the past she has said far worse than this, dispicable yes, should we be surprised, no.

Although I personally do not condone racist coomments like hers but one must consider who the target of those comments are, and possibly a motive for those comments.

Valerie Jarret background comes from ties to the muslim brotherhood, the same muslim brotherhood that has been linked to the arab spring in the middle east during oblama's tenure as potus, the same arab spring that spawned the destabilization of the middle east who have ties to terror organizations.

Valerie Jarret' father was a member of the MB, and valerie was oblama's top advisor, it also must be made known that oblama had leaders of the MB as frequent guest's at the whitehouse.

Also one should consider that our allies france, england even saudi arabia consider the MB a terrorist organization, england has banned them from their country....hmmm

@pragmatistferlife: "Calling a liar, a liar, a cheater, a cheater and a bigot, a bigot is not abhorrent."

If the liar, cheat, or bigot happens to be liberal it is proclaimed abhorrent by the left.

If the left leaning liar, cheat, or bigot, happens to be a woman, racial minority, or sexual minority, then any criticism or accurate assessment if their performance or character will be cast as a bigoted attack of some sort be it sexism, racism, or homophobia. If the target is not a liberal, then everything becomes fair game.

Notice how often and by how many people Justice Clarence Thomas has been called an "uncle Tom" with absolute impunity. In stark contrast, pointing out a liberal's connection to the Muslim Brotherhood is verboten. Criticizng the Muslim Brotherhood actually is will not be permitted at all.

The same people who talked about what one expects when dragging a $100 bill through a trailer park while Bill Clinton was governor and then President, now hammer Trump over 10 year old locker room talk before he ever ran for office.

To deny the double standard is to support, embrace, and condone the double standard.

"Right wingers don't get that Freedom of Speech, is not free from consequences." Your bias is showing. First of all, your characterization of Roseann as a conservative is hysterical and woefully inaccurate (being a Trumpite doesn't make you conservative). Second of all, this isn't a "winger" problem, this is an uneducated, both-sides-of-the-aisle problem. See, "left wingers" don't understand that you can't block speakers on government subsidized campuses because you don't agree with them or deem their ideas "hate speech" based on the biased opinions of the gossip column.

I guess you could call me a "middle-winger"...I'm not foolish enough to pander to either the right or the left. But I do wish people on both sides of the aisle would use truth and logic instead of slinging biased remarks at each other based on the initial behind their name.

"And, to the commentators that think this is due to her conservative politics, you're wrong."

I agree. This isn't due to her "conservative politics." However, it's because she's not conservative. She ran for the Green Party presidential nomination. She was involved with left wing political parties. She was involved in Occupy Wall Street. She voted for Pres. Obama. She's spent a life supporting progressive policies. She is a (non-traditional) liberal celebrity.

She also voted for Pres. Trump but that wasn't because she somehow became conservative. Pres. Trump is not a conservative and doesn't represent conservative values. He does some things that pander to conservatives but that's another discussion.

I only hope that the appropriate response by ABC to cancel the show is similarly applied to other celebrities who make offensive statements about race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, politics (liberal or conservative), or just about any other categorization. Hopefully people will learn to be more civil.
